FUCK THE FACTS
A while ago we did another interview with Fuck The Facts for all of you with strong memory and it was about the release of "Discoing The Dead", but now the guys belong to a new label and offer us a brand new cd under the title "Backstabber Etiquette", so I think we should leave some more space to them to introduce their latest creation.

1.HELLO FIRST OF ALL TELL ME WHAT OCCURRED TO FUCK THE FACTS FROM THE RELEASE OF YOUR FIRST FULL LENGTH ALBUM TILL NOW. PRESENT US THE CURRENT LINE UP.
Hi Nick. Well a lot of stuff has happened in the past 3 years or so. When it all started it was just me, and then in 2000 i started getting other people in the band, since then we've been recording and touring like a dog chasing it's own tail. The current line-up is, Mel Mongeon, Matt Connell, and myself.
2.WHY HAVE YOU PARTED WAYS WITH YOUR SINGER BRENT? WAS HE TIRED OR DIDN'T YOU AGREE HOW FUCK THE FACTS SHOULD SOUND? WHO REPLACED HIM? HOW DID YOU SELECT THE NEW GUY AND WHERE WAS HE SINGING BEFORE? ARE YOUR RELATIONS WITH BRENT STILL FRIENDLY?
Brent was just sick of touring and having to dedicate so much time to the band. We got Mel to replace him, but this is over a year ago now. Mel has been our singer longer then Brent ever was. We were friends with Mel for a while before she joined, and i knew that's who i wanted to sing in the band. She has a completely different voice from Brent, but i find it suits our music perfectly. Mel used to be in a band called Disjonction. Brent is still one of my oldest and closest friends, we parted ways on very good terms since it's basically what everyone wanted.
3. WHY DID YOU NAME THE NEW ALBUM "BACKSTABBER ETIQUETTE"? WHICH ARE THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN YOUR NEW ALBUM AND "DISCOING THE DEAD"?
We called it "Backstabber Etiquette", because it's a title we could all agree on. I wanted to call it "Backstabber Matchmaker", and then we toyed with calling it "Living A Lie", and then over a nice big breakfest we decided on "Backstabber Etiquette", it might have had something to do with how i was using my fork, i don't remember. "Discoing The Dead" was the last recording i did all by myself, so it sounds very different from "Backstabber..", which is the full band. One similarity is that the song "The Burning Side" was recorded for both.
4.AS A BAND, BEFORE SINGING TO GRIND IT! GREAT WHITE NORTH, YOU HAVE ALSO RELEASED MANY TRACKS THROUGH OTHER LABELS. DO YOU CONSIDER TO RELEASING AN ALBUM THAT WILL CONTAIN ALL YOUR RARE SONGS?
Ya, one day i'll probably move to Gaspe for a year and just re-mix all the old FTF stuff. I have a pile of old reels sitting in my bathroom closet. I just don't have the time to do it now, and i rather focus my energy on writing new music. But to answer your question, yes, one day there will be something of that nature.
5.I NOTICED ON YOUR NEW ALBUM A MOOD OF EXPERIMENTATION WITH YOUR SOUND. AM I RIGHT? HOW EASY OR DIFFICULT IS IT FOR YOU TO FIND NEW WAYS OF PLAYING GRIND METAL? DID YOU MANAGE TO TAKE YOUR MUSIC A STEP FORWARD BY A LOT OF THOUGH AND EFFORTS OR WAS IT SOMETHING NATURAL?
It's all very natural for me. It would be un-natural to try and write only grindcore songs. Don't get me wrong, some bands can write only straight up grindcore albums and they sound great, cause that's what they have in them. When i'm working on music i'm not thinking "ok, gotta do something weird and then some blast beats and then a jazz break", i just do what comes naturally, and works best for the song. I don't try and write "grind metal" songs or "experimental" songs, i just let whatever happens happen. We're always trying to get better and write better songs, but we try and make the natural progression.
6.WHICH THEMES DO YOU HURT THROUGH YOUR LYRICS ON YOUR NEW ALBUM?
The lyrics cover a lot of different ideas, but it's all pretty everyday life stuff with a humours or dark twist to it. I'm not really the best guy to ask this, I wrote the lyrics for "Ballet Addict", which was Matt's idea of a guy with a secret obsession with ballet, i also did part of "23-17-4", which is basically about getting old, and "Smokin a Fatty" which is about killing this fat sound guy we hate. All the other lyrics on the album were written by Mel or Matt, but now Mel does them all.
7.YOU HAVE ONLY PLAYED LIVE IN CANADA TILL NOW. IS IT POSSIBLE NOW THAT YOU SIGNED TO GRIND IT!/GWN TO PLAY SOME GIGS OUTSIDE YOUR COUNTRY'S BORDERS? WHICH GIG DO YOU REMEMBER THE MOST AND WHY?
In August we will be going to the US for a month long tour. Hopefully Europe and South America will be in the near future. We've had so many fun shows, i can't remeber which was my favorite. I'll say Rimouski, cause Rimouski's the shit yo!
8.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE A PAINTING WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
It would show a guy laying in grass that he just cut and he's wearing a tootbrush as pants that are the colour of wax paper, and the sun is eating a sandwich.
9.WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD DO IN A WORLD WITHOUT ANY MUSIC? HOW WOULD YOU PIPE YOUR CREATIVITY IN THAT CASE?
I've actually been looking for another hobby, i find being involved in music all the time to be stressfull. I wish i could paint or draw well, cause that looks like killer fun. I like going to art galleries, but i've never seriously tried to paint. My mom is a good painter, she did the cover of "Backstabber Etiquette".
10.LET ME PLAY DEVIL'S ADVOCATE.MANY SAY THAT GRIND IS NOTHING MORE THAN BLASTBEATS, EXTREME AND AGGRESSIVE MUSIC AND ALMOST ALL THE BANDS SOUND THE SAME. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO ANSWER TO SUCH A CLAIM?
I'd say they're right, and we're all entitled to our own opinion. I belive grindcore now is the death metal of the early '90's, it's a big fat trend.
11.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE UNAWARE OF YOUR MUSIC IN ORDER TO INTRIGUE HIS INTEREST?
    Oo-ga-boo-ga.
12.WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO HAVE?
When good grind bands do bad things.
13.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
