on fighting for the glory of metal", "The pathos and power of Heavy Metal"
and "Keep It True" are some of the phrases that revealed Majesty's true
love for heavy metal. Germany, the capital of heavy metal, can still surprise
us with its devotion to heavy metal and still offers us so many great bands.
Search the underground and you can witness it yourselves too. Here we represent
you one more amazing band MAJESTY. All bow your heads, Majesty is paving
the way...
1.GIVE A SHORT BIO OF THE BAND
AND WHICH ARE THE CURRENT BAND MEMBERS?
Well, the band was formed in 1997
by Udo and me. From the beginning on it was our purpose to play loud and
wild True fucking Heavy Metal. After the first Line Up was completed we
started playing gigs as soon as possible. In the early phase of the band
we recorded two demos, which both had an awful sound, because they were
just rehearsal room tapes. At the end of 1999 I decided, that the band
would need a professional CD to move forward and so I clubbed together
all my money and we went into the "House of Audio" Studio to record "Keep
It True". We were and still are very proud with the result of it. The CD
came out at the end of 2000 and until now the reactions are all very positive,
and that´s a great feeling for a band, because it shows us, that
we made something right. The current Band members are Michael Graeter on
drums, Andy Moll on Keyboards, Martin Hehn on the bass, Udo Keppner on
the guitars and me on the guitar and lead vocals.
2.HOW MANY ALBUMS HAVE YOU RELEASED?
ARE YOU STILL SATISFIED WITH THEM OR IS THERE ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO CHANGE?
"Keep It True" is the first professional
release of the band. As I mentioned, we released two demos before, but
the sound was really not good. Though we still like the songs on them and
that is why on "Keep It True" we rerecorded four songs from the demos and
four songs for the first time.
3.ARE YOU PREPARING A NEW ALBUM? HAVE
YOU GOT ANY NEW SONGS READY?
Yes we do have a lot of new songs
ready. We already played some of them Live and the reactions were very
good. One of these songs is called "Metal to the Metalheads" and we always
play it as the finale of our shows, while the audience goes always crazy
when play it. I hope that we are able to release a new album in 2002.
4.WHICH ARE YOUR MAIN INFLUENCES AND
WHICH ARE THE 5 MOST BELOVED BANDS OF YOURS FROM GERMANY?
MANOWAR, IRON MAIDEN or JUDAS PRIEST(till
"Painkiller") are of course big influences of ours, to name just some big
names. But there are so many great Metalbands who influenced us. It´s
too hard for me to pick out five great german bands, because there are
too many. For example WIZARD, SACRED STEEL, PARAGON to name just a few.
5.WHAT ARE YOUR LYRICS TALKING ABOUT?
REAL LIFE SITUATIONS OR FANTASTIC STORIES?
I think that in a way Metal should
be an escape out of reality. If you go to a Metal concert you don´t
want to hear songs about real Life situations, you want to have a great
time with your Brothers and Sisters and to celebrate your great music.
That is my opinion and that´s why our Lyrics deal about Heavy Metal
as our way to live, and great Battles and warriors. If you want to hear
about real Life situations you should turn on your TV and watch the news.
6.HAVE YOU DONE ANY LIVE SHOWS? DO
YOU LIKE PERFORMING LIVE?
Oh yes, we try to play Live as
often as possible. When we are on stage, we feel that great magic and power
which is also descriped in our song "Hail To Majesty" which is our opener
when we play Live. One of the greatest experiences for us in our short
history was, when we were able to play at the Warm Up show of the BANG
YOUR HEAD 2001Festival. That was a great honor for us.
7.WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY WITH YOUR
BAND NAME AND HOW DID YOU SELECT IT?
Well, when we started with the
band we were looking for a name which would perfectly fit to our music
and our way of Life. MAJESTY has all of that. The pathos and the power
of Heavy Metal, so we said that´s exactly the right band name for
us.
8.HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE FACT THAT
GERMANY IS THE CAPITAL OF METAL MUSIC AND MANY GREAT BANDS COME FROM THERE?
IS THE COMPETITION BIGGER OR IS IT EASIER TO BECOME KNOWN?
Good question. In a way it is funny
because in Germany we see other countries as the capital of Metal. Greece,
Japan or Brasil for example. But you are right, compared to other countries
the Metal scene is still very powerfull in Germany. I don´t think
that there is too much competition between the bands because we are all
fighting for the same thing. I think it is easier to become known because
of the technical possibilites like the internet. But that is not only for
Germany.
9.WHICH SONG OF YOURS DO YOU THINK
IS THE MOST IDEAL TO REPRESENT YOUR MUSICAL DIRECTION?
That´s always a hard thing
to answer for a songwriter. But I think that lyricaly "Keep It True" is
a good example because its lyrics show what we think about Heavy Metal.
Metal is timeless and it will survive every trend. You should always play
your music because it comes from your heart, and not to follow any certain
trends or to make money. Heavy Metal is the most important thing in our
lives and that is what we are trying to say with all of our songs.
10.WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WEREN'T
ABLE TO COMPOSE AND PLAY MUSIC?
It would be horrible. In a way
my life would be over because I could not express myself anymore. Playing
and composing Metalsongs is all I´m living for.
11.DO YOU LIKE READING BOOKS? WHICH
IS YOUR MOST BELOVED BOOK AND AUTHOR?
Oh yes I do. I´m a big fan
of Tolkien. I think "Lord of the Rings" has everything. The eternal fight
between good and evil, great Battles, wonderfull characters and so much
more. If you want to escape from reality listen to a Metalsong or read
Tolkien. I also watched the movie and it is wonderfull too. I was a little
sceptical first, because you always thought that you can´t make a
movie out of the book, but that was completely wrong. I think that "Lord
of the Rings" is not only the best books of all times, but also the greatest
movie, and that was just the first part of the trilogy. Another author
I really love is Raymond Feist. If you read all of Tolkien and you´re
looking for another great fantasy author, than you have to read the "Midkemia
Saga" from Feist.
12.WOULD YOU LIKE TO COMPOSE THE SOUNDTRACK
FOR A MOVIE? WHICH MOVIE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
Mmh, never thought about that.
I think that writing the scale for a movie is very complex, but of course
I would love to do that. It should be a movie with a lot of pathos like
CONAN for example.But as I said, writing a movie soundtrack is a very complex
thing and I have a lot of respect for the artists who are doing it.
13.WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE POLITICAL
SITUATION DEVELOPED NOW, AFTER THOSE TERRORIST ATTACKS IN THE U.S.A.?
On the day the attacks happened
I was at home and I tuned to CNN and they just said that a plane has crashed
into one of the towers. It was not clear at that moment, that it was a
terrorist attack, but after it was clear when the second plane hit, I was
shocked. I remembered my vacation in New York and when I was at the top
of the WTC myself. I still can´t imagine, how sick someone must be
to plan and to fullfill such an attack. The following war in Afganistan
was problematic too, because of the civilian casulties. Always the poor
and innocent people are suffering , though they just want to live their
peacefull life, while the responsible people sitting in their fucking caves
and watch them die.
