ENCHANTMENT
Her
Enchantment could have been the pioneers of heavy metal if only they were
born some decades earlier and start the band just before the roots of this
music were established by those bands (I don't think I have to mention
names - we all pretty much know them). Anyway, tthis was a joke and I guess
I should get serious, cause these guys here are serious with what they
do. So, read the views of the new her enchantment as they "call" themselves
since quite many changes (not only in the line up but musical as well)
have occured through the years.
1.WHICH ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS
OF THE BAND'S HISTORY UP TO DATE? WHICH IS THE CURRENT LINE UP?
The most important moments must
have been the release of our debutalbum "Sagas" which scored 81 points
out of 100 in the biggest metalmagazine in Holland, "Aardschok". And finally
getting a good line up in the band, since the release of "Sagas" we had
three changes in the line up, we had a new female vocalist: Marije, a new
guitarist: Teun and a new vocalist: Richard. So the new line up is: Richard
(vocals), Marije (female vocals), Dave (guitar), Teun (guitar), John (bassguitar)
and Elwin (drums).
2.YOU'VE CHANGED YOUR NAME FROM CRUCIFIED
CORPSE INTO HER ENCHANTMENT - WHICH I FIND IT TO BE A BETTER NAME. WHY
DID YOU DO THAT? HOW DID YOU SELECT THIS MONICKER AND IS THERE SOMETHING
YOU WANT TO SAY WITH IT? DOES IT HAVE A SPECIAL MEANING?
We changed it because Crucified
Corpse was more a name for our old style, we used to play Brutal Death
Metal, but over the years the style changed to what it is now, so we decided
to change it to Her Enchantment. We changed it when we were recording the
"Sagas" CD we sat around a table and we discussed if we needed to change
our name. Our former vocalist and Dave came up with the name. It's all
about Mother Nature.
3.GIVE US A DESCRIPTION OF YOUR MUSIC.
NAME SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED BANDS AND ALBUMS.
We don't really have a description
of our music, some people say that we play Melodic Doom Death Black
Heavy Metal, I just call it Melodic Metal. We all like different kinds
of metal/rock and we mix that into a song. The bands we like are Marillion,
Anathema, Dreamtheater, At the Gates, Cradle of Filth, Arena, The Year
of our Lord, Sentenced, Emperor and so on. We just like all kinds of metal.
4.HOW MANY RELEASES DO YOU HAVE THIS
FAR? TELL US A FEW THINGS REGARDING YOUR LATEST RELEASE "SAGAS". ARE YOU
STILL SATISFIED WITH IT OR IS THERE ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO CHANGE?
We have released 2 Promo's "Reflections
from the otherside" 1994 and "Servile to the Serene" 1995 (under the name
Crucified Corpse), the CD "Sagas" and three compilation CD's "Sometimes
death is better" 1995, "Icons" 2000 and "A tribute to Hammerhawk" 2002.
We're still satisfied with "Sagas", sure. Our style changed because of
the new line up it's more mature now, but we still enjoy our debutalbum.
5.WHAT ARE YOUR LYRICS TALKING ABOUT?
DO YOU LIKE REAL LIFE OR FANTASY THEMES?
The lyrics we're mostly written
by or former vocalist, he took things out of real life and wrote it in
a fantasy style.The new lyrics will be a mixture of reallife, fantasy and
the darkside of the human mind.
6.YOU HAD QUITE MANY LINE UP CHANGES.
WHY? HAVE THESE CHANGES AFFECTED THE BAND AND ITS AIM?
The first line up change was in
the second year, we changed guitarst Nick with Dave, Nick wasn't really
what we were looking for, the second change was when Richard decided to
just sing and not play guitar anymore Jasper joined to play guitar. The
third was when Marije left, it became to busy for her, but after a year
or two she replaced her "stand in" Nienke who now sings in "Autumn". The
fourth one was when Jasper joined "Autumn" he was replaced by Teun, who
also plays in "Mortal Form". And the final, and I realy hop this is the
last change, was when vocalist Richard H. stopped and was replaced by Richard
N, who used to sing in "We, the Gods". The changes really have affected
the band the style changed and it caused a big stop on our plans. The last
two changes were very close after eachother. So writing new songs came
to a hold and we were working on a new CD, but we're picking that up again
and finally things are going good now.
7.YOU HAVE TWO SINGERS. A MALE AND
A FEMALE. WHY? DO YOU THINK THAT THIS WAY YOU CAN EPXRESS THE FEELINGS
AND YOUR MUSIC IN GENERAL IN A BETTER MORE COMPLETE WAY?
I agree with that.of course it
isn’t quite new but I think were quite unique combining male/female vox
in Gothenborg,death/black metal.Lot’s of bands with male/female vocals
have keyboards as well and are going more in the direction of gothic metal.We
don’t have anything to do with gothic metal.
8.YOU'VE DONE SOME LIVE SHOWS WITH
FMAOUS BANDS. WHICH ONE DID YOU ENJOY THE MOST? WHICH BAND WAS MORE FRIENDLY
TOWARDS YOU? DO YOU REMEMBER ANY FUNNY OR WEIRD INCIDENTS WHILST YOU WHERE
PERFORMING LIVE?
I enjoyed playing with all of them,
but the best are still the ones with Hollands oldest Heavy Metalband Hammerhawk
At a gig we played with a Black Metalband and the drummer had a bald head
with corpsepaint which looked like a football so we started to ask if we
could use his head as a football and started to shout:"Who let the clowns
in?". I think you had to be there and had to be drunk. It was good fun.
9.ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK?
WHICH WAS THE BEST AND WHICH WAS THE WORST REVIEW YOU HAVE RECEIVED?
The best we had was for our debut
album "Sagas" 81 points out of 100. And the worst was for our first ever
demo they really crushed it.
10.WHICH DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST AND
WHICH IS THE WORST PART IN YOUR MUSIC? WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU NEED FURTHER
IMPROVEMENT?
Of course there are always things
that can be approved but we don’t have things that are worse in our music.The
best thing is the chemistry and the enthousiasm,you can hear it back in
our play.
11.IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE, WHERE
WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO AND WHY?
I think it must be just before
metal was created, just to be one of the pioneers of metal, hehehehehe.
I really don't know. I like this era.

CREATURE THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ASK HIM?
