HUMAN
REGRESSION
-
SO MANY
PEOPLE IN THE METAL SCENE CONSIDER THE THRASH METAL GENRE DEAD. HOW WRONG
THEY ARE, CAUSE IF YOU LOOK TO THE UNDERGROUND YOU WILL FIND SO MANY BANDS
THAT KEEP THE FLAME ALIVE. HUMAN REGRESSION REPRESENT THE TECHNICAL SIDE
OF THIS GENRE. THRASH ' EM ALL GUYS!!!
1.GIVE US A SHORT BAND BIO.
WHO ARE HUMAN REGRESSION? WHAT MADE YOU FOUND A BAND?
-
D’andrea Humans borned on genuary 2000
by Marco D'Andrea (guitar), that called after various auditions: Marco
Disalvia (batteria) Alessio Cormio (bass-guitar) Marzio Spinelli (vocals)
and Gabriele moriggi (guitar). Spinelli and I played with another band
that for various reasons we left; Di Salvia, Cormio and Moriggi,
studing in Accademy (such as me), had a musical know-how right for me,
'cause metal is not only violence or "noise", but technic and professionality
too. After 4 months the band recorded the single: “Conformity slaves” and
a mini album "Outrage upon silence" produced by Human Regression and Stonehenge
records (the first label that believe in Human’s music), distribuited in
Italy by White & Black. The product was good for many metal magazine
who enjoied it. Than a little tour (called "Outrage upon tour"to promote
the mini). Marzio Spinelli (vocals) has left the band for personal problem
so after many auditions, I become the human's singer, with a voice more
heavy (such as Cuck Billy, Max Cavalera) and less melodic as Marzio. The
band as soon as possible will be in recording studio for the new album,
with an amount of 8/9 songs and the single "Living Dead" will be our first
video-clip. Bang your heads, we're coming...
2.HOW DID YOU SELECT THIS BAND NAME?
AMONG WHICH OTHER NAMES? WHAT'S THE MEANING YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH THE
FANS?
-
D’andrea/Moriggi :We tried a lot of
names for the band, but no one explained the precision and at same time
the power of our music. So “Human Regression” means a position (musically
and personally) against the actual constricted human progress.
And it has also a nice sound...
3.WHICH ARE YOUR INFLUENCES? HOW WOULD
YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC? WHICH ANY BANDS YOU LIKE AND OTHERS YOU DISLIKE?
-
D’andrea/Moriggi :Slayer, Testament,
Meshuggah and Pantera above all. Our music is a mix of rage and technical,
noise and prog licks, violent “old school” trhash riffs and difficoult
compositions... Actually we’re listening Pro-Pain, Soilwork, Dimmu Borgir,
but we hate the new trendy scene of shits like Pod, Linkin Park & C.
4.YOU STUDY IN A MUSICAL ACCADEMY.
THIS MEANS THAT YOU HAVE A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR INSTRUMENTS. DOES THIS
MAKE YOU FALL INTO THE MISTAKE TO START SHOWING UP? I MEAN THAT SOMETIMES,
VIRTUOSOS FORGET MELODY. HOW DID YOU SELECT TO PLAY METAL, WHICH IS CONSIDERED
TO BE AN "EASY" MUSIC?
-
D’andrea/Moriggi :We think it’s very
important play with feeling but never forgetting the theory and harmony
we’re studing. Metal, more than other kind of music, is more direct and
instinctive: and if you play with precision it’s NOT “easy” (fast tempos,
running solos, change of rhytm...). On stage is better to play a cover
of Pantera than e Dream Theatre ones.
5.HOW DIFFICULT IS IT FOR VIRTUOSOS
TO BE TOGETHER UNITED IN A BAND? HOW EASY IS IT TO SHARE THE IDEAS AND
NOT TRY TO PUT YOUR INSTRUMENTS SOUND MORE THAN THE OTHER MEMBERS?
-
D’andrea/Moriggi :Every members of
Human can explain himself with solos or licks, but we always think to the
final work: the song must be HEAVY and nice to play and listen (for a musician
and not).
6.WHAT PROCEDURE DO YOU FOLLOW, WHILE
COMPOSING THE SONGS?
-
D’andrea/Moriggi :We start from a riff,
than playing it the song grows up with part of drum, bass or guitars. The
voice is usually the last one: the perfect end to add impact.
7.TELL US A FEW THINGS FOR YOUR RELEASES.
TELL US ABOUT THE MUSIC, THE RECORDINGS, THE PRODUCTION, ANY FUNNY-WEIRD
MOMENT YOU REMEMBER...
-
D’andrea :The mini-album was recorderd
in 5 days, the music was ready and there were not problems: now when we
listen the product we know than the mixing work is not ok, but at the end
we enjoy our first album. About the funny-weird moments I remember when
we were in hotel and a lot of jokes (with a lot of beer...) but no one
in particular.. I don't know why (!) but I can't remember...
8.WHAT ARE THE LYRICS TALKING ABOUT?
REAL LIFE STORIES OR FANTASY?
-
D’andrea/Moriggi :Our lyrics are real
life stories, but we try to describe them with “strange” situations. They
talks about/against theme like religion, money-farm society etc.
9.WHICH WILL YOUR FUTURE PLANS BE?
-
D’andrea/Moriggi :We’ll record a new
album on december than we’ll start a tour in Italy with 20 dates (Milan,
Venice, Rome etc.). We’re going to do a video clip from the single “Living
Dead” and put it on line.
10.HOW ARE YOU THINKING TO PROMOTE
YOUR MUSIC AND THE BAND IN GENERAL?
-
D’andrea :Internet is the best "promoter"
for the bands, and with our site we can give our music to more people of
different country. In Italy we prefer to play different shows in many place,
bringing the "power" of a concert directly to the listener. It's great
the energy on stage: I remember one night we made a "swing-style" of the
central part of Blackned, a famous song of Metallica... it was so nice
and original, the guys approved and enjoyed it.
11.THOUGH YOU ARE A YOUNG BAND, YOU
WILL BE DOING A VIDEO CLIP. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? WILL IT BE AN ORDINARY
LOW BUDGET VIDEOCLIP, SHOWING THE BAND MEMBERS JUST PLAYING OR ARE YOU
THINKING OF DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT?
-
D’andrea : For our first viedo clip
of "Living Dead" our budget is very low but the ideas whe have are
very cool, we're working on it with a producer who likes our music, and
this is important for us. In the video we'll play, shure, as a live performance
with maybe scenes of a story, but there will be no colours: all in b/w
and heavy, haavy, heavy!!!
12.WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WEREN'T
ABLE TO COMPOSE MUSIC?
-
D’andrea : I think a promoter or manager,
but I'm a guitarist and I'd like be a tournist too.
13.WHICH IS MAN'S BIGGEST TEMPTATION?
-
Moriggi : The money and the religion:
the first can change your life forgetting the other people, and the second
makes you feel good with yourself "resolving" your existencial questions.
"Blind and lost" as a Nailbomb song. We have the "Vaticano" in our country,
and this is the example of two temptations made together... what a dangerous
place!
14.MANY METAL MUSICIANS ACCUSE POP
STARS FOR THEIR LIFE STYLE, YET WE SEE SUCH BEHAVIOURS IN THE METAL SCENE
AS WELL (BANDS PAYING TO MAKE A COVER FOR SUCCESFUL MAGAZINES, HAVING A
GOOD REVIEW, METAL LABELS PROMOTING SPECIFIC BANDS AND GENRES EACH EPOCH,ETC).IS
IT MAYBE AFTER ALL TRUE THAT THE METAL INDUSTRY DOESN'T DIFFER FROM THE
POP? WHICH ARE YOUR
THOUGHTS ON THAT?
-
Moriggi : I think that there no more
difference from metal industry and pop's one. Simply the majors need money
and don't care the genres you play: pop is trendy? Ok, you play pop.
Nu-metal rules? Perfect, you play nu-metal etc. Look at Machine Head. I
love theire first album, Burn my eyes, but now I think and I'm shure about
this, that it was only a commercial strategy to take a position between
Pantera and Sepultura fans. They are a band built on trendy exactly like
a pop band, this is the truth, the sad truth.
15.WITH WHICH OTHER MUSIC DO YOU THINK
METAL CAN BE COMBINED PERFECTLY AND WITH WHICH DO YOU THINK HAS NOTHING
TO DO?
-
Moriggi : I think with all the generes
that give you "good vibrations" and strong groove. But some genere has
a wonderful groove but I don't like it combined with metal: jazz for example.
I love Mike Stern or Larry Charlton, but I can't listen their music united
with metal like many bands play. I think that when two kind of music are
so strong, communicative, intense and "power" they can't stay togheter,
it's a rule of emotions.
16.IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE, WHICH
HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY? WHAT WOULD YOU MISS
THE MOST FROM OUR TIME?
-
Moriggi : Not a period in particular.
Sometimes I would like to be in early 70's just to see with my eyes the
strong political atmosphere and the music of that period.
17.WHAT PROLOGUE AND TITLE WOULD YOU
LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO HAVE?
-
Moriggi : Oh, nice question... mm..
I'd like to read someting like "Human Regression: the technic and passion
sides of thrash". The prologue I don't know...
18.THANK YOU!HAVE I FORGOT TO ASK YOU
ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
-
D'Andrea/Moriggi : Nothing, thanks
for this original and particular interview with intelligent questions.
Stay thrash!!! Bye.
