Riddle of Meander is a
true black metal band having its philosophy and ideology deep and well
rooted! They don't follow trends or try to imitate anyone. Their sole purpose
is to create true and honest music, this and various other stuff is what
we discussed with the bands guitarist and vocalist, Chaosforos...
1. HELLO! SINCE RIDDLE OF MEANDER IS A NEW
BAND, GIVE US SOME INFO ABOUT YOU. WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU PLAY? WHEN
DID YOU FORM THE BAND? PRESENT THE CURRENT LINE-UP. DID YOU PLAY IN OTHER
BANDS BEFORE FORMING RIDDLE OF MEANDER?
The band was formed in 2003, but due to some
obstacles we faced, we started to compose again in 2004. We play black
metal influenced by both the first and the second generation. We write
our music wanting to have some meaning and not attempt to copy the current
styles. The line up is: Chaosforos - Guitars and vox, Unholy Desecrator
- Bass, Kerveros - Drums. Yes, we did playy in other groups, but nothing
worth mentioning.
2. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO COMPOSE AND PREPARE
YOUR FIRST DEMO? WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THIS PROCESS? DID YOU RECORD THE
DEMO IN A STUDIO OR IS IT HOME – MADE?
It took us about half a year to compose our
songs and a couple of days to record them. The thing we learned from this
process is that you must have patience to stick with your ideas! We recorded
the demo in a studio at Piraeus in early 2005.
3. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU DIDN’T LIKE IN “PANDEMONIC
HOLOCAUST” AND YOU’D LIKE TO IMPROVE ON YOUR NEW DEMO?
The length of the demo and the quality of
the production. Not that the quality is bad, but it could have been better.
4. IN THE LETTER THAT YOU’VE SENT ME ALONG WITH
YOUR DEMO, YOU WROTE THAT YOU WILL SOON RECORD YOUR SECOND DEMO. WHEN WILL
IT BE READY? HOW MANY SONGS WILL YOU INCLUDE? CAN YOU GIVE US SOME OF THE
TITLES?
Yes our second demo will be ready until September.
It will contain songs of fast and aggressive black metal, but it will also
continue having our occult and ritualistic style. No titles ready yet.
5. YOU HAVE QUIET A STRANGE NAME FOR A BLACK METAL
BAND. CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE YOU’VE DRAWN YOUR INSPIRATION FROM AND WHICH
IS THE MEANING OF IT?
Yes Riddle Of Meander is a strange name. The
inspiration came from the ancient Hellenic history which is full of various
occult and dark occurences. This strange aura is whwt we try to include
in our songs.
6. NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT THE LYRICS. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE
FOR THEM AND WHICH ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION?
Me, Chaosforos. I'm responsible for the lyrics
and the music too. I take the inspiration from sources like ancient history
(the occult side of it...), medieval times (rituals, conjurations), alchemy...
And I always try to explore my evil side, which is the truest part of human
existence.
7. CAN YOU TELL US IN A FEW WORDS, WHAT IS THE
THEME OF EACH THE TWO SONGS THAT YOU HAVE INCLUDED IN YOUR FIRST DEMO?
The "Pandemonic Holocaust" song has to do
with the unknown part of our history (Hellenic).The way of thinking, the
strong will... the will and power not only over humanity... Trying to reach
the highest level of superiority through the most important way. The way
to explore and trying to know your existence with methods that are behind
the veil... And I think it is better like that... The "Within Majestic
Shadows" song took the inspiration from A.CROWLEY and the book of law.
This concept will continue in our second manifestation.
8. THE BIGGEST PART OF THE BLACK METAL BANDS REFERS
DIRECTLY OR NOT TO SATAN. SO, I WANT TO KNOW HOW RIDDLE OF MEANDER CONCEIVE
THE IDEA OF SATAN. IS IT MORE OF A SYMBOL OR AN EXISTING POWER TO YOU?
I agree with you that many bands have a satanic
concept. All black metal bands even "pagan" black metal bands have to do
with it. IT is ancestral...it must be in the blood! And as we can read
from (Isis unveiled).."When we try to imagine, hear or feel him, it is
too often the reflection of our own wicked, depraved and polluted soul
that we see, hear and feel...".
9. IN THE BEGINNING BLACK METAL WAS CREATED TO
“HIT”, IN A WAY, THE ORGANIZED RELIGION. HOWEVER FROM A POINT ON MOST OF
THE BLACK METAL BANDS BECAME THE SAME FANATICS WITH THOSE THEY WERE AGAINST
TO. HOW DO YOU COMMENT ON THAT? IS IT PERHAPS POSSIBLE THAT BLACK METAL
LOST ITS PURPOSE?
Black metal is something deeper than destroying
and burning. I agree with you that a purpose was to hit the organised
religion. I believe that the best way is to ignore religions of any form.
ANY other way shows that deep inside you you believe in them. The war still
exist but goes underground.
