Nicta
Nicta is a band that deals
with the darkest side of human thoguhts and feelings and in proportion
to that, their music couldn't be happy or naive. On the contrary the musical
vision of Nicta calls us to embrace darkness...
1. HELLO! “LET THE DARKNESS WELCOME YOU” IS
ONCE AGAIN A GREAT WORK. HOW COME AND SO FAR YOU DIDN’T SIGN WITH A DECENT
METAL LABEL? I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT YOU DIDN’T HAVE ANY OFFERS…
To be honest I don’t know! :-) Probably they
didn’t like our music… We had a couple of contacts with German labels but
in the end they didn’t offer a deal because of economic problems (not sure
if it was true…). We were really unlucky!
2. ONE THING THAT I HAVE NOTICED IN YOUR NEW DEMO
IS THAT YOU HAVE RESTRICTED THE POWER METAL ELEMENTS AND YOU HAVE BECOME
MORE EXTREME. WHICH WERE THE REASONS THAT LED YOU TO MORE EXTREME PATHS
THIS TIME?
There weren’t particular reasons, just our
need to walk through darker paths. We didn’t plan this change and it was
pretty automatic because the compositions themselves became gradually more
extreme, month by month.
3. I HAVE THE SENSE THAT THE LYRICS ARE EVEN MORE
REALISTIC NOW. WHAT KIND OF THINGS DID YOU WRITE THIS TIME ABOUT AND WHY
ARE THEY SO PESSIMISTIC? DON’T YOU THINK THAT THERE IS A HOPE AFTER ALL
FOR THE HUMAN KIND?
Well, when I write lyrics I try to tell part
of a story that could carry some meanings/feelings, not just a chronicle.
I want the one that is listening to our music to interpret my lyrics using
his/her way of thinking: everyone should be able to build his personal
version of the story extracting some meanings/feelings. In this Mini-CD
I wrote about nobility (Millenary Order), our band (In Embryo), CIA mind
control experiments (Millenary Order), death (The Night I Fell) and the
attitude of many people to choose the hardest and the most painful way
to face things (Let Us Suffer). Mainly the lyrics try to emphasize ‘dark/bad’
feelings because I am fascinated by them… let me suffer! ;-) Of course,
there is always hope, but probably I don’t want to see it…
4. ONE SONG THAT I WANT TO STAND TO IS THE “MANCHURIAN
CANDIDATES”. HAVE YOU BEEN INSPIRED BY THE MOVIE AND THE BOOK FOR THIS
ONE OR HAS IT A SYMBOLISM? DO YOU PERHAPS MEAN THAT THE MODERN PEOPLE ARE
BRAIN WASHED AND CAN’T SEE THE TRUTH?
I’ve been inspired by a report I downloaded
from the Internet about the CIA mind control experiments. Yes, you interpreted
the lyrics in the same way I do: it is a symbolism because I really guess
that the most part of the people around the world is brain-washed and mentally
blind.
5. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE TERRORIST ATTACKS
IN ENGLAND? DON’T YOU THINK THAT THE ENGLISH GOVERNMENT HAD TO THINK FOR
THE SAFETY OF THEIR PEOPLE BEFORE STARTING THE WAR IN IRAQ?
What can I say? Terrorist attacks are vile
actions, missions accomplished by vile people. Every government has to
decide on which side it stands and the English one decided to support USA
and war. Anyway, I think they would have been attacked even if they hadn’t
taken part to the war…
6. ARE YOU AFRAID OF A TERRORIST ATTACK IN ITALY,
SINCE YOU ALSO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THIS WAR? DON’T YOU THING THAT THIS
WAR IN IRAQ HAS CREATED MORE TERRORISTS AND NOT REDUCED THEM?
Nowadays nobody lives in a safe place, we’re
all targets. About the Iraq war, who can be sure that terrorist attacks
wouldn’t have increased anyway? It’s hard to say something…
7. OK, ENOUGH WITH THE POLITICS. TELL ME DO YOU
HAVE ANY PLANS TO RELEASE A FULL LENGTH ALBUM IN THE NEAR FUTURE? WILL
YOU INCLUDE ANY SONGS FROM YOUR DEMOS?
We would like to release a full length in
the near future, but we need a label first! ;-) I’ve never thought about
what we should or could include in our full length from our previous releases
but I would like to include “The Darkest Inner Shadow” from Dark Rays Rip
the Light and almost all the tracks from Let the Darkness Welcome You.
8. HOW DID THE PRESS ACCEPT YOUR NEW DEMO? WHAT
KIND OF REVIEWS DID YOU RECEIVE? DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE IS AN ELEMENT
IN YOUR MUSIC THAT PASSED UNNOTICED FROM THE BIGGEST PART OF THE REVIEWERS?
The press accepted our new Mini-CD quite well
and we had several very good reviews (you can find them in our website).
Some other reviews weren’t so good but it’s something related to our music
style: our songs are pretty complex and unusual and some reviewers didn’t
like them so much. There aren’t elements that passed unnoticed but as someone
once wrote: “this is a kind of metal you are totally into or hate like
hell”.
9. IMAGINE THAT YOU HAVE A LOT OF MONEY TO CREATE
A VIDEO – CLIP. WHICH SONG WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO VISUALIZE AND HOW DO YOU
IMAGINE IT?
My favorite song is “Let Us Suffer” and I
would choose it to make a video clip. It’s hard to imagine the video set
but thinking a few minutes I would say: a man, a wanderer who left what
he had, family, love and friends running towards and through a desert,
a wasted land. During his journey he would think about what he left and
why he wasn’t able to keep his precious things… because he wants to suffer,
he needs to suffer, it’s part of his life…
10. HOW ABOUT LIVE-SHOWS? WILL YOU DO ANY TO PROMOTE
YOUR NEW DEMO? WILL YOU ALSO PLAY ABROAD?
We did some gigs in April and May to promote
our latest release but in Italy it’s quite difficult to find metal pubs
(if you don’t play covers) or festivals that let underground bands play.
The best way to promote our Mini-CD is the Internet: many people downloaded
our songs from our website and we found forums in Japan and Mexico where
some metal heads are discussing about our band and music. We’ve never considered
playing abroad.
11. IS THERE ANY NEW ELEMENT THAT YOU THINK OF
ADDING IN YOUR MUSIC IN AN UPCOMING RELEASE?
No, I don’t think we will add any new elements
but… who knows? Our composition process is pretty unexpected and the future
could preserve some news!
