INDIAN
FALL
-
FOR THE
MOST OF ROMANIA WAS A COUNTRY THAT WE KNEW CAUSE AS THE FATHERLAD OF COUNT
DRACULA. THE PLACE WERE THE HERO OF BRAM STOKER LIVED. NOW IT'S TIME TO
LEARN FEW THINGS MORE ABOUT THE HEAVY METAL SCENE THEY HAVE. INDIAN FALL
PLAY A MELODIC BLACK METAL WITH SOME GOTHIC ELEMENTS THAT FRIENDS OF THIS
GENRE WILL FIND VERY INTERESTING. SO ADRIAN NAGY, THE BASS PLAYER OF THE
BAND, HAPPILY HE PROVIDE US WITH INFORMATION ABOUT HIS BAND. SO HERE THEY
ARE..
-
hello, I am Adrian Nagy, the bass player
of Indian Fall
1.FIRST OF ALL POINT OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT
MOMENTS OF THE BAND'S HISTORY. WHICH IS THE CURRENT LINE UP?
-
We started in 1997, in Brasov, Romania
as a progressive metal band. During time we decided to make Indian Fall
the centre of our character. The most important moment was in 2001, when
we won the first prize to a festival. This brought us the colaboration
with Promusic Records, the label that produced Pathfinder.
-
Current line-up :
-
Adrian Vitanescu - guitar
-
Andrei Calmuc - vocals
-
Mircea Fulea - keyboards
-
Gabi Barani - drums
-
Adrian Nagy - bass
2.WEIRD NAME FOR A BAND. DON'T YOU
THINK? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS MONICKER AND WHAT DO YOU
WANT TO SAY WITH IT?
-
We chose the name because it is representative
for us. Indian Fall is a metaphor, it expresses a period in the winter
when everything blossoms and the nature is alive. But cold weather comes
ravishing...nostalgia and sadness...
3.NAME SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED BANDS
AND ALBUMS THAT HAVE INFLUENCED YOU.
-
Even if we loved to say that we have
no influences, this would make me laugh. We live with the influence and
music is a product of influences. I do not think there are good bands.
I believe that there are only good albums. a brief list that contributed
to my musical and not only musical behaviour:
-
pink floyd - wish you were here
-
moonspell - irreligious
-
opeth - blackwater park
-
arcturus - aspera hiems simfonia
-
The list could continue but I consider
it is enough so far.
4.HOW MANY RELEASES DO YOU HAVE THIS
FAR? WHICH ARE THE DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES AMONG THEM?
TELL US SOME GENERAL THINGS REGARDING YOUR
ALBUM PATHFINDER.
-
Pathfinder was our first album released
from a label. We have a demo which will be edited again soon. There are
differencies because in the beginning we were young and we desired to demonstrate
our musical capabilities. Therefore, the first material has a more progressive
sound. Pathfinder was released at Promusic Production, a metal label coming
from Transylvania, Romania. We worked very hard and we are satisified with
the result. We could have done it better. There is always better. As I
can see now, I should say that Pathfinder is a quest for the listener.
Dedicated to the ones that sleep not so good in the night, they usually
see shadows in the dark, they are afraid, they search a purpose for their
existence.
5.WHAT ARE YOUR LYRICS TALKING ABOUT?
THEY ARE VERY POETICAL. DO YOU
MAINLY DEAL WITH HUMAN EMOTIONS AND SENTIMENTS?
-
We see the world as individuals. Sentiments
that determine behaviours. Music without poetry has no sense. As an individual
that breathes in an absurd existence, dominated by fear and happiness,
melancholy and despression, how could I endure not to write about a different
species of man? It is useless to explain the lyrics...everyone should discover
something else and this is the beauty of it.
6.YOU HAVE SOME REALLY AMAZING PHOTOS
IN THE BOOKLET. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM AND WHICH IS THE CONNECTION
AMONG THEM AND THE LYRICS?
-
The photos reflect our experiences
in the Carpathian mountains. Together with Mircea, the keyboard player
we are wandering during summer in the mountains and caves. Mircea makes
great photos and the booklet also represents a part of us. The connection
with the lyrics is obvious...the emotions.
7.WHICH IS YOUR BIGGEST DREAM? HOW
DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED IN THE FUTURE?
-
We create music because we like music.
We would be really happy to release many albums and to be satisified with
the quality of our music. A dream is to play outside Romania, just to show
that we are different persons gathered together under the power of the
musical notes and the cultural barriers have no sense.
8.HOW DIFFICULT IS IT FOR A BAND FROM
ROMANIA TO STAND UP AND MAKE
THEMSELVES KNOWN IN PUBLIC?
-
Metal bands have a great problem in
Romania. There is no metal scene, only few concerts and the lack of money
is also a problem. But metal is a pale current that will always have its
restricted audience. It is a truth that stands all over the world.
9.HAVE YOU DONE ANY LIVE SHOWS? DO
YOU HAVE ANY WEIRD OR FUNNY STORIES TO SHARE WITH
US?
-
We had many shows all over Romania.
Weird stories to be told...hmm...we went once to a concert and the audience
was a little bit surprised. They expected a blues band and they did not
know that we were a metal band, many old guys that stood on chairs and
expected to be touched by the feeling of blues...it was really funny, and
in the end, after our performance, they applauded. I think they were only
polite...
10.ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK
SO FAR? WHICH WAS THE BEST AND WHICH WAS THE WORST REVIEW YOU HAVE
RECEIVED?
-
We are really content with teh feed
back because the reviews that came from abroad were really very favorable.
We had a very good feed-back from Holland, Italy, Greece and Germany, as
far as I know. I do not know a review that was anti-Pathfinder, and I am
really not so interested in reading album reviews. I prefer to listen an
album and to have first my personal opinion.
11.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THE METALLERS
TO CONVINCE THEM BUY YOUR RELEASE INSTEAD
OF SOMETHING ELSE?
-
I would say nothing. They decide themselves
and we do not compose music in order to be bought.
12.WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WEREN'T
ABLE TO COMPOSE MUSIC?
-
he, he, I am doing so many things.
I graduated Lasers and Automatization College, I am in the second year
at the Philosophy University, so I have many things to do! If not music,
there are many books to be read!
13.IF YOU HAD THE CREATURE THAT CREATED
THE UNIVERSE WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ASK HIM?
-
hmm...there is not such thing...but
just if...the question should be...is this a bad joke?
14.IF YOUR MUSIC WAS AN EMOTION, WHAT
WOULD IT BE?
-
Melancholy and nostalgia.
15.WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW
TO HAVE?
-
Between melancholy and fear (he he,
it sounds very commercial, i think you should change it)
16.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK
YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO
MENTION?
-
thank you for this interview, and all
the best to you and to your readers... best regards
