SOULLESS
HEART
Lately I had the luck to
listen to a lot of goo thrash metal bands and that honour the legacy that
the 80's left to us. SOULLESS HEART, although are not just a banch of romantics
of that era, but they experiment with their music. If by any chance you
listen to their music you will understand what I mean...
Here I would like to
thank Alexander Schreibermanager of the band who without his help this
interview could not be possible...
1. HELLO!
THE SPLIT- CD YOU DIDWITH SADOK IS VERY GOOD. NOW, I 'D LIKE YOU TO GIVE
ME A SHORT INFO REGARDINGTHE BAND'S HISTORY AND WHAT KIND OF PERSONS ARE
THE BAND'S MEMBERS?
-
Dimitry: The band exists in the actual
line-up for about one and a half year. We met together on the internet
cause we all were searching a band to make music. I still go to school,
Erik is on university studying physics, Wladimir studys Computer science
and Florian goes to school, too.
2. I THINK THAT EXCEPT FOR THIS SPLIT-
CD, YOU HAVE ALSO RELEASED TWO MORE ALBUMS. AM I RIGHT? WHICH ARE THEMAIN
SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES AMONG THEM AND THE SONGS CONTAINED INTHIS
SPLIT RELEASE?
-
Dimitry: Unfortunately, there are no
main differences, cause the songs contained in the split are only a combination
from the first two cds. The first cd was an ep, containing six songs. Out
of this period are songs like "mights of evil" or "prisoner of the night".
Our second release was the maxi-cd "maybe you die" containing three songs.
We still got no deal so everything (studio, production) was payed by us
and our management.
3. ALTHOUGH YOUR MUSIC CAN BE DESCRIBEDAS
TRADITIONAL THRASH METAL, I 'VE NOTICED IN SOME OF YOUR COMPOSITIONSA TENTION
FOR EXPERIMENTATION. AM I RIGHT ? WILL YOU CONTINUE EXPERIMENTINGSNF EVOLVING
YOUR SOUND OR DO YOU WANT TO KEEP IT AS TRADITIONAL AS POSSIBLE?
-
Wladimir: We don't want to play "normal"
thrash metal, this description for our music came from the magazines. Soulless
Heart want to make versatile metal and we like to make experiments. The
singing is more like black metal, the guitars are very melodic, so I think
that's a good combination.
4. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE OTHER GROUPSADOK?
IS THERE ANY SONG OF THEIRS YOU 'D LIKE TO HAVE COMPOSED?
-
Wladimir: No, no our style is to different.
But the music is good. Unfortunately they got no drummer so it sounds a
little bit "sterile".
-
Dimitry: (laughing)Would be interesting
to know how it sounds, if SADOK would cover a song of us.
5. SOULLESS HEART AS A NAME HAS A CONTRADICTION,
SINCE SOME PEOPLE MATCH THE HEART WITH THE SOUL. SO, WHAT DO YOU WANT TOSAY
WITH IT AND HOW DID YOU CHOOSE IT?
-
Dimitry: I don't think that is a contradiction.
Normally heart and soul are together, so the people believe. A good person
has got the soul in his/her heart. A heart without a soul shows the emptiness
of mankind.
6. YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO COVER AN IRONMAIDEN
SONG "ACES HIGH". WHY DID YOU CHOOSE IT AND WHAT NEW ELEMENTS HAVEYOU ADDED
IN THE ORIGINAL VERSION? WHICH OTHER BANDS WOULD YOU LIKE TO COVER?
-
Dimirty: We decided to cover "aces
high" because we all like the song very much. One of the best MAIDEN songs
all time. Our version is faster, sounds more aggressive.
-
Florian: More double- bass
-
Wladimir: Yeah, it's an interpretation
how "aces high" would sound in SOULLESS HEART style. But it was an experiment,
too. Usually we don't like to do covers but this cover was so great that
we decided to put it on cd. Sometimes at the end of a gig we play a very
funny cover- version of BRITNEY SPEARS song "Hit me baby, one more time".
The crowd loves it but we would never release it on a cd.
7. WHERE ARE YOUR LYRICS REFFERINGTO?
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE LYRICS AND WHAT CAN TAKE THE INSPIRATIONAWAY
FROM YOU?
-
Dimitry: I get mostly inspired from
themes like suffering, wars, inner conflicts. Most songs of SOULLESS HEART
are based on these themes.
8. IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHATWOULD
IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
-
Dimitry: If it was an emotion it would
be a depression or something like apathetic. If our music would be a painting
you could see a desert of stones and spiders. Nice imagination (laughs).
9. WHICH IS, ACCORDING TO YOU, THEBEST
AND WHICH THE WORST PART IN YOUR MUSIC? WHICH IS YOUR TRADEMARK?
-
Erik: We got no bad parts in our music.
-
Wladimir: I think so. the best part
in our music and our trademark too is our versatile style.
10. WHICH WORDS DO YOU THINK COULDBEST
DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC IN GENERAL?
-
Dimitry: Oh, what a hard question.
I don't know. Maybe the aggression of the songs combined with the melody.
We have no fear to experiment a lot with our music.
11. IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE, WHICHPERIOD
WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE?
-
Erik: The time of the hippies, I think
so '68 or '69. Good music, free sex and free marihuana (laughs). and the
stoneage. I would like to eat a mammoth.
-
Wladimir: the wild wild west!
-
Florian + Dimitry: the medieval...
12. NAME SOME OF THE BANDS THAT HAVEINFLUENCED
YOU MOST AND SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED ALBUMS. WHICH NEW BANDSDO YOU THINK
DO A GREAT WORK IN THE UNDERGROUND?
