SINOCENCE
-
Sinocence
is a difficult band to categorize. Sinocence is the combination of sin
and innocence, a multi dimensional name foa multi dimensional music.
After all life is not that simple, is it?
1.FIRST OF ALL GIVE US A BRIEF BAND
BIO AND PRESENT THE BAND TO THE READERS.
-
Moro:Vocals/Guitar, Anto:
Lead Guitar, Kaxxx: Bass Fergie:
Drums
-
Anto:The band was formed about 3 years
ago, Moro and Fergie were the first to jam and after some line-up
changes at the start we’ve come to settle on the way we are.
2.TO BE HONEST YOUR CD WAS A PROBLEM
TO ME. I LISTENED TO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN BUT I WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY INFLUENCES!
YOU HAVE AN EXTREMELY WEIRD, ORIGINAL AND UNIQUE SOUND! CONGRATULATIONS
FOR THAT BUT IT CAN BE A PAIN IN THE NECK FOR US! ANYWAY, PLEASE GIVE US
A DESCRIPTION FOR YOUR MUSIC AND NAME SOME OF THE BAND'S INFLUENCES.
-
Anto: Thanx for that!…..the first
song was kind of an accident, we originally just wanted to write a short
piece of music to use as an intro before going onstage but when we got
into the studio we had a bit of time to fuck around with different sounds
and effects so ended up doin some weird shit on that one.
-
Moro: Musically we all
come from VERY different backgrounds and often frown on one another’s taste
in metal/rock music. However in saying this we have found common
ground in many of the same genres. When talking about what influences
the sound and the songs I must stress that it delves much, much deeper
than hearing bands that we would like to sound like. Some of the
greatest influences over our style and music lie at the centre of our lives
and the attitude towards music where we live. We look to each song
as a project that must be perfected to take the listener on a journey and
clearly accomplish our feelings on what the song should communicate for
ourselves instead of regurgitating some shit that was popular that year.
For example, if each song topic was a movie script then the music must
soundtrack that to achieve the required mood. As we have all played
in bands over the years and have been in touch with music from Zeppelin
through to Manson. We have developed a sound that gives us a lot
of room to manoeuvre and agree on completely. Heres a few influences
that we can agree on:- Megadeth, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Skid Row,
Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Trouble, Nuclear Assault, Soil, Drowning Pool,
White Zombie, Deth, Metallica, AC/DC, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, System of
a Down, American Headcharge, Soundgarden. This list is endless and as varied
as the music we listen to.
3.WHICH ARE THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN
"THANK GOD FOR SATAN" AND YOU PREVIOUS RELEASE "EMBRACING DECADENCE"? ARE
YOU SATISFIED WIHT "THANK GOD FOR SATAN"? TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT IT
(WHERE IT WAS RECORDED, HOW LONG IT TOOK YOU, WHO WAS THE PRODUCER, ETC.).
-
Moro: “Thank God For Satan” introduced
new members to the band with a greater passion and drive behind them so
TGFS was set to become a more experimental work than Decadence. Satan
achieved the dark eerie feel to it that we had set out to do which separated
it from Decadence in that respect. However Decadence was though recorded
more in a live situation rather than conventional studio method still remains
able to stand up alongside TGFS. Decadence was the birth of SINOCENCE
and the songs painted a picture of certain aspects of my life to that point
that I felt the need to express and that the rest of the band could relate
to. The Decadence and TGFS CD’s have different themes as Decadence
maintains a slightly Punk attitude in where it expresses anger towards
the trends of social behaviour I seen, ‘Satan’ becomes a little deeper
and closer to HOME with its theme. Because of the experimental side
to TGFS and the fact that this was something we had never tried before
we took our time playing with different ideas and voice-overs etc.
-
Anto: To be honest we got a little
more studio time than we originally paid for and our producer Tom (Pink
Pig Productions) kept pushing us to try out new things. A lot of
late nights!! We were getting woke up at 4am…. “Right you’re recording
now”, it was like fuck this I just want to go to bed!!!!
4.WHERE ARE YOUR LYRICS REFERRING TO?
WHAT INSPIRES YOU AND WHAT CAN TAKE THE INSPIRATION AWAY FROM YOU? TELL
US A FEW TIHNGS ABOUT EACH SONG.
-
Moro: My lyrics refer to subjects,
topics or experiences that have interested me. Whatever the song
its subject has been something big enough to move me to write about it.
I take inspiration from the want to make people relate to and understand
what I am saying. Im not so sure if losing the inspiration to write
applies here in any way for no matter what the mood songs can express it.
SIN666 The riff for Sin666 came from the title chant …..SIN
6 6 6, which has kinda been our motto that was carried on from Decadence.
If you listen carefully the voiceovers are organised in such a way that
they tell a story. The acoustic outro has been included to leave
the listener hanging. (its also the tune at the start of MARY D played
through a synth modulator) its to suggest suspense. The new material is
dealing with some very cool subjects, with a very different theme and approach.
-
ALONE WITH THE DEVIL
is like the CD title nothing to do with the devil literally. It uses
its title to emphasise the fear and horror on a human level of the story
it tells. Based on a true event in which a world war two veteran
after the war suffers waking dreams and disorders that leads him to strangle
his wife in his sleep and have no recollections.
-
MARY D. (Beginning
with the music box because the character had one in reality and its always
been something that reminds me of her)Expresses my own opinions and thoughts
on a matter dealing with someone who has been in my life from the beginning.
It tells the story of how jealousy and lacking morality can isolate an
individual.
-
VAMPIRE. Is complicated
in its approach as its lyrics come from first and third person views.
It tells the story of a woman married to an alcoholic. It describes
her struggle and the fear her children suffer from witnessing an abusive
relationship. Also throughout the song we compare the alcoholic to
a vampire who feeds off his families suffering. The title however
comes from Anton Laveys Satanic Bible. Not so much of a commandment
than a warning against the Psychic Vampire – an individual who thrives
from draining another’s confidence and energy.
-
SMASH THE ILLUSION. (Remix)
tells about the shallow man who merely exists. Who lacks drive and
ambition and leads a conventional life works a factory job. (the riff is
kind of mechanical and relates to that of factory/machine like environment)
and is ruled by routine. The song advises him and follows him through
until his breaking point.
-
AMERICAN OD. If
you can have a love song and express your feelings for someone who plays
a big part in your life then OD is the extreme opposite. Written from first
hand experience and with Anto and myself in relatable situations (with
plans to leave for America) he wrote the music and I the lyrics to simply
express our feelings on our relationships at the time. Times are a little
brighter from then.
5.HOW HAVE YOU SELECTED THIS BAND NAME
AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN? IS IT CONSISTED OF 2 WORDS?
-
Moro: I was scrolling through an old
junk mail message and scrolled passed the word sinnocence. Instantly
thought it was cool and went to check out the link. Arriving on a
Gothic porn site hosted by a young lady going by the name of sinnocence.
I emailed her and explained I liked the name and wanted to use it and she
replied from Chicago expressing that she was flattered. Three years
on sinnocence…or Tris as we now know her has provided the cover artwork
for the DVD for “Alone with the Devil”(which is a picture of her – the
original sinocence). In saying that the combination of sin and innocence,
we did take on for ourselves and push what it meant to us, which was the
dark, light – ying yang requirement for balance theme. EQUALIBRIUM! And
all that!
6."THANK GOD FOR SATAN"... I FOUND
THE TITLE EXTREMELY CLEVER. WHY SHOULD WE THANK GOD FOR SATAN THOUGH? IS
IT A METAPHORE? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SUGGEST?
-
Moro: There are so many levels I could
answer this one, and all of them would probably pass as a viable answer….Theres
a biblical approach but that would leave you thinking that we were fuckin
devil worshippers or something though Satan has some of the coolest imagery!
The devil has come to represent this genre of music and we have Christians
to thank for that. After all they were the ones good enough to burn
our records, increase our sales and sell us on shock value. So to all the
Christians out there that banged on about us music lovers being demons
from the depths of hell, I never thought I'd hear myself say it, but thanks
for being the assholes you are…much appreciated. Thank God for Satan.
7.YOU'VE DONE QUITE MANY LIVE SHOWS
IN THE PAST. WHAT ABOUT NOW? WILL YOU PERFORM LIVE OUTSIDE THE IRISH AND
U.K. BORDERS? DO YOU REMEMBER ANY FUNNY OR WEIRD INCIDENTS OCCURING TO
YOU WHILST YOU WERE PERFORMING LIVE?
-
Anto:We would love to play outside
of the UK and Ireland but its hard when your doing all these stuff completely
self financed! It’s something that we’ve always wanted to do.
We WILL do it but it will be next year before it will be set-up.
If any local bands want to get in touch with us we would be interested
in trading gigs. We did that in London it worked out really well, opened
the sence up a bit more.
-
Moro:In England we were doing a warm
up show the night before a big club gig we thought we’ll play about an
hour or so, just the songs that we need and we’ll be ok…..no chance!! They
were really into it and insisted we play for another hour!!!…..like really
insisted to the point we thought we were going to get lynched if we didn’t
go back on. We said to them we would have to repeat some songs to stay
up that long but they were like FUCK THAT!! just play so we played everything
we had, stuff we were working on, ideas, everything!!! It was nuts but
it really freed us up and we got trying out new stuff so it turned really
well and we got paid more than we thought!
8.WHICH IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE
LYRICS AND THE COVER ARTWORK?
-
Anto:The cover artwork is another play
on the religion theme, the light and dark. It’s the face of a statue of
the Madonna but inverted. It’s the Madonna shown in a different light and
makes the image look really menacing.
9.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO A FAN TO CONVINCE
HIM BUY YOUR RELEASE INSTEAD OF SOMETHING ELSE?
-
Anto:Do you like your knee caps the
way they are?
10.WHICH DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST PART
IN YOUR MUSIC AND WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU NEED FURTHER IMPOROVEMENT?
-
Anto:The song writing hands down!!!
TGFS was basically a demo so we need a lot improvement on the production
side of things, your always going to pick holes in your own stuff so next
time we’ll be going into the studio with a bit more money and a better
focus on the overall sound.
11.YOUR MUSIC IS EXTREMELY WEIRD. SO
IF IT WAS AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE? IF IT WAS A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD
IT SHOW?
-
Anto:Fucked if I know!!!…………..something
dark and frustrated
-
Moro:Anger!
12.IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO MEET THE
CREATURE THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE, WHTA WOULD YOU LIKE TO ASK HIM?
-
Anto:How the fuck did you let Skid
Row break up???!!!!!!!!!!!!
13.YOU ARE GRANTED ONE WISH. WHAT WOULD
YOU DO WITH IT?
-
Moro: Fix our Fuckin website!!!! (will
be up and running again soon www.sinocence.com)
14.IF YOU COULD TRAVEL IN TIME WHICH
HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHAT WOULD YOU MISS THE MOST
FROM OUR TIMES?
-
Anto:Why me!!! Ancient Rome or Egypt
most likely, just love that period, the religions and temples n shit.
15.WHICH IS MAN'S BIGGEST TEMPTATION?
16.WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW
TO HAVE?
17.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK
YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
-
Anto: PLUG time!!! We’ve
just shot a video for “Alone with the Devil” and have just released it
on DVD with two different versions of the Vid…..if anyone would like to
order it or any of our Cds just e-mail the band. P&P
