Memorized
Dreams
As the second part of their
name indicates, this band offers a "dreamy" touch to thier compositions...
And tell me who doesn't want to remember his dreams and see them again
and again... Here we have Frode and Kenneth inviting us into Memorized
Dreams' world...
1. HELLO! "THEATER
OF LIFE" WAS RELEASED A FEW DAYS AGO FROM YOUR LABEL. DO YOU FEEL ANXIOUS
ABOUT IT? DO YOU THINK THAT THE FANS OF THIS MUSIC WILL ACCEPT IT?
Frode: We are very satisfied with the album
actually, considering its our first attempt in the metal scene; I think
it turned out pretty good. Of course we are excited about the feedback,
but so far the reviews have been very good. I think this album should be
something for the fans of this kind of music; it has some fast songs, heavy
songs, ballads, and lots of melody!!
2. MEMORIZED DREAMS IS A BEAUTIFUL NAME FOR A
BAND. VERY POETIC! WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR IT AND WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY
WITH THIS NAME? IS IT PERHAPS THAT YOUR MUSIC HAS A FLAVOR OF DREAMS?
Frode: I think it was basically my idea, which
the band voted on, and together we decided on the name. I had no deep meaning
behind it really, but if you think about it, it could represent and catch
some of the essence of the bands music, and mood.
3. SINCE WE SPEAK OF DREAMS, DO YOU REMEMBER ANY
DREAM OR NIGHTMARE YOU'VE SEEN AND YOU STILL VIVIDLY REMEMBER IT? CAN YOU
DESCRIBE IT?
Kenneth: Well... I will be honest and say
that I keep all of my dreams and nightmares to myself... But in the world
of Memorized Dreams, Nightmares doesn't exist, hehe.
4. YOUR MUSIC HAS A VARIETY SOMETHING THAT IS
NOT VERY USUAL FOR A EURO POWER METAL BAND, SINCE MOST OF THEM SOUND LIKE
HELLOWEEN CLONES. HOW DID YOU ACHIEVE THIS?
Frode: Thanks, I take that as a great compliment
actually. I think it’s very important to have your own sound, if you just
sound like any other Helloween-copy-band you won’t have a chance in this
scene, there are simply too many bands who sounds like that. You could
easily hear our Helloween influences as well, but you also hear it’s Memorized
Dreams right away. I think this comes pretty naturally for us actually,
it’s not something we focus on, it just becomes this way. I also think
our sound will be even more defined in the future!
5. NOW I AM ALWAYS INTERESTED IN THE LYRICS. HOW
IMPORTANT DO YOU THINK THEY ARE FOR YOUR MUSIC? CAN YOU TELL ME IN A FEW
WORDS THA MAIN SUBJKECTS YOU DEAL WITH?
Frode: I also share your interest in lyrics.
I think they are very important, and good lyrics will make the songs survive
even longer I think. I have to mention one guy here; Tobi Sammet from Edguy,
I simply love his lyrics. The main idea for the lyrics on this album is
on the emotional scale, it deals a lot with what’s going on in peoples
mind. The lyrics here has some religious influences as well, I’m not telling
people what to believe, and stuff like that, it’s more like telling people
about the religion’s affects on the human mind, are we redeemed or enslaved?
There are also some lyrics on the album that might not sound as “deep”,
but if you look carefully you’ll find more that you would think there as
well.
6. IN SOME OF YOUR SONGS YOU HAVE AS GUESTS, MUSICIANS
FROM TRONDHEIM SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA. HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO COOPERATE WITH
THEM? DID THEY LIKE YOUR MUSIC?
Frode: They were very easy to work with, very
professional people, all their stuff was recorded in a few hours, I think
they enjoy doing stuff like this really, something different from their
everyday job.
7. WHEN YOU USE A SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA, MOST OF
THE TIMES, IT MEANS THAT YOUR LABEL HAS TO PAY SOME EXTRA MONEY FOR THE
PRODUCTION. HOW DID SOUND RIOT REACT AND HOW DID YOU CONVINCE THEM TO DO
SOMETHING LIKE THAT? DID YOU FACE ANY KIND OF PROBLEMS?
Frode: Actually Sound Riot didn’t have to
pay anything for this contribution. We were lucky enough to know the guys
who recorded this stuff, so we owe them a big favor. On The next album
we plan to use the Orchestra in a wider scale, so then we would have to
talk Sound Riot into supporting something like that. I think it will be
worth it, because it’s so much more feeling in real instruments rather
than a sampled synth.
8. NORWAY IS MOSTLY KNOWN FOR ITS BLACK METAL
SCENE. CAN YOU TELL US A FEW MORE BANDS FROM NORWAY THAT PLAY POWER METAL
AND DESERVE OUR ATTENTION?
Frode: Well, you have our label-mates Gaia
Epicus as well; they made a good debut album, and will probably be even
better on the next. You also have a band called Rebellion Nation, which
is a few friends of mine, they are currently working on their demo, watch
out for these guys!! Of course you have bands like Guardians of Time &
Highland Glory as well, great bands! So you could say Norway finally is
producing more melodic metal as well, finally, hehe.
9. OLAF HAYER DID THE VOCALS FOR ONE OF YOUR SONGS.
CAN YOU TELL US IN WHICH ONE AND WHAT KIND OF PERSON HE IS? WHICH BAND
OF THOSE THAT HE SINGS IN DOES YOU LIKE MORE? DIONYSUS OR LUCA TURILLI
AND WHY?
Frode: Yes, Olaf does lead and backing vocals
on the track Gates Of Heaven, a real power metal hymn. Olaf is a great
guy, very helpful. I contacted him to ask him if he wanted to contribute
on the album, and the next day I got an answer from him, telling us that
he surely wanted to sing the song. I think he has one of the most interesting
voices in power metal today, and it was an honor to have him on our album.
10. AS A BAND YOU HAVE AN OPTIMISTIC ATMOSPHERE
IN YOUR SONGS. WHERE FROM DO YOU DRAW THIS GOOD MOOD, SINCE SADNESS RULES
THE WORLD MOST OF THE TIMES?
Kenneth: We always have good mood I think...
I do not agree that the sadness rules the world today... I think the word
"hope" is in all human beings. And "hope" makes my mood good!
11. DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? WHAT
SHOULD THE FANS EXPECT FROM A MEMORIZED DREAMS LIVE PERFORMANCE?
Frode: You can expect a band that is very
confident on stage, and you should get ready for some serious headbanging,
because this music rocks as hell live. We are currently planning some shows
home in Norway, but our dream is to go play abroad, so if someone who reads
this, he can book us if he wants; You can find our contact info on our
homepage!!
12. IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD
IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
Kenneth: If our music were an emotion, it
would have been happiness (I think)... And if it was a painting? Well...
It would have shown a white unicorn standing on a mountain made of ice-crystals...
This is the mountain of dreams... and you'll find it between two different
worlds... On the painting the two worlds fights each other, and we'll see
the guardian angels points at the unicorn who saves both of the worlds
from ruin... the two world becomes one and this world is a world full of
love, hope and glory....
13. WHICH WORDS DO YOU THINK COULD BEST DESCRIBE
YOUR MUSIC AND THE BAND IN GENERAL?
Kenneth: We are 7 hard-working musicians who
simply love to play our music. Our music is melodic power-metal with a
little bit of symphonic elements in it.... We simply like to call it Heavy
Metal, hehe.
14. WHICH IS, ACCORDING TO YOU, THE BEST AND WHICH
THE WORST PART IN YOUR MUSIC? WHICH IS YOUR TRADERMARK?
Kenneth: Well... It's up to you to tell us
the best and the worst, hehe. I love the good sound on the album and I
would say Cardinal Sin is my favorite song... And with the face that this
is our first album, we have yet to find our totally own style yet; this
will be more and more defined in the future. But with songs like Cardinal
Sin, Haloes and Wings, Gates of Heaven and Crimson Dream, you can hear
the diversity in our music; We have different keys in the key-hole, and
we are trying to find the right ones, hehe
15. WHICH ARE ACCORDING TO YOU THE MOST IMPORTANT
FEMALE MUSICIANS IN THE ROCK/METAL SCENE?
Frode: Well, there are some very talented
female musicians; I would have to mention Tarja from Nightwish, they defined
a new style when the broke into the scene. I also love the voice of the
Norwegian singer Vibeke Stene from Tristania, they are a fantastic band.
16. THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK YOU ANYTHING
AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
Well, first of all we would like to thank
you for you interest in the band, and a great review. For the rest of you;
watch out, Memorized Dreams is coming!!
