Shatterpoint
Shatterpoint from Canada continue the good thrash metal tradition of the country. Their music is a combination of traditional and modern metal elements that capture the interest of the listener from the first moment. But who are the persons behind the band? Well, this interview try to answers to that question...

1.HELLO! MY CONGRATULATIONS FOR “CONSEQUENCES” IT'S A VERY GOOD ALBUM! DO YOU BELIEVE, NOW THAT IT IS FINISHED, THAT THE FINAL RESULT IS AS YOU EXPECTED TO BE? WHY DOES THE CD ONLY HAVE 6 TRACKS? WHY DIDN'T YOU ADD MORE?
Greg Wright- the responce we have had so far in the international metal scene has been amazing, we have had all kinds of amazing reviews, everyone is really liking the Cd and what we are all about. We couldnt be more happy with how things are going for the band. The only thing which people want from us is more songs, and the reason we only did 6 was because we wanted a nice short and sweet demo, which would kinda let everyone know what we are all about, now it seems everyone wants more songs which i guess is a great thing. We are always writing new songs and we has a ton of awesome shit that we will record soon and add to the cd as bonus tracks. We will probobly add 2-3 more originals to Consequences and maybe one cover just for fun. we have been playing around with a few covers, so we may just pick one and slap it on!!!
2.WHEN YOU REALISED THAT YOU COULD COMPOSE YOUR OWN SONGS, HOW EASY WAS IT FOR YOU TO FIND EACH OTHER AND FORM THIS BAND?
GW: well the thing about our band is that we have all been best friends since about grade 3, so as we grew we all took a liking to metal, starting with megadeth, white zombie and then just growing and deveolping more tastes for crazy music. When we were about 13 we all kinda decided to pick the instrument that interested us the most, we practiced for about 5 years till we were ready to form a bandand the rest is history, 3 years later we are all still practicing, kicking ass at shows and flogging our cd to whom ever may be interested.
3.  IN OUR MODERN WORLD PEOPLE ARE AFRAID TO MEET WITH EACH OTHER AND MAKE FRIENDSHIPS. DO YOU THINK THAT FORMING A BAND HELPS YOU TO BECOME MORE SOCIALIZED AND FRIENDLY, ESPECIALLY IN THE BIG CITIES LIKE TORONTO? DO YOU BELIEVE THAT PARTICIPATING IN A BAND MAKES YOU BETTER PERSONS?
GW. yeah id say it helps you meet people for sure. It kinda introduces you to other musicans and to the entire music scene. I have learned alot from other bands about how to conduct yourself as a band and a band member, like to be supportive of others. Nothing is worse than playing a show with a bunch of cocky assholes who dont even wanna talk to other bands, or even stick around to listen to your music, that shit really pisses me off. You go much further if you make good contacts and develope a good reputation.

Shane Drake: I agree, I think it definatly help meet other bands and form relationships, we have made some great friends in the short time we have been playing shows. The endorpins, a local Toronto band is one great example.

4 MUSICALLY NOW, YOU REMINDED ME OF BANDS LIKE SACRED REICH, ANNIHILATOR, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES AND NEVERMORE. ARE ANY OF THOSE GROUPS AMONGST YOUR INFLUENCES? WHICH OTHER BANDS AND ARTISTS HAVE INFLUENCED YOU AND IN WHICH WAYS?
SD - Well, slayer has influenced us to just wanna kick ass much ass as possible, then you have bands like megadeth, whos songs are put together so well, and one of my personal favorites is Chris Barnes because his vocals speak for themselves.

GW- I have a ton of influences, guys like Kirk Hammet, Jeff Waters, Zakk Wylde, Dimebag, have all pushed me to get better and better, when you have people you idolize, you automatically wanna be just like them ( not nessessarily sound like them), especially when your younger, I think these guys have really helped me get to where I am today with respect to guitar playing, (where ever the hell that is, ahahahha)

Jeremy Baxter - There are definatly some drummers that have influenced me, guys like Paul Bostaph, Dave Lombardo, Lars Ulrich, Vinnie Paul, .. etc the list goes on and on.

5.SOMETHING THAT IS VERY CHARACTERISTIC OF YOUR MUSIC IS THAT YOU SOUND VERY 80S AND AT THE SAME TIME MODERN. HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO ACHIEVE THIS? DO YOU THINK THAT YOUR MUSIC CAN UNITE THE OLD GENERATION OF METALHEADS (80S METAL FANS) WITH THE NEW ONES?
JB- we appreciate all sorts of metal from every time era, we would like to bring back the good old shit but at the same time keep it new and modern without sounding dated.

SD- I belive that our music could help unite the old school with the metal of today. Becuase we take the old school riffing and add tons of new elements from other genres like death metal vocals here and there and hardcore breakdowns etc.

6.I CONSIDER YOU A THRASH METAL BAND AND A THING I LIKED A LOT IS THAT YOUR LYRICS HAVE THIS REBEL, REVOLUTIONARY, PUNKISH STYLE AND ATTITUDE AND YOU SPEAK THE TRUTH WITHOUT HESITATIONS. DON'T YOU AGREE THAT METAL MUSIC SHOULD BECOME MORE REVOLUTIONARY, SINCE THE BANDS LATELY IN ORDER TO SELL MORE CDS MAKE COMPROMISES AND ARE AFRAID TO SAY WHAT THEY BELIEVE? COMMENT ON THIS PLEASE...
GW- I think that there are alot of great bands out there, and recently I havent seen too many sellouts, or bands who have obviously compromised their style. look at damageplan for example, they have a new fresh sound, and they have definatly not held back, considering they have a sound titled "FUCK YOU".
7.SINCE WE 'VE TALKED ABOUT THE LYRICS, TELL ME IN A FEW WORDS THE THEMATOLOGY OF EACH SONG INCLUDED IN YOUR DEBUT ALBUM. WHAT GAVE YOU INSPIRATION TO WRITE ABOUT EACH SONG?
GW-  pleasure the pain - "on my way to pleasure the pain" easing oor hiding your pain, through various things, ie alcohol.
Crashing down -  song about the politics of 9/11.
Ended By silence - song about a person who feels insignificant, and comes alive as he takes the lives of others. Kind of a song about serial killers, who free themselves by killing others.
Consequnces -  the theme of the album artwork, basically a song about drug abuse, no one  in the band has physically dealt with these issues, however we have all seen what drugs can do you a persons life. and this song is a first person account of the mind of an addict.
When I Die- a song about making something of your life and trying not to drift through life as an insignificant being.
No mans land - a song that deals with the Real, reality of modern war, not political just something to think about.
8.I 'VE SEEN THAT YOU DID SOME LIVE SHOWS WITH FAMOUS BANDS. HOW WAS IT? WHICH IS THE ONE YOU REMEMBER THE MOST AND WHY?
GW - those shows were cool, one of the bands we played with were not very cool, but   hey maybe they were having a shit day, you never know. it was a great experience. I would have to say that our show with behemoth was my most memorable.

SD - I think our first home show in brampton (our home town) was my favorite, cause it was packed and had a fuckin crazy pit all night.

9.LATELY IT SEEMS THAT SEPTEMBER HAS STARTED BECOMING THE MONTH OF TRAGEDIES. AFTER THE 11TH OF SEPTEMBER WE HAD THE TERRORIST ATTACK TO THAT SCHOOL IN RUSSIA, WHERE MANY INNOCENT CHILDREN LOST THEIR LIVES. WERE YOU INFORMED ON THE INCIDENT? HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT?
GW- Yeah I saw it on the news as the events happened. It was real sad and kinda showed again that the states aren't the only ones involved against stopping terrorism. again i feel for those who have suffered loss.
10.NOW A SILLY QUESTION : WHICH OF THE FAMOUS HORROR MONSTERS WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE AND WHY?
JB - Pinhead, because there is a fine line between pleasure and pain.

SD- Freddy, because then the sound track in my dreams would be deicide.

GW- I pick GARY SINESE from APOLLO 13, and i dont care if hes not in a horror movie, that guys saved those guys with his genius air filter and what not, there thats my answer. Sinese rules.

11.I READ IN YOUR BIO THAT YOU LOVE DRINKING BEER. SO, WHICH ARE THE BASIC COMPONENTS A BEER NEEDS TO HAVE IN ORDER TO BE EXCELLENT IN YOUR OPINION?
    GW- Alcohol

    JB- Big Cans

SD- anything that pours through a funnel.

12.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
GW- obviously our album cover ahahah.

SD- anger turned into ass kicking.

    JB - the moaning face.

13.IF YOU COULD INVITE FAMOUS MUSICIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR ALBUM WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
SD-  Chris Barnes for some death vocal trade offs.

    JB- Tom Araya.

GW- A Greg, Wylde, Hammet triple solo.

14.WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS MONIKER? DO YOU WANT TO SUGGEST SOMETHING OR YOU SELECTED IT BECAUSE IT'S A NAME THAT REVEALS POWER AND ENERGY?
GW- I think it is a bad ass name, and metal bands need bad ass names, if we were flowerpoint, we would make less of an impact. (with the guys anyway)
15.THANK YOU! THESE LINES ARE YOURS, ADD WHAT YOU WANT...
