MEMORAIN
-
Come, come..Join
us! Let's travel through our memories. Some are painful, some offer as
pleasure. No matter what, one thing is for sure. Memories teach us! So,
come on and follow the rain of memories of these Greek guys...
1.TELL US IN A FEW WORDS THE MOST IMPORTANT
MOMENTS OF
THE BAND'S HISTORY. WHICH IS TODAY'S
LINE UP?
-
The band was put together in September
1999. The line up of the band is: Ilias Papadakis (Guitars/Vocals), Alex
Doutsis (Guitars), Kostas Bagiatis (Bass), Panos Andricopoulos (Drums).
The most important moment of the band was when we played our first live
together. It was the moment that we found out that the chemistry that we
had as partners was really good.
2.WHY HAVE YOU NAMED THE BAND
THIS WAY AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT? HOW IMPORTANT DO YOU THINK IS THE
CORRECT CHOICE OF A BAND NAME?
-
When I started the band I was looking
for a name that could travel you and make you think. And that time our
former bass player John came with that name, and I thought it’s great.
I want to write music that will make people think about some crazy things
that happen in our lives. I want with my music to awake some memories.
3.WHAT ARE YOUR LYRICS TALKING
ABOUT? IS THERE A DEEPER
MEANING BEHIND THEM?
-
In our lyrics you can see real life
stories. About problems in human releatioships, war, how our political
system works. Anything from an ordinary day in your life. As I told I want
to write about things that we’ll make the others think for all the bad
things in our live.
4.HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR
MUSIC? WHICH BANDS DO YOU LIKE AND WHICH DO YOU DISLIKE?
-
You can say that we are a heavy thrash
band, because we have many influences from bands like Megadeth, Metallica,
Flotsam and Jetsam. But the funny thing is that you can see in our music
more melody than from the other old school thrash bands and the reason
is because our guitarist Alex is a big fun of Uli Jon Roth and in his solos
you can see the melody and the feelings of pure rock. For me the best band
is Megadeth and I have many influences from them.
5.TELL US IN A FEW WORDS THINGS
FOR EACH OF YOUR RELEASES AND MOSTLY FOR YOUR LATEST. ARE YOU STILL SATISFIED
WITH THEM?
-
The first demo was recorded in November
1999 and included six-from traditional heavy to thrash metal- songs . In
the summer of 2000 the band recorded a 2 - track promo CD in the same music
style. In January 2001 was recorded "Until You Die". The material
which includes 5 songs proves that the band worked hard in order to produce
the best possible results. In March 2001 the band recorded a 2 - track
promo CD (for record companies only). Also the band recorded one song for
the upcoming compilation cd of Vod Records Voices Of Death "Pt5". The title
of the song is "The Right thing". Finally last week we recorded one MEGADETH
song (Disconnect) for a tribute cd. The name of the cd will be Droogies
A Tribute To MEGADETH. We are really proud for all this material, it's
a part of our history.
6.HAVE YOU DONE ANY LIVE SHOWS? HOW
IS OR DO YOU IMAGINE TO BE A TYPICAL MEMORAIN LIVE?
-
We have done some live shows and was
really great. For us a Memorain live show is a party. We don't care which
band is before or after us, the time that we play it's a memorain gig.
7.HOW DIFFICULT IS FOR A GREEK
BAND TO SURVIVE IN THE METAL INDUSTRY? WOULD IT BE EASIER IF YOU WERE FROM
ANOTHER COUNTRY UP FROM THE NORTH?
-
I believe it’s very difficult. Latelly
we recorded a 2-track promo cd, the one that I send you, and we try to
get in touch with some labels, they do not only want from us to proove
them that we can play all these things but also they tell us that we must
win their trust. The reason was that some bands from Greece they fucked
up their contract and they don’t trust Greek bands. My opinion is that
when we ask, I meen the Greek bands, from the labels to sign us but we
don’t always show them that we are professionals we must not wait for a
contract. I believe when you sign a contract you must be ready to keep
this contract.
8.IF SOMEDAY YOU HAD THE CHANCE
TO MEET THE CREATURE THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE, WHICH WOULD YOUR BIGGEST
QUESTION BE?
9.WHICH IS MAN'S BIGGEST TEMPTATION?
-
I believe money and power.
10.IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE,
WHICH HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY?WHAT WOULD YOU
MISS THE MOST FROM OUR TIME?
-
I would like to see the birth of Jesus.
That will be something else. From our time I believe the only thing that
I miss is honesty. It’s something rare.
11.WHAT PROLOGUE AND TITLE WOULD
YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO HAVE?
12.MANY METAL MUSICIANS ACCUSE
POP STARS FOR THEIR LIFE STYLE, YET WE SEE SUCH BEHAVIOURS IN THE METAL
SCENE AS WELL (BANDS PAYING TO MAKE A COVER FOR SUCCESFUL MAGAZINES, HAVING
A GOOD REVIEW, METAL LABELS PROMOTING SPECIFIC BANDS AND GENRES EACH EPOCH,ETC).
IS IT MAYBE AFTER ALL TRUE THAT THE METAL INDUSTRY DOESN'T DIFFER FROM
THE POP? WHICH ARE YOUR THOUGHTS
ON THAT?
-
Music indusry is the same no matter
the music style. The labels don’t care if it’s metal, pop or jazz. They
see only numbers, nothing more nothing less, they want only to sell. If
anyone things that the metal record companies are different from the others
I believe that they see it with a romantic way. The big difference is the
metal fans, we are really different from the others. We believe in music,
we don’t see the music only for having good time, we want from our music
to think and learn and many times to travel with our minds. That you don’t
find it in pop music for sure.
13.HOW ARE YOU PLANNING TO PROMOTE
YOUR MUSIC? WHICH SONG OF YOURS DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST IDEAL TO REPRESENT
YOU?
-
We try to do some live shows, I believe
that is the only way to really promote your music. In live shows you can
see how people react in your music, and it’s a good way to show to people
if you are really good. Anyone can play in a studio but in a live show
you can’t hide anything, you don’t have a second chance. The most ideal
song to represent our band is "Burning Justice". In that song you can see
the technic, the aggressiveness, the speed in our music and the lyrics
I believe they will make you to thing how justice really works.
14.IF YOU HAD ENOUGH MONEY TO
MAKE A VIDEO CLIP HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BE?
-
The song that we thing that will be
good for a video clip is Burning Justice or Digital Crimes. I don't think
I can tell you how it will be, this is not my job. I believe a good director
could think something good.
15.WHICH IS YOUR MOST BELOVED
MOVIE YOU'VE SEEN LATELY AND WHICH BOOK YOU ENJOYED READING?
-
I haven't read any really good book
lately but I saw a fucking great movie, Spiderman. You know, I grew up
with this comic and watching it was something really great. I felt like
8 years old again.
16.IF YOU WEREN'T INVOLVED WITH
THE MUSIC, WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO?
-
If it wasn’t music in my life I would
like to study modern history. For me it’s something interesting.
17.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOT
TO ASK YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
-
