Mike Dimareli’s Article
is the Greek answer to all those European melodic power/progressive metal
bands we listen to everyday. “Fantasy” is an album filled with sentiments,
melodies and nice tunes and Mike, the band’s leader, offered to Behind
The Veil his personal vision in music. Let’s hear him out!
1.HELLO MIKE! MY CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR
BEAUTIFUL ALBUM "FANTASY"! HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT NOW THAT IT IS COMPLETE?
Mike:I Feel Wonderful that I finished this
album.
2.SINCE YOU ARE A NEW MUSICIAN, CAN YOU GIVE US
A SHORT BIO OF YOURS? IN WHICH METAL BANDS DID YOU PLAY BEFORE STARTING
A SOLO
CAREER?
Mike: The main bands I have been a member
of were "Perpetual" and "Celestial Ode" and we had many gigs together.
My interest on music started in the early age of seven and I recorded my
first album in the age of twenty-two.
3.I READ IN THE BIO THAT YOUR LABEL SENT ME, THAT
YOU WERE A MEMBER OF THE WELL KNOWN UNDERGROUND GREEK METAL BAND CELESTIAL
ODE. HAVE YOU RECORDED ANYTHING WITH THEM? WHAT ARE THEY DOING NOW? HAVE
YOU GAINED ANY EXPERIENCE BY PLAYING WITH THEM?
Mike:I didn't record really anything with
this band, I just helped them in a few gigs to perform their new material.
Right now "Celestial Ode" are in the studio and record their new songs,
that's the only thing I know. Concerning my experience, I can't see a big
change, but I believe we always get some experience from every band we
play in.
4."FANTASY" IS AN INSTRUMENTAL NEOCLASSICAL METAL
RELEASE. SO, IN WHAT KIND OF AUDIENCE DO YOU ADDRESS TO?
Mike:I mostly adress to people who listen
to power/melodic/prog metal.
5.CAN YOU NAME WHICH GUITAR PLAYERS HAVE INFLUENCED
YOUR STYLE? CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU ADMIRE IN SPECIFIC
IN EACH ONE?
Mike:My ideal guitarist is Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius),
and I admire so much his music and the feeling he has when he records his
songs. One more of my favourite guitarists is Yngwie Malmsteen, because
of his expertness and of his special way to perform his songs.
6.EXCEPT FOR ARTICLE, DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO
FORM ANOTHER BAND (SINCE YOU PLAY INSTRUMENTAL WITH ARTICLE) AND HOW DO
YOU THINK YOU WILL SOUND? HOW EASY IS IT FOR YOU TO COOPERATE WITH OTHER
MEMBERS?
Mike:Right now, I play with "Spyros Tserkezos"
(guitarist) and "Kathrin Belmpa" (vocals) who are basic members of the
band. We are all under the name of "Artical" and haven't changed the name
of the band. At the moment, I cooperate and work with the "Artical" members
only. I think the specific musicians are the right persons to work with.
7.ON "FANTASY" WE SEE BOB KATSIONIS COLLABORATING
WITH YOU. WHAT KIND OF PERSON IS HE? WILL YOU CONTINUE WORKING WITH HIMTHE
FUT IN URE?
Mike:Bob Katsionis is both a unique musician
and person and I will collaborate with him again, only this time with all
of my band members.
8.IN YOUR OPINION WHICH ARE THE BASICS THAT ONE
NEEDS TO LEARN ABOUT THE GUITAR IN ORDER TO REACH TO A SATISFACTORY LEVEL?
Mike:The first thing that a guitarist needs
is the sense of the right sound, plenty hours of studying, a great fantasy
and feeling. These are the most basics for me.
9.HOW DID YOU COOPERATE WITH THEODORE MOIRAS AND
ARE YOU SATISFIED BY SECRET PORT RECORDS SO FAR?
Mike:I gave my album to the Fanzine magazine,
which has a cooporation with Secret Port Records and from then Theodore
Moiras started his cooporation with me.
10.WHAT KIND OF EMOTIONS DO YOU WANT TO CREATE
TO THE LISTENERS WITH YOUR MUSIC? WHICH EMOTIONS DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE
USING ON YOUR NEXT ALBUMS? IS THERE A FEELING YOU THINK LACKS FROM YOUR
ALBUM?
Mike:I mostly want to create feelings of nostalgia,
nothing more specific. On our next work we want again our songs to be melodic
but this time they will be different, more powerful and epic. On my "Fantasy"
album the feelings are various, I don't believe there is something missing.
Besides, this must be judged from my audience. The only thing I'm not quite
happy is the production, nothing more.
11.DO YOU THINK THAT YOUR MUSIC COULD BE REPRODUCED
LIVE? WILL YOU DO ANY LIVE SHOWS? WHICH ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
Mike:I am sure it can be reproduced. I will
perform some of them on my gigs but this will happen only after our recordings
with my official band.
12.WHICH SINGER DO YOU THINK WOULD BE THE MOST
IDEAL TO INTERPRET YOUR MUSIC, IF YOU HAD LYRICS?
Mike:Timo Kotipelto on the top of all.
13.WHAT DO ARTICAL STAND FOR YOU? WHAT DO YOU
WANT TO MAKE TRUE THROUGH THIS SOLO CAREER? HAVE YOU SET ANY TARGETS YOU
WANT TO ACHIEVE?
Mike:My basic target on this band is to create
an album with lyrics on female vocals with Kathrin and after that to achieve
to play in different places and countries like Germany, Italy, Finland,
England. But that's not certain, we just really hope.
