LAGRIMAS
NEGRAS
Lagrimas Negras is a special
band. The kind of band that feels asphyxiating in a specific genre. A band
with no boundaries, no limits to restrain it. But with one specific thing
that fully represents it and this is no other than originality and obscurity.
As the band says “Keep an open mind”! Step into their world… You have a
lot to gain…
1.HELLO AND MY CONGRATULATIONS
FOR YOUR VERY ORIGINAL ALBUM! WELL, I AM INTERESTED TO LEARN WHAT KIND
OF PERSONS ARE LAGRIMAS NEGRAS IN THEIR EVERYDAY LIFE AND WHAT ELSE DO
THEY LIKE TO DO BESIDES PLAYING MUSIC?
Hey Nick, thanks a lot for your
words...well, I think we live our lives the best we can, so we try to enjoy
everything people try to deny, I mean just to enjoy true friends we have,
or appraise the little things surrounding our everyday lives; we need to
create a background about the things that makes you strong...otherwise
life is so boring...so we love to read a lot, we love movies too just for
eluding reality we hate, look at some landscapes, the rain, but of course
we spend our time making and listening music,a lot of music.
2.USUALLY THE BANDS PICK A NAME BASED
ON THEIR PHILOSOPHY AND THE MUSIC THEY PLAY. WHAT DOES YOUR NAME MEAN AND
WHAT CAN A PERSON UDNERSTAND ONLY BY LISTENING TO YOUR NAME WITHOUT HAVING
LISTENED TO YOUR MUSIC PREVIOUSLY.
We didn´t take our name deliberately;
it´s the translation into english from one of our first songs. The
words fixed up ok in our mind, reflecting then and now the music we´re
doing in a wide sense. The black colour and the tears symbolizes that world
of melancholy and darkness at the same time.
3.SOMETHING THAT IMPRESSED ME IS THAT
YOU STARTED AS A BLUES BAND UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME AND AFTER SOME TIME
YOU CHOSE TO PLAY METAL. HOW PHYSICALLY DID THIS CHANGE OF MUSICAL DIRECTION
OCCUR? DO YOU THINK THAT YOUR BLUES PAST REFLECTS ON YOUR COMPOSITIONS?
Well, music is a very important
thing in our lives, so when we started to play I was playing the guitars
in that very first band with two friends; the other guys used to play hard
rock, blues and music in that way and well, I wanted to play just everything....but
I really had some problems, I need to express my feelings through music
and need to play different kinds of music, so the evolution needed with
the other guys was not possible...it was the right time to start introducing
our true musical background, so we were ready to compose doom metal but
with other influences because of the last years playing blues or hard rock...I
think we use at present all this we´re talking just to compose always
searching for a different kind of music.
4.WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THOSE BANDS
THAT USED TO PLAYING METAL AND DECIDED TO CHANGE THEIR STYLE AND FORGET
EVERYTHING THEY'VE DONE?
That point is a bit difficult to
handle...I always try to enter inside the mind of the musician, try to
understand the evolution of a band...the most important thing is that always
you need to put your feelings into music, so everyone is free to do that
in the way he or she thinks about. I respect what the musician try to express,
so no matter if it´s metal, or just rock, if you think you´re
doing the best you can, it´s ok...besides that, you have new bands
playing death, black, or whatever in the way we love metal, so you can
listen to a lot of original bands, good bands with no label and forget
the ones you don´t like to listen nevermore...so where´s the
matter?? yeah! it´s inside everyone of us, that´s the
matter.
5.I KNOW THAT MOST OF THE ARTISTS HATE
TO BE LABELED, BUT I BELIEVE THAT IT'S NECESSARY FOR THE FANS TO HAVE A
HINT OF THE KIND OF MUSIC YOU PLAY. SO, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC?
I REALLY CAN'T SAY YOU BELONG TO A SPECIFIC GENRE.
First of all, we don´t hate
to be labeled, I agree with you that it´s the way we need the people
knows about our music....but I think it´s possible too if you need
to release your music and then spread all over the world...talking about
a concrete genre, it´s difficult to say. I think sometimes there´s
no need to include our music in death, black, doom or gothic, just obscure
music, cause we have so many influences, not only music in the most extensive
meaning, but a lot of feelings (good and bad), literature, movies....so
you don´t need to classify a band to love or hate it !!
6.ONE OF THE THINGS THAT YOU CAN EASILY
NOTICE IS THE UNIQUE SOUND OF YOUR BAND. SO, WHAT "ALCHEMIES" DO YOU USE
TO CREATE SUCH A SOUND?
About the sound, I think it´s
maybe our way to compose...we don´t leave out anything we consider
interesting for our songs; we try to reflect in our music our vision in
life, so we use any kind of structures and rhythms and then we just make
the song little by little....well, I´m trying to explain just what
we´re doing to make our music, but it´s strange to say, because
we make it in a natural way, it´s our way to make the songs, we don´t
know the punctual formula.
7.NOW THAT YOU HAVE FINISHED THE ALBUM
AND YOU LISTEN TO IT, HOW DO YOU FEEL? DO YOU THINK THAT YOU HAVE SUCCEEDED
IN TURNING YOUR EMOTIONS (WHEN YOU WERE COMPOSING THE SONGS) INTO MUSIC?
Right, I think we´re coming
more aggresive in the last 2 years, for this reason some parts of “Inertia”
are into death or black metal; maybe it´s all for the need to show
a little speed in our music. In the beginning, we were composing into a
doom style, and of course today we need to put some of our feelings in
this gloomy way, but as you´re listening “Inertia” you can realize
about the different styles we´re playing. So we need all this to
express our thoughts, sometimes negative feelings or just a punctual view
of life...
8.WELL, "INERTIA" IS A FULL LENGTH
ALBUM. IS IT SELF FINANCED OR WILL IT BE RELEASED FROM A LABEL? IF YES,
UNDER WHICH ONE?
“Inertia” was recorded only by
the 2 guys-founders of the band; as always we love to work side by side,
with no hurry, no rules and doing just what we want...but now, I hope in
a few weeks, “Inertia” will be released by the Mexican “Dahmer Productions”,
so it´s the first time we work with a label, and we expect the best
for us, but only time will tell about...
9.SPAIN WASN'T FAMOUS IN THE
80S FOR ITS METAL SCENE EXCEPT FOR BARON ROJO PERHAPS AND SUDDENLY IN THE
MID 90S MANY INTERESTING BANDS POPPED OUT FROM YOUR COUNTRY. WHICH ARE
THE REASONS ACCORDING TO YOU THAT HELPED INTO THE CREATION OF SUCH INTERESTING
BANDS?
Well, we think you can find interesting
bands here along the last years, but there are so many problems, no support
through media...that the usual way one band goes is little by little decreasing
all their hopes...so I agree with that kind of decisions because music
is so expensive that in the majority of any band you can´t go on
for so much time...but fortunately some bands endure through time and people
can enjoy some of their music; usually, any band needs time to find the
style their searching for, and here in Spain doom, death, black.....finds
no support, no fans to keep alive this music, except for the underground
were I think you can develop all your music and thoughts in the right way
this kind of band needs.
10.HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO PARTICIPATE
IN THE ATLANTIDA COMPILATION CD? DID IT HELP YOU AND IN WHICH WAYS? WHY
DID YOU CHOOSE THE SONG "TWISTED MINDS ARISE" FOR THIS COMPILATION? I THINK
YOU HAVE MORE INTERESTING SONGS ON YOUR CD.
We decided to send our music to
Atlantida because it´s a good way to be included inside any kind
of Compilation, it lets you know other bands, zines and people and spread
your music as far as you can. And the song “twisted minds arise” inside
the Comp, well...the way Ruslanas worked with us was to send the complete
Cd and he chose the one he loved, so it wasn´t our decision
and we agree with you that we have more interesting songs along “Inertia”,
but we love this one too.
11.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT
WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
We think it would be not only an
emotion but the whole, maybe as much as melodies, as much as the parts
of one song. Melancholy mixed with aggressiveness, if it had a name....yes,
it would be!And if a painting, it could have some kind of abstract
touch and mixed colours to show us a confused picture, a strange work meaning
as many things as people would see it.
12.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE THAT
DOESN'T KNOW YOU, IN ORDER TO INTRIGUE HIS INTEREST? WHICH IS YOUR MOST
APPEALING ELEMENT ACCORDING TO YOU?
I will try to suggest anyone telling
that you must listen to our music with no prejudice, I mean...we always
try to mix different elements in our music and we know some people say
“I only believe in True black metal” or “only Death metal means for me”,
but we love so many kinds of music that it´s impossible not to make
such a summary of the dark music inside ours, so be open minded and no
matter with, maybe you´ll appraise our band.
13.WHICH SONG WOULD YOU DEDICATE TO
THE WOMAN OF YOUR DREAMS?
The love shaped in a dreamed woman
easily could appear between our songs; talking about Inertia, I think “Underwater”
would be the perfect song for that feeling.
14.IN WHICH MOVIE SOUNDTRACK WOULD
YOU LIKE TO HAVE TAKEN PART OR HAVE COMPOSED?
If someone told me to choose the
score to compose about the film music history, with no doubt “Legends of
the fall” from James Horner, but that music could come out only from his
hands. I just love to accept and offer little projects to feel the depth
for composing images.
15.WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW
TO HAVE?
“Downspiral to Inertia”, yeah !!
I think it´s a good one, maybe we could use it in our next Cd, we´ll
think about! ....hey, wait a minute, Aneliria said “Tears of leyend” ;
so, you could take the one you think better.
16.THANK YOU! WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO
ADD?
We want to thank you and your readers
for your time and your interest, and just to encourage you to follow our
band and visit us in www.lagrimasnegras.net
...and of course Support the underground
!!
