Infection
Mass Infection is a very
promising band in the extreme Greek metal scene that reveals to us with
their promo CD their potential. Their death metal is brutal, tight, aggressive
and extreme and the most important thing is that they don't settle, but
they try to find the ideal, for them, sound and leave their mark. Evolution
is an improtant factor for music and we think that bands like that must
be supported. This is what we've got out of this interview...
1. HELLO AND CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR VERY
GOOD PROMO CD!
Thank you very much for your good words and
for your support.
2. SO, WHAT HAPPENED TO MASS INFECTION FROM THE
RELEASE OF THE “BELIEVE THE LIE” DEMO TILL THIS “PROMO 2005” RELEASE?
First of all we have changed drummer. Chris,
after a very good association, left the band for personal reasons and his
place came to fill in Nick from Insected. Furthermore the sound of our
music has become more extreme.
3. MUSICALLY SPEAKING I NOTICED THAT YOU MADE
A TURN TOWARDS A MORE EXTREME AND BRUTAL DEATH METAL DIRECTION. I MEAN
YOU STILL HAVE THRASH METAL INFLUENCES, BUT DEATH METAL DOMINATES YOUR
COMPOSITIONS. WHY? WHICH ARE THE REASONS THAT MADE YOUR SOUND MORE BRUTAL?
The fact that we have changed drummer was
one of the most important reasons. As you see, when a new member comes
into the band that has as a result to change some things. Besides it was
in our plans to play more extreme and Nick helped us to succeed in that.
This change is something that expresses us.
4. SO, DO YOU THINK YOU’VE MANAGED TO FIND THE
SOUND THAT CHARACTERIZES YOU OR DO YOU THINK YOU STILL HAVE A LONG WAY
TO GO? WILL YOU CONTINUE ON MORE BRUTAL DEATH METAL FORMS OR NOTHING’S
BEEN DETERMINED YET?
I believe that, in any new composing process
and mainly in the recordings, you discover new elements for the band’s
form. Differently there are some standards to the band that conserve the
expression. As far as it concerns the tone of new songs, they are similar
to those of the Promo with some more death bursts.
5. PLEASE DESCRIBE “PROMO 2005” FOR THE READERS
TO LEARN YOUR POINT OF VIEW AND POINT OUT WHICH ARE, ACCORDING TO YOU,
THE MAIN DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES BETWEEN “PROMO 2005” AND “BELIEVE
THE LIE”…
Our Promo consists of 2 new songs (Decay,
Eternal Oblivion) which have death metal influences from bands such as
VADER, BOLT THROWER and DEATH. As far as the similarities between Demo
and Promo, they have the same philosophy to the lyrics and the same construction
on the tracks. The differences are that the Promo’s songs are more aggressive
and the production is closer to the sound of Death Metal.
6. TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE LYRICS OF THESE
2 SONGS… HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO PUT DOWN TO WORDS YOUR THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS
AND THEN “MATCH” THEM WITH THE MUSIC?
The lyrics refer to the “ugly” side of humanity
and how this can influence every person. The ability to combine the thoughts
and the emotions is not that difficult because these two are combined.
For example, thought cannot exist without emotion and vise versa. As far
as it concerns the combination between these two elements with the music,
that is something which comes unsolicited when the right feeling for each
song comes forth.
7. THIS “PROMO 2005” CD CONTAINS 2 COMPOSITIONS
ONLY. WHY? DON’T YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SONGS READY OR DID YOU WANT TO INCLUDE
LESS SONGS AND FOCUS ON A BETTER PRODUCTION?
We have decided to write 2 songs because the
Promo-2005 is destined mainly for the quest of a label. We have already
composed the material for our first full-length album.
8. HAVE YOU SENT THE PROMO TO ANY LABELS TILL
NOW? YOU RELEASED THIS PROMO IN ORDER TO FIND A LABEL… SO, HAVE YOU GOT
ANY FEEDBACK OR NOT YET?
We have sent it to many labels and the comments
are encouraging. Some of them are interested in us but nothing serious
has happened yet. The others are already full or they want something more
extreme.
9. WHAT WAS THE BEST AND WHAT WAS THE WORST COMMENT
YOU HEARD ABOUT YOUR MUSIC?
The best comment was that there is evolution
and a better setting among the band members between the Promo and the Demo.
While the worst comment was that the Promo’s production is not so good.
10. YOU’VE PLAYED IN MANY LIVE SHOWS WITH SOME
OF THE FINEST AND MOST FAMOUS GREEK BANDS. HOW DO YOU EVALUATE THE EXPERIENCE
YOU EARNED?
Lives are generally a very important experience
for us. Through them we acquire guts –they are needed – we built character
and we learn many things.
11. ARE THERE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS NOW? HOW
CAN A GREEK BAND GET OUTSIDE THE GREEK BORDERS AND PLAY LIVE IN OTHER COUNTRIES
AS WELL?
There are some live appearances which we will
have this time. The fact for a Greek band to go abroad is not unattainable
but it is important to have good acquaintances, money and above all the
right attitude.
12. WHAT THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS DO YOU THINK YOUR
SONGS CREATE TO THOSE WHO LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC?
That is a thing that you have to tell us.
