Satureye
Satureye is a new melodic
death/thrash tornado originating from Sweden, a country that surely knows
how to deliver great and catchy extreme metal dynamites! Although Satureye
is still a new band they have all needed to guarantee us many hours of
headbanging! Here we have Rogga, who tried to take us to a journey in the
band's temperament.
1.CONGRATULATIONS FOR "WHERE FLESH AND DIVINITY
COLLIDE"! IT'S A GREAT ALBUM FROM EVERY ASPECT, BUT I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT
YOU, THE CREATORS, THINK ABOUT IT NOW...
Well, thank you very much. We’re still pretty
satisfied with the album.
2.WHICH ARE YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS AS A BAND?
WHAT HAPPENED TO SATUREYE FROM THEY DAY THEY WERE FOIUNDED UP UNTIL NOW?
POINT OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF THE BAND.
We have not achieved that much yet, we’re
still pretty young as a band you know. We received ”Best demo of the year”
in CLOSE-UP MAG. which is the biggest metal mag. In Sweden. That’s a good
thing. The most important thing for us has to be the record deal. Now we
can spread our music worldwide.
3.NOW, LET'S TALK ABOUT THE MUSIC... YOUR SOUND
DWELLS IN THE MELODIC DEATH/THRASH METAL BRANCH. HOWEVER, I THINK YOU HAVE
THIS SPECIAL SOMETHING THAT COULD ALSO ATTRACT FANS FROM OTHER GENRES AS
WELL. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ON THAT?
Hopefully you’re right. People very often
call us ”old-school thrash”, but I think our music is more than that. We
listen to all kinds of music which we’re influenced by. We refuse to stand
still, we will always try to go further, but stay metal.
4.HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE THAT BELONGS
TO A TIRED (I LOVE THIS GENRE, BUT THE TRUTH IS ALWAYS THE TRUTH) BRANCH
TO COMPOSE MUSIC THAT BEARS THE BAND’S STAMP AND HAS CHARACTER? WHY DO
YOU THINK SOME BANDS CAN AND OTHERS CAN'T CREATE A PERSONAL PERCEPTION
IN THEIR MUSIC?
Bands who only listen to the same music as
they play. That’s the main reason I think. It’s a diffcult question, why
some bands have ”it” and some don’t. I think you’ve got to work hard on
making songs, not just play extremely fast all the time.
5.WHAT WOULD YOU ANSWER TO SOMEONE THAT WOULD
TELL YOU THAT YOU PLAY THIS KIND OF MUSIC ONLY BEAUSE IT IS VERY POPULAR
NOWADAYS? BY THE WAY, AREN’T YOU TIRED OF LISTENING TO THE 80% OF THE NEW
METAL RELEASES TO BELONG TO THE MELODIC DEATH/THRASH/BLACK METAL BRANCH?
DON’T YOU THINK THIS OVERPRODUCTION DOESN’T ALLOW SOME REALLY GOOD BANDS
TO STAND OUT?
Is it really that popular? We’re only trying
to write songs that we like. Can’t say that I listen very much to all these
new releases, they’re too many. You may have a point when you say ”overproduction”,
but if you want to make money you shouldn’t play this kind of music. I
haven’t seen any yet.
6.NOW THE LYRICS...I THINK YOU SHOULD TALK ABOUT
EACH SONG'S THEME. WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE LYRICS FOR? WHICH ARE THE
MAIN TOPICS OF YOUR SONGS?
The inspiration is mainly emotions. Anger,
confusion, loneliness etc. but also the world itself –war, religion and
people's average stupidness.
THE FALSE LIGHT –You can say it’s about religion,
about being fooled into a world of lies and empty promises. When you finally
find the truth, there’s only revenge that counts.
DESTINED TO WITHER –This one is about the the
new hopeless generation, surrounded by war, poverty and violence. Pretty
depressive.
THROUGH THE FACELESS CROWD –Pure fiction, make
up your own mind.
NOTHING IS FOREVER –About being betrayed by
someone you trust, anger, sadness and frustration.
THE WORLD IN MY HAND –Megalomania.
END –Once again, megalomania.
FAILURE FORESEEN –About leaving the earth,
just before total destruction.
FILLED WITH DUST –Into blackness.
WASTED GLORIES –This one is about heavy drugs,
which we’ve had a lot of in our small town recently. Just kids really,
dying of heroin-abuse. Also it’s about being worried all the time, for
someone you care about.
IN MERCURY –An average depression.
ABSOLUTION –Eh, you tell me…..
7.BY THE WAY, WHERE WAS THE ALBUM RECORDED? WHO
WAS THE PRODUCER? ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THE SOUND YOU ACHIEVED OR IS THERE
ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE TO CHANGE?
The album was recorded in Henkes (drums) studio,
so we did it ourselves. Henke worked his ass off for several months, he
did a really good job, so the album is produced by Henke/Satureye. Until
this day we’re pretty satisfied. The next one will be even better. There’s
a big chance that we’ll record the next album by ourselves again, but you
never know.
8.YOUR ALBUM IS TITLED “WHERE FLESH AND DIVINITY
COLLIDE”. THE MAIN IDEA OF THIS SENTENCE IS OF COURSE OBVIOUS, HOWEVER,
I’D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BY THAT… IT’S AN EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL AND
AT THE SAME TIME INTRIGUING TITLE…
That is what happens when we play our music,
in a mysterious way, or something.
9.TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE COVER ARTWORK
AND HOW IT’S CONNECTED TO THE LYRICS AND THE ALBUM’S TITLE. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE
FOR IT?
We made the cover art ourselves. Norsken (guitar)
did most of it, but we were all involved. There’s no connection to the
lyrics, we just wanted a good looking cover. No dragons!
10.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? WHAT
DO YOU HAVE TO OFFER TO THOSE WHO WILL ATTEND TO YOUR SHOWS?
No tours are booked yet. We’ll see how the
response will be on the album. It would be great and fun to go out and
play some tours, we haven’t played live as much as we want.
11.IF YOUR COULD ADD SOME ELEMENTS IN YOUR MUSIC,
WHICH WOULD THESE BE? IF YOU COULD REDUCE SOME, WHICH WOULD THEY BE?
Uh, hard question. We just try to make our
music as good as we can.
12.IF YOU COULD INVITE FAMOUS MUSICIANS TO PARTICIPATE
IN YOUR ALBUM, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
None really, we prefer to play our music ourselves.
A great producer would be something though, examples –Andy Sneap, Daniel
Bergstrand, Rick Rubin, Waldemar Sorychta.
13.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT
BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
Aaah, fucking difficult question. Emotion
–Paranoia. Painting –Controlled chaos.
14.WHAT IS, ACCORDING TO YOU, THE BEST AND WHAT’S
THE WORST PART IN YOUR MUSIC? IN WHAT FIELD DO YOU THINK YOU NEED FURTHER
IMPROVEMENT?
Don’t know, it’s like reviewing yourself.
I think it’s up to people like you. Well, you can always improve. We’re
trying.
15.WHICH WORDS DO YOU THINK CAN DESCRIBE YOUR
MUSIC BETTER? WHAT PHRASE CAN SUM UP IDEALLY THE BAND'S HISTORY AND ESSENCE?
Another hard question. The album title perhaps,
we’re just four headbangers.
