Scavenger
Ireland as a country is
not very famous for the metal scene that has. The thing is that if I didn't
write to this webzine most probably I would never have discovered the treasures
that this land hide. SCAVENGER is one of those trasure. A band that moves
between Power and Speed Metal and I am sure that their music will shake
your heads for a long time.
1.HELLO! "MADNESS TO OUR METHOD" IS A VERY
GOOD DEBUT ALBUM. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT, NOW THAT IT'S COMPLETE?

yeah im happy with the album the only problem
was the wait, it felt like forever but then again nothing gets done quick
if you want it done properly.
2.I READ IN YOUR BIO THAT EACH OF YOU WERE PLAYING
BEFORE IN OTHER BANDS. CAN YOU TELL US WHICH THOSE OTHER BANDS WERE AND
WHAT KIND OF METAL DID YOU PLAY? HAVE YOU RELEASED ANYTHING WITH THOSE
BANDS?

the other 3 guys noel, peter and niall were in
a band called disorder, they played heavy stuff like slayer,sepultura and
megadeth type stuff, they done a demo a couple of years back. i was in
a band called cisko pike which played a bit of everything from funky to
heavy we recorded 3 demos from 97-98, im also in another band playing drums
called “dyslucsic” it’s real low tuned stoner heavy shit with a bit of
a sick sense of humour to it, very aggressive stuff. its good to have something
like that to let rip from time to time. ive 2 demo eps done with dyslucsic.
3.YOU ENTITLED YOUR ALBUM "MADNESS TO OUR METHOD".
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY WITH THAT? IS IT PERHAPS TRYING TO DESCRIBE THE
WAY YOU COMPOSE YOUR MUSIC?

i suppose it is a way to describe the album, the
first demo cd we recorded was more straight forward and rocking, when we
went about doing this one we wanted more of a challenge so we wrote more
diverse songs which i presume ended up harder for people to listen to,
but we liked what we were doing. i think its always good to challenge yourself
and the rest of the band when writing material, it keeps everyone on their
toes.
4.BEFORE YOU RELEASED YOUR DEBUT ALBUM, YOU HAD
RECORDED A DEMO. WERE ANY OF ITS SONGS INCLUDED IN THIS OFFICIAL RELEASE
OF YOURS? IF YES, ARE THEY EXACTLY THE SAME LIKE THEY WERE ON THE DEMO
OR DID YOU CHANGE THEM?

no we didn’t re-record any tracks from the demo
for the album, we wanted a different cd to the first one, we had a different
style from the first few tracks we done so i don’t think the demo material
would 've fit. we just wanted a totally new album from the first recording.i
suppose the first demo cd would be pretty rare because theres only 500
copies made.
5.SINCE THE PROMO CD I RECEIVED DOESN'T HAVE ANY
LYRICS, CAN YOU TELL ME WHICH IS THE THEMATOLOGY OF EACH SONG AND WHO IS
RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM? HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR YOU A COMPOSITION TO HAVE
NICE LYRICS BESIDES HAVING GOOD MUSIC?

the lyrics end of things is usually peter and
niall, the two guys come up with the ideas and write the lyrics and then
they might rearange the vocals for a riff or harmonies so noel would usually
help out there. or sometimes vice versa the riff might not suit a good
vocal idea so another riff might be used to better effect.
6.PERSONALLY, I BELIEVE THAT A DRAWBACK OF YOUR
ALBUM IS THE PRODUCTION, BECAUSE IT IS A LITTLE BIT DIM AND LESSENS THE
POWER OF YOUR SONGS. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT?

i think production will always be a drawback to
a band when it’s a case of money and time. when you don’t have the money
and time to get the absolute best you can its always gonna haunt you. so
if we make a bit of money on this cd we should get a good production for
the next recording, ha ha.
7.NOW, MUSICALLY I THINK THAT YOU BALANCE SOMEWHERE
IN BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN AND THE U.S. METAL SCENE. YOU HAVE THE MELODY OF
THE EUROPEAN POWER METAL AND THE AGGRESSIVENESS OF THE BAY AREA THRASH.
DO YOU AGREE? WHICH BANDS DO YOU THINK HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE?

we all listen to different types of music but
mainly metal. for me anyway it would be more darker heavier music like
goatwhore, but then again i’d listen to steely dan or kevin gilbert.the
influnces for me are infinate, you can look towards anything or anyone
for inspiration. i suppose the other band members would be the main source
of inspiration with song writing, if you have a good friendship within
the band its probably the best influence. you can then feed off that to
get a good vibe going when playing, especially when playing live.
8.WHGICH ELEMENTS AND EMOTIONS IN YOUR MUSIC DO
YOU LIKE TO EVOLVE MORE ON YOUR FOLLOW UP ALBUM AND WHY?

i personally would like to get a bit more aggression
into some of the songs, at the moment weve got a few new songs were working
on and its sounding pretty good so far.
9.WHICH IS THE BEST COMPLIMENT YOU RECEIVED FOR
YOUR MUSIC AND WHICH REVIEW YOU CONSIDER AS THE MOST UNFAIR FOR YOUR ALBUM?

a couple of the reviews memtioned that we were
very solid with our rhythm section which was nice, its something we always
kept getting better at when writing songs. i suppose the only real criticism
in the reviews that stood out was the production, but as i said money and
time can get you that bit further.
10.YOU COME FROM IRELAND, A COUNTRY WITH A SMALL
METAL SCENE, HOWEVER FAMOUS FOR ITS QUALITY. CAN YOU TELL US ANY OTHER
BANDS THAT YOU THINK DESERVE OUR ATTENTION?

yeah its funny that ireland gets overlooked when
it comes to metalbands, theres a good few bands that deserve to go places,
the swarm, hexxed, carraig,dyslucsic, devilmakesthree to name but a few.
the metalireland website is good for getting to know bands or advertising
and finding out about whats going on around the country with gigs and local
band releases and so on. its website for the metal community.
11.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT
BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
