Soulreaper
Soulreaper is a band whose
music will appeal to all brutal metallers in general, cause their music
consists of a wide range of influences within the extreme sound, from death
to black metal and all these wrapped up in a satanic and imposing atmosphere.
"Liferazer" is an album that everyone should check out!
1.CONGRATULATIONS FOR “LIFERAZER”! IT’S AN
EXCELLENT ALBUM. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT? I ‘D LIKE TO KNOW THE CREATOR’S
POINT OF VIEW.
Hello Christine! Thank you! We are very satisfied
with Liferazer. We worked very hard to finish that album, almost two years
before we entered the recording studio. We recorded it in Los Angered studios
with Andy la Roque (King Diamond) and Terror (Runemagick, Deathwich) as
sound-engineers. The cooperation with these guys were great. We are also
very satisfied with the gruesome cover artwork by Necrolord.
2.WHICH DO YOU THINK ARE YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS
SO FAR?
Hard question, but one thing that is cool
I think, is to meet people (fans) around the world that really likes what
you are doing. It is nice to know that people buy your records and attend
to your live-performances.
3.2 OF THE SOULREAPER BAND MEMBERS PLAYED IN THE
NOTORIOUS DISSECTION BEFORE. SO, DO YOU THINK OF SOULREAPER AS THE NATURAL
DESCENDANT OF DISSECTION, BOTH IN ITS CONCEPT – PHILOSOPHY AND IN ITS MUSIC?
I think we are quite different from Dissection,
especially the music. We are a far more aggressive death metal band with
influences from both the Swedish and American death style. From my point
of view I would call Dissection's music black metal even though I have
not heard the new material. If we talk about philosophy and concept I would
say that Soulreaper are a satanic death metal band like Dissection was/are
but at a different level.
4.YOUR MUSIC IS LABELED AS SATANIC DEATH METAL.
WHERE IS THE SATANIC DESCRIPTION BASED ON? ON THE BLACK METAL MOOD, ON
THE LYRICS, ON YOUR IMAGE OR PERHAPS ON ALL OF THE ABOVE?
I think when you read our lyrics you will
soon find out that everything is based on strong misanthropic/satanic subjects.
Even the music and image are speaking for themselves that this must be
labeled as satanic death metal. But I don't think you can call it black
metal, the music is too different from that style.
5.IF A METALLER CAME TO YOU ASKING FOR DETAILS
OR A DESCRIPTION OF “LIFERAZER”, WHAT WOULD YOU TELL HIM?
I would tell him that it is a powerful and
dark death metal album with a really good sound. It contains very fast
parts and also some very slow and heavy parts. Buy it...You will not regret
it.
6.SO, IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN “LIFERAZER” IS A WORD
THAT DERIVES FROM LIFE AND ERAS(Z)ER RIGHT? WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT? WHO
ERASES LIVES?
It is the reaper of souls that erases lives.
Basically it wants to erase every form of life that has ever existed. It's
all in the lyrics.
7.WHICH ARE THE MAIN TOPICS YOU DEAL WITH LYRICALLY?
The lyrics are as mentioned before satanic
but I can't tell you that much because our vocalist Christoffer writes
all the lyrics himself and I can just imagine what's going on inside that
skull of his.
8.DUE TO A CHANGE OF THE LABEL’S NAME YOU WERE
CONFRONTED WITH SOME PROBLEMS, HENCE KARMAGEDDON MEDIA DECIDED TO RE –
RELEASE IT WITH A REMASTERED SOUND AND 3 BONUS TRACKS DO YOU THINK THIS
PROBLEM WORKED IN FAVOR OR AGAINST YOU?
Yes! There were some problems when Hammerheart
records changed into Karmageddon Media and Soulreaper somehow got in the
middle of it. I think that the guys at the office were quite busy at the
time when Lifeerazer, which was already delayed, was going to be released.
It occured to be a minor failure on the first print of the record. There
were pauses between some tracks that from the beginning were meant to be
connected to each other. Of course the label fixed that asap but they wanted
to make it up to us so therefore they wanted to remaster the album and
re-release it with some bonus material. The album will also be released
in USA september 2004.
9.HOW WERE THESE BONUS TRACKS SELECTED? I MEAN,
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COVER MORBID ANGEL? DID YOU CHANGE ANYTHING ON YOUR
SONGS FROM YOUR 7’’?
Actually we recorded the “Fall from grace”
cover in 2000 for the “Tyrants from the abyss” Morbid Angel tribute album.
It was Blackmoon that asked us if we would like to do a Morbid Angel cover
for his upcoming tribute album. We thought it was a great idea because
we have always been great fans of that band and it was an opportunity for
us to hail them. The other two tracks are the demo versions from the 7”,
“Son of the dead” and “Devils speech”.
10.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR TOURING? WHAT SHOULD
THE FANS EXPECT FROM A SOULREAPER LIVE SHOW?
Sorry there are no tours planned at the moment.
But Soulreaper have always been a real killer act live.
11.ANY NEWS FROM THE DISSECTION CAMP? IS THERE
A CHANCE OR A THOUGHT TO RELEASE A NEW ALBUM?
As far as I know Dissection will release their
new album very soon but none of the Soulreaper members have anything to
do with Dissection any more.
12.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT
BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
If it were an emotion it would most definitely
be hate. If it were a painting I think that the cover for Lifeerazer are
quite perfect for what our music stands for.
13.IF YOU COULD INVITE FAMOUS MUSICIANS TO PLAY
ON YOUR ALBUM, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
I dont think that we would invite famous musicians
to play on a Soulreaper album even if the chance was given to us. Why should
we do that? I think it's perfect as it is.
14.WHICH WORDS DO YOU THINK DESCRIBE “LIFERAZER”
THE BEST WAY AND WHICH PHRASE CAN SUM UP PROPERLY THE WHOLE BAND HISTORY?
I think that the phrase for that would be
“hard work”. We have always worked very hard to achieve our goals and it
has taken a lot of time. Both for Written in blood and Lifeerazer.
