SANTHYR
Interviewing the best
band of ther world. That's what the guys proposed as an introduction to
this interview. Oohh and by the way...they have a request to the Mister
above..."When will you make them the top band of this planet?"..."Why not
of the whole universe?" I have to suggest...after all they play the best
heavy metal music ever. Fair isn't it? It sounds fair to me!
Seriously now, their
interview will please you and you won't get bored cause it's light and
filled with jokes that will keep you interested till the end.
1.GIVE US A SHORT BAND BIO. WHICH
IS THE CURRENT LINE UP?
1998 spring: SANTHYR was formed
by guitarists Petteri Karppinen, Riku Keränen and a singer Tomi Viiltola.
It was time to form a band which plays melodic 70´s&80´s
style Heavy Rock/Heavy Metal. Drummer Arto Ek and a bass player Jukka Pekka
"Spike" Kaikkonen joined shortly after that to the band.
1998 Autumn: At the end of 1998
"Spike" desided to leave the band, soon boys met Teemu Somero who was willing
to fill the hole "Spike" left behind.
2001 Autumn: At the moment SANTHYR
has gained quite a reputation in finnish underground scenes without promotional
help, finnish demosite Soundmen.net has been a great help for Santhyr to
be widely known in underground scenes. Soundmen.net consists nowadays way
over 1000 demobands in its site. Santhyr was the most loaded band in Soundmen
year 2001.
2002 Autumn: Bass Player Toni Salo
& Keyboardist Matti Pulkkinen have joined SANTHYR as new band members.
2.WHAT DOES SANTHYR MEAN? HOW DID YOU
THINK OF THIS NAME?
"son" & "thor" = "The son of
the thundergod", it would sound stupid if our bands name was "sonthor"
so it twisted in the form SANTHYR.
3.GIVE US YOUR OWN DESCRIPTION FOR
YOUR MUSIC? WHICH ARE THE BAND'S INFLUENCES? NAME SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED
ALBUMS.
Our music is 80´s style heavy
metal with attitude. If you ask about any influences we have to say that
Iron Maiden, Metallica, Gary Moore, Udo, Wasp, Kiss, Bon Jovi..List goes
on forever, don´t you ask anymore these kind of guestions... Haha..
4.HOW MANY RELEASES DO YOU HAVE? GIVE
US SOME GENERAL INFO ABOUT THEM AND ESPECIALLY TELLS US ABOUT YOUR LATEST
RELEASE.
We have released four demo-cd´s.
1. Power, beauty & grace
2. Master of the sea
3. After the war
4. Guiding light
All of these recordings are made
seriously to show to record companies that we are ready to rock´n´roll
and if that's not enough so be it.
5.WHAT ARE YOUR LYRICS TALKING ABOUT?
WHICH THEMES DO YOU LIKE TO "HURT" THROUGH YOUR LYRICS?
Lyrics are so versatile issue,
that it´s hard to say one or another thing about what are they about.
It depends so much about what day it is, emotions and how do you feel about
this fucking world in general.
6.HAVE YOU DONE ANY LIVE SHOWS? CAN
YOU DESCRIBE A TYPICAL SANTHYR LIVE?
Of course we´ve done live
shows, though nowadays we haven´t cause of the fact that our singer
lives in another city, but that is going to change in future. SANTHYR live
shows are much better than some trendbands depressing motherfucking playback
shows that are worth a pile of shit.
7.HOW MUCH HAS THE FACT THAT YOU WERE
THE MOST LOADED BAND IN SOUNDMEN.COM FOR THE YEAR 2001 HELPED YOU?
It´s soundmen.net. Only thing
soundmen.net has helped us, is that we ARE very known band in finnish UG-scenes.
Otherwise soundmen.net hasn´t done a shit for us.
8.WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE
UNDERGROUND SCENE OF YOUR COUNTRY? CAN YOU POINT OUT SOME INTERESTING NEW
BANDS?
It seem´s that finnish UG-scene
has a lot of potential bands and some of those will rise up! ALLIANCE is
the one and only band in finnish metal UG-scene that can be placed beside
SANTHYR at the moment. btw. Tomi Viiltola sings in ALLIANCE too.
9.WHICH IS THE WORST AND WHICH IS THE
BEST REVIEW YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
All reviews about our music have
been very positive. Only thing that is annoying about some motherfucking
band contest reviews is that "SANTHYR was the best band musically, but
their image was not fitting to the 2000 century". FUCK them, they are probably
dead now, OLD FOOLS!!
10.WHICH IS THE BEST PART IN YOUR MUSIC
AND IN THE BAND IN GENERAL AND WHICH THING DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD CORRECT?
WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU NEED IMPROVEMENT?
Best part of our music is that
it´s the best goddamn heavy metal in the world! No need to correct
anything!!

80´s of course, if we got
to visit 80´s, we would never come back to this time! We would not
miss anyfuckingthing from this crappy time, except for this interview.
