Pagan's
Mind
Pagan’s Mind re-released
their first album called Infinity Divine and Behind The Veil had the chance
to interview Nik, the band's vocalist and forced him by violence (that's
a joke!) to reveal us some future plans.
1.Can you tell me why you have made this
re-release?
This album was originally released four years
ago. That time we didn't make the album as we'd like it to have been. We
had very small budget, the production was not so good, so now we
had the chance to make it as we were dreaming this album to be.
2.Have you made any changes on the the sound
of the oringinal album? What are the new elements the fans must take
notice of?
Actually we have revised “Infinity Devine”
in order to be heard as a modern album. There are also new arrangements
that are very obvious to the listener.
3.Can you tell me something about the artwork
in the cover? What’ the meaning of the hand that is holding the head of
an ancient Greek Statue?
Actually the cover is also revised, we used
more bright colours and we added depth to the edges of the objects. When
I created this album on my computer, I didn't think of something
sophisticated, something to have secret meanings. I just made a chaotic
concept with planets orbiting around a hand that is holding the head of
a statue.
4.There is a bonus track on this album “At
the Graves” and if I am not mistaken, this is a King Diamond Cover, why
did you choose this song and did King Diamond or his spirit participate?
(laughs) King Diamond was one of my favorite
performers, but Pagan’s Mind's infuences are mostly Queensryche and Dream
Theater. When we decided to made this tribute bonus track, we thought that
it would be oringinal for us to make a King Diamond Cover than make a Queensryche
or a Dream Theater cover. So I screamed loud and put the “spirit” of King
Diamond in this song. When I was younger I was screaming very often his
songs and I can say that I immitate very well his voice.
5.How long did it take you for the songwritting
and the mixing in the studios?
It didn't last long. We spent 5 days at the
studios in Denmark the first week of January 2004. They're the studios
that Helloween do their recordings.
6.Which are your inspirations to write music?
Are you doing the whole stuff by yourself or do the other members participate
in the songwritting process as well?
Almost everything, from book stories, fantasy
stories even some polyphone tones from mobile cell phones! Every member
of Pagan’s Mind participates in the song writting procedure and we do ourt
best at the rehearsals. There is very good chemistry between the members
of the band, we are all friends.
7.Do you have any spare time for hobbies? If
yes, what do usually do?
I don't have much time for hobbies, music
is also my hobby, when I have spare time I read some books, I go to a cinema
or hang out with friends, usual stuff.
8.Are you planning any live appearances? Will
we see you playing here?
We are thinking of our appearances in the
summer festivals and shows but nothing is schedueled yet. Nowadays we are
writing stuff for our new album, which will be the next step from our previous
release. We will be in 3 months at the studios and the album will be relesed
in April.
9.Thank you very much for the interview, I
hope to see you playing here in Rockwave festival in the Summer!
You are welcome Costas it was also my pleasure
and I hope we will come and play in Greece someday.
