HELLSONICS
Hellsonics is a Belgium based band, whose members have a long history in the metal scene. Killie D.(a.k.a. Ingrid) is a person that has offered a lot to this music, successfully hosting for over a decade a metal show... Now, she's put everything aside and has decided to focus and concentrate on Hellsonics. Let's see what she has answered us...

1.HEY KILLIE (INGRID!) YOU HAVE BEEN IN THE MUSIC SCENE WITH YOUR PARTNER BRAIN DETZER (DAVID!) FOR YEARS AND YEARS. TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT THIS, ANTWERP SEEMS TO BE A HIVE OF ACITVITY FOR MUSIC AND BANDS. UNLIKE THE UK, YOU BELGIANS REALLY DO LOVE YOUR MUSIC. I THINK I’M IN THE WRONG FUCKIN’ COUNTRY!
Does anyone really care, buddy? With all respect, just kiddin’, thanx for sending me these questions Scruff! You’re right without the past (Vais, Kin Without the Blood and Reach you All) Hellsonics wouldn’t be the band has it is today. We all learned from the past and the one thing that makes us going on is the true passion for music, having fun and trying to make songs we like…(not too complicated and straight in your face)…rather than being a popular (read commercial) band. The four of us (Brain on guitar, Johny Crash on slapbass and Mean Krapula on drums) came together somewhere May 2002. JC and Mean played together in a metalcore band called Reach You All (JC was the singer back then).(Nice to know is that they know each other wayback since childhood). Brain and I are a couple and we formed Kin Without the Blood a metal formation with influences of a “Kornish” kinda music style, after Vais split up (my very first band 1989-1995, hardcore/metal related). Being a woman, I’ve been pretty much a loner as a singer in a heavy band here in Belgium, even now most women in bands play bass or doing sexy danxe… I have a story about this band I used to rehearse with for a couple of times, they threw me out cause they didn’t want a woman to be the face of the band, cause women are not good in the “market”. At that time my voice sounded very rough and aggressive. Now these days I’m not afraid to use my feminine side. It’s an even better and interesting combination with heavy music I think. The combination of four different musical interests is giving Hellsonics that special flavor today. Mean is still a diehard metal fan, JC is our Psycho lover, Brain kicks ass with his tight Punky style guitar play (with metal sound) and I love (amongst the heavy sht) cronners like Frank Sinatra…(I know – it’s one of my sins). Blend this together you know what Hellsonics stands for!
2.KILLIE BABY HONEY BABY SWEETIE-PIE, PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR RADIO-SHOW “SHOCK REPORT”. YOU WERE DOING IT A LONG TIME AND YOU HAVE DONE SO MUCH FOR MUSIC AND BANDS IN THE WAY OF FREE PROMOTION OVER THE YEARS. YOU’RE LIKE A FEMALE JOHN PEEL!!! (INCIDENTALLY AT TIME OF WRITING, THE WORLD HAD A SAD LOSS RECENTLY – A LEGEND FELL. JOHN PEEL R.I.P.).
Shock Report, a big part of my life indeed, for over 10 years I hosted this metal show, made the playlists and did the interviews with hundreds of interesting metal/hardcore bands from around the world. (The final interview of the show I recall was with Max Cavalera). Brain was the technician and mixed it all nice together…is there anything we do without one another? Well, going to take a piss and Brain working on his 71 Buick Riviera (the other bitch in his life, hahaha). I’m very grateful to have met such talented people, some of the artists are still my friends these days. This is the way I met you Scruff back in 1990 with Hellbastard, when you where touring Europe with Carcass, so… I really had to stop the show due to lack of time. I felt it was the right time to explore new musical styles, open up to new scenes and so I discovered the world of Psycho, Rockabilly, Surf…that was the point we fell in love with the Upright bass…
3.YOUR FIRST DEMO IS VERY PROFESSIONAL!!! A PRO-PRINTED CD AND A COOL LAYOUT. SOUND IS REALLY COOL TOO!!!
Thanx Scruff. It’s all DIY – Brain did the artwork with a little help from JC. It’s a low budget production, but it sounds really well. We recorded it in a small studio of the guitar player of a street/Oi band called The Agitators. One day recording, next day vocals and backing vocals and later the final mix. 3 days tops. It’s a good introduction for Hellsonics. We only sell it in venues we play at for 6 Euros. The reactions are very good. We haven’t been label hunting yet. Our first priority is to become a good live band and make some more songs. Honestly I’m fed up with record labels, false promises etc.
4.WHAT’S THE MOST MEMORABLE SHOW HELLSONICS HAVE PLAYED SO FAR?
Every show has been memorable to us! Really, we enjoy every minute on stage. Been playing on diverse locations (Biker meetings, fests, bars) every time you meet new people and new vibes; we love it.
5.WHAT’S THE CURRENT ROCK ‘N’ ROLL PLAYLIST OF YOU GUYS?
Tough question! Let’s say for every mood is a fine tune. The four of us are true music lovers. To drop a few names: Pro-Pain, Deftones, Tiger Army, 16 Horsepower, Hillbilly Music, Discharge, Speedrock, Mexican Mariachi…orale! The cd that you hear frequently in our place these days is the new Danzig, I’m not sure yet if I like it, some songs are cool, when Prong’s Tommy Victor plays the guitar I give it a shot…
6.WHAT, IN YOUR EYES, MAKES A GOOD HUMAN BEING?
I admire great talents, people who make the difference! Basically it’s a way to get immortality. Being remembered by several generations and touching other human beings with your talent or message. Maybe that’s the secret that keeps us going? If I need to pick one person I would choose Billy Holliday, no, not his life – but his talent to put words on music like they come straight from his soul… yummie.
7.IN ANTWERP YOU HAVE COOL MUSIC VENUES!!! EVERY TIME I COME TO ANTWERP I LOVE IT! IT’S LIKE A CULTURE SHOCK FOR ME!
That’s true, a lot going on. Here in our hometown Antwerp we have one big venue (butshell compared to the states, cap 1000). (Fear Factory, Biohazard, Pring and so many more have been on stage there). A great (small) club outside the city is called Lintfabriek (cap 400). Every weekend you can watch international bands. Lintfabriek (Ribbon Factory) is the place to discover new upcoming bands. We’ve played there 3 times now this last year! A loud bar is t’Hemeltje (or Little Heaven) in the centre of town. Stagediving from the small bar has become a local habbit!
8.SENT ANY LABELS YOUR MUSIC YET – LOOKING FOR A RECORD DEAL?
    Not yet…
9.HOW DOES ANYONE GET YOUR CD?
As I mentioned before we only sell our cds at our shows, I think it’s a good way to start with your local fans and try to build a firm base, I guess I’m only interested in a distribution deal for foreign selling. However, we love to share our music with anyone, people mail us from allover thanks to our website where you can download one song for free. The web is a fantastic instrument… we can’t thank people enough who already took the time to discover Hellsonics from tiny Belgium… You can reach us through: [email protected].
10.ANY LAST WORDS?? IT WAS A PLEASURE TALKING TO YOU AGAIN INGRID MY FRIEND.
If you made it to this point, muchas gracias! Check out our website for some more newz http://www.hellsonics.tk. Get mental on the music you like and not you’re supposed to like! Oh yeah! Sign our guestbook!!! We love to know who you are! Killie D.
