MAMA
KIN
Mama Kin is a band trying
to accomplish a difficult task… Trying to bring the old ways back in music
isn’t an easy thing to do. Achieving this party sound with a strong reference
to the 70s and 80s hard rock needs guts and above all inspiration. So,
a few months after the first interview with Mama Kin, I received their
second demo “Partytime” and I just couldn’t lose the chance of asking a
few more thinks Chris Action.
1. FIRST OF ALL, I'D LIKE TO HEAR
WHAT YOU THINK OF "PARTYTIME" NOW, SINCE IT'S BEEN A WHILE FROM ITS RELEASE.
WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE NOW OR WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU COULD HAVE DONE BETTER?
I wouldn’t change a thing. The
“Partytime”- CD is what it is. That’s the sound of that particular recording,
in the same way “Three is company” also has its own sound. The next CD
will sound different than the others, as will the following recordings,
and that´s the way I like it! Every recording has its specific sound
and feeling.
2. DO YOU AGREE WITH THE REVIEW I WROTE
FOR "PARTYTIME"? I MEAN THE FACT THAT IT BEARS THE MARK OF KISS SO INTENSIVELY?
WAS THIS YOUR PURPOSE?
No, it wasn’t. We don´t set
out to sound like anyone else, but I listen to KISS a lot, so of course
it will show in the songs.
3. I SUPPOSE THAT THE LYRICS
ARE THE TYPICAL RIGHT? CAN YOU TELL US YOURSELVES? :))
Yeah, it’s about sex, partying
& having fun. “Downtown” for example is about giving each other oral
sex, and “Show you something” is about make up sex. We’re writing about
what we like to do.
4. WHICH ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THIS DEMO?
HAVE YOU SENT IT TO ANY LABELS OR ARE YOU THINKING TO SEND IT?
We’ve recently finished all our
deliveries to magazines, e-zines and radios. Now we’re going to send it
to record companies and places we can play at. We want to play live as
much as possible this year.
5. WHAT KIND OF FEEDBACK HAVE YOU RECEIVED
THIS FAR? IS THERE A COMMON STATEMENT YOU SEE REPEATED IN ALMOST ALL THE
REVIEWS YOU GOT?
Almost everyone think it’s similar
to KISS and think it’s a good CD to have at a party. Every review this
far has been positive.
6. DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR A LIVE
SHOW? DO YOU PLAY COVER SONGS AS WELL?
As I wrote earlier, we are planning
on playing as much as possible this year, everywhere we can. We usually
play one new cover every live show apart from “Mama Kin”.
7. NAME YOUR TOP 5 CD LIST FOR 2003.
I only buy records from the 70´s
and 80´s… Was there even ONE good release 2003? I’d have to say The
Darkness and MAMA KIN. Most new music ain´t worth checking out.
8. THANK YOU! IS THERE ANYTHING YOU'D
LIKE TO ADD?
Keep rawkin & check back on
the MAMA KIN website for a lot of cool shit in 2004!
