Mortyfear
Mortyfear released with Achren a very interesting split CD offering to the fans of melodic death/thrash metal some very nice compositions. So, here we have them interviewed in order to reveal us all the secrets concerning the band...

1.FIRST OF ALL GIVE US A SHORT BAND BIO AND PRESENT THE BAND TO THE READERS…
Mortyfear was formed in 1999 by guitarist Tapio who had a few songs already written. Other original members were Sami (vocals), Olli (bass), Antti (guitars) and Jere (drums). After 3 demos Jere left the band and we were out of drummer for almost  one year. After the silence Anssi joined in and 4th demo was recorded. A few songs made their way to compilations and we played some gigs. At the end of 2003 Anssi decided not to play in the band anymore and Mortyfear silenced again for a few months. During the break Antti left the band too, but Tapio was still active and composed new songs. In the spring 2004 we found our new drummer Henri and we went to studio to record “let the fist do the talking”. Current line-up is Tapio (guitars), Sami (vocals), Olli (bass/backing vocals), Henri (drums) and latest add Juha (guitars). Tapio is our main composer, and finding Henri allowed him to make faster and more aggressive songs. Nowadays Mortyfear plays grinding death metal with trash and black metal effects.
2.YOU PLAY MELODIC DEATH/THRASH METAL WITH A RHYTHMICAL SECTION. I THINK IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE GREAT RHYTHMS AND CATCHY RIFFS, A GOOD RELATIONSHIP AMONG THE BAND MEMBERS IS MORE THAN IMPORTANT. SO, HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN?
Not difficult at all, because all of us have a strong passion to play, and of course we practise a lot. Most of us are also playing in other bands too, but Mortyfear is clearly the main project. Since the band was formed we have learned to know each other pretty well, and that way working together comes easier. You could say that band is an excellent therapy group, especially for its members.
3.IF YOU HAD TO REVIEW “LET THE FIST DO THE TALKING”, WHAT WOULD YOU MENTION IN THE REVIEW, TRYING TO BE AS OBJECTIVE AS POSSIBLE…
First I have to say that before recording sessions of “let the fist do the talking we had practised with the whole band two times. We also had to finish some lyrical details in the studio. Even though we didn’t have lots of time to practise new songs and studio time was very limited, all in all we are satisfied with our work. “Let the fist do the talking” sounds just like we wanted, tight and raw.
4.WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RELEASE A SPLIT CD AND NOT A FULL LENGTH? DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW SONGS READY? WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO RELEASE IN THE FUTURE?
We released “let the fist do the talking” originally as an ep, but afterwards Tapio’s  Lithuanian friend told him that Achren is willing to do a split cd and so we did it. We have now 7 new songs ready and if everything goes as supposed, our next release will be a full length album.
5.THE SPLIT CD IS WITH ACHREN. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THEM AND THEIR MUSIC?
We haven’t been in touch with Achren guys so it’s hard to say anything about them, but we like their hard and brutal music and their attitude seems to be great.
6.TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE MAIN TOPICS OF YOUR LYRICS. WHICH ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION?
Lyrics are full of hate, anger, violence and frustration. They are polemical to religions and religious people. Point is that if lyrics contain a message, it should be understood without questions. Some things are said more or less in parables due to arrangements etc., but we aim to keep our lyrics straight and understandable. If one of us gets a good idea, we’ll try to use it. Subject matter could be almost anything, and they are gushing out from the black depths of our sick minds. Mortyfear doesn’t collectively represent any philosophies or religions. Lyrics are used as an instrument, and their content isn’t always the most important point. Most of our lyrics are written by Sami.
7.WHAT’S THE BEST AND WHAT’S THE WORST PART IN YOUR MUSIC ACCORDING TO YOU? WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU NEED FURTHER IMPROVEMENT?
When Henri joined in, our musical line got into a new level because he was able to play faster than our former drummers. Our songs have always sounded like Mortyfear songs, because we haven’t been jumping from genre to another. Current line-up allows us to concentrate on essential, which is playing hard, fast and aggressive metal. There must of course be some things we could do some other way but we are not planning to change anything right now. If we get some constructive feedback, we will surely consider if it has a point.
8.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? WHY SHOULD THE METALLERS GO TO A LIVE SHOW OF YOURS? GIVE US SOME REASONS…
We’ll be doing a couple of gigs in Finland during summer –05 and negotiations about a tour in South America later this year are in progress. Seeing Mortyfear in action will blow up your ears and every bone in your terrified body gets crushed.
9.ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK YOU’VE GOT THIS FAR? WHAT WAS THE BEST AND WHAT THE WORST COMMENT YOU READ?
Any kind of feedback is nice to have ‘cause it tells that we have reached someone. Listeners have shared their opinions about our music on our website (www.mortyfear.com), and comments have been positive (except those religious bastards who never have anything reasonable to say). We have our own, very strong vision of how do we express ourselves through music.
10.HAS ANY LABEL REACHED YOU THIS FAR? WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A LABEL IN ORDER TO SIGN WITH THEM?
We have been I touch with some labels, but their offers have been unsatisfying in a way or another. In the future we will hopefully be signed to a label that is concentrated on bands like Mortyfear and has abilities to work on an international level. Nowadays many little labels are working hard on one or two bands, and meanwhile many promising independent acts aren’t even noticed. In the other hand, bigger companies have so many bands that their schedules are full for years ahead. The main reason for why we should get a contract is financial (it would be nice if someone else paid for the studio costs etc.) and of course marketing and promotion is more effective when it’s done by some official instance. Anyway, we will release the forthcoming new material independently if no label gets interested in us. We’ll just have to wait and see.
11.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
Surprisingly I must say HATE. Something bloody, raw and maybe little enthralling.
12.IF YOU COULD INVITE SOME FAMOUS MUSICIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR ALBUM, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
Chris Barnes from Six Feet Under because he’s got such a great, unique voice or Mika Luttinen from Impaled Nazarene ‘cause their early works have influenced our music.
13.LET’S SUPPOSE THAT SUDDENLY ELECTRICITY CEASES TO EXIST. WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN TO METAL MUSIC AND TO YOU IN SPECIFIC? WOULD METAL DIE OUT OR WOULD IT BE TRANSFORMED?
Well, if there was no electricity I think we could hire someone to generate it with an exercise bike. Metal music will never die and we’ll be grinding our filth forever, no matter what happens to the surrounding universe.
14.MELODIC DEATH/THRASH METAL IS VERY POPULAR THESE LAST YEARS. SO, WHY SHOULD THE FANS NOTICE YOU? WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO OFFER THEM?
We think that popular melodic metal is pretty far from our music. Mortyfear fulfils its own aggressive, primitive line and offers music that is not spoiled with trends.
15.HANK YOU! WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO HAVE?
    MORTYFEAR-boiling blood for breakfast!
