MANDRAKE
ROOTS
It hasn't been long since
the previous interview we did with Mandrake Roots, so this one is shorter
and more focused to the band's latest demo release, which is an incredible
example of well played and full of inspiration hard 'n' heavy music. My
only proposal to you is to read the following interview and listen to their
songs. They worth your attention! Believe me!
1.HELLO! IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN SOME
LINE UP CHANGES OCCURED IN THE CAMP OF MANDRAKE ROOTS. WHO LEFT AND WHO
JOINED THE BAND? IN WHICH WAYS DO YOU THINK THE NEW MEMBERS CAN HELP THE
BAND?
Hello!Since the band first got
together we had some changes in the line-up. In particular our keyboard
player left the band after our second demo "Crawling in your ear" for personal
reasons, no hard feelings. He is now replaced by our current keyboard player,George
Sechlides. Because we all listen to different kinds of music, the mixture
is weird but we think that it's good.
2.LET'S COME TO THE NEW DEMO. YOUR
MUSIC BECAME HEAVIER AND IF I MAY SAY, IT'S FLIRTING A LOT WITH
DOOM AND N.W.O.B.H.M. DO YOU AGREE?
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO MAKE YOUR MUSIC HEAVIER AND DARKER?
It just got that way in the process.
We don't know how it's going to be in our next songs. More hard-rock,more
heavy...We don't know,we just let it roll.
3.ONCE AGAIN YOU HAVE RECORDED YOUR
DEMO IN NEMESIS STUDIO AND THE SOUND IS PROFESSIONAL. DO YOU THINK THAT
FINALLY GREECE HAS SOME PRODUCERS THAT KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH METAL BANDS?
Greece has a tradition in heavy-metal
and so the producers gained experience through the years. But,if the band
is not around the time the producer is adjusting the sound,then...many
problems may rise. Many...
4.THE LYRICS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE
BOOKLET. SO TELL ME FOR WHICH THEMES DO YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT? THE SINGER
IN SOME PARTS SOUNDS PISSED OFF. WHY IS THAT?
All lyrics are written by our singer:
"Eveything that comes in mind. Anything. I'd like the listener to come
up to whatever meaning he likes. Just use your illusions and you'll get
to the point. Accept no realism. Feelings come out of the lyrics. Soft
lyrics must be sang smoothly and angry lyrics need anger."
5.HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THIS PERSISTANCE
WITH MANDRAKE? IT IS A PLANT USED MAINLY IN BLACK MAGIC RITUALS. DOES IT
HAVE A SPECIAL MEANING? DO YOU THINK THAT YOUR MUSIC HAS A BLENT OF MYSTICISM
IN IT?
The band was named by our drummer.
It's an old song of Deep Purple. It was a plant which-as it is believed-had
magical powers. We think its a cool name and we just like it.
6.WHY "PRELUDE TO MY WORLD" WAS LEFT
UNFINISHED? I MEAN ON THE DEMO YOU HAVE PT.1 ONLY. DID YOU COMPOSE PT.
2 OR NOT YET? WHICH IS THE MAIN THEME OF THIS SONG?
It's all got to do with the lyrics.There
will be two more parts in the future. Not completed yet.
7.WHICH ARE THE IDEAL WORDS TO DESCRIBE
YOUR MUSIC?
Heavy rock with some influences
from progressive and doom metal.
8.DO YOU HAVE ANY CONTACTS WITH LABELS?
WHAT KIND OF FEEDBACK DO YOU RECEIVE FROM THE METALLERS IN GENERAL?
We don't have a contract deal yet.
In Greece,labels don't trust bands easily. Any proposals?? We just want
to make our music in a studio,make the best sound we think possible and
tour in everyplace we can,for the people around the world to get to know
us and love our music.
9.WHICH SONG WOULD YOU DEDICATE TO
THE WOMAN OF YOUR DREAMS?
Everyone in the band would dedicate
a different song. But we all think that our song "A last goodbye" is good.Download
