SYMPHONY OF
DESTRUCTION
-
So, one day I
received a package from a band called Symphony Of Destruction. I didn't
knwo them and thus I didn't knwo what I shuld expect from them, so I suppose
you can imagine my excitement when I realized that I had the chance to
listen to something extremely interesting...well actually after all this
time I still do listen to them. Here is what the main man behind the band,
Dimitris Kouniados, told us...
1.I WOULD LIKE TO START THIS INTERVIEW
BY GIVING US SOME INFO ABOUT THE BAND'S HISTORY AND BY PRESENTING THE CURRENT
LINE UP TO THE READERS.
-
Before creating "Symphony Of Destruction",
I was playing the guitar in a ...power metal band. The band's name was
"Oversight" and the musical style was clean power metal, but I wasn't so
happy with that group, after some bad rows we had. I left the band in April
2002...
2.HOW DID YOU CHOOSE THIS BAND NAME?
DID YOU TAKE IT FROM MEGADETH'S SONG? DOES IT HAVE A SPECIAL MEANING FOR
YOU? TO BE HONEST WHEN I HEARD IT I THOUGHT I WAS DEALING WITH A BAY AREA
THRASH METAL BAND. DON'T YOU THINK THAT YOUR MONIKER CAN LEAD PEOPLE TO
WRONG CONCLUSIONS?
-
I always loved Megadeth and dave Mustaine.
My first thought was...to give the band a name from a Megadeth's song and
I decided on "Symphony Of Destruction". If someone thinks that we are playing
thrash metal, I am here to say that we don't. We are a heavy metal band,
not a thrash group...
3.YOUR MUSICAL STYLE IS A COMBINATION
OF N.W.O.B.H.M. AND HARD ROCK. DO YOU AGREE? CAN YOU TELL ME WHICH BANDS
DO YOU CCONSIDER AS BIG INFLUENCES THAT HELPED YOU CREATE YOUR OWN SOUND?
-
Yes, I believe that we have a hard
rock style in our music, but at the same time it's much heavier than hard
rock. It's more like N.W.O.B.H.M. and not so hard rock. When I write music
I don't think of other bands, so if I tell you that we are fans of Megadeth
probably you will not believe me, but Megadeth is a big influence for Symphony
Of Destruction!
4.IT'S VERY DIFFICULT THING TO PLAY
HEAVY METAL HERE IN GREECE. I'D LIKE TO KNWO WHICH YOUR TARGETS ARE AS
A BAND. DO YOU DO THIS FOR FUN OR DO YOU WANT TO DEVELOP THINGS ON MORE
SERIOUS AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS?
-
The second...as a band we have some
targets and we want to develop things on more serious and professional
standards. we are not doing this just for fun.
5.WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LYRICS?
WHICH THINGS INSPIRE YOU TO WRITE MUSIC? YOU HAVE 3 SONGS IN THIS DEMO.
CAN YOU TELL US WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT?
-
I write everything my friend in Symphony
Of Destruction, except for the solos. Alright,
-
FREEDOM: It talks about war and violence
and how war can destroy everything in pieces.
-
PAINLESS CRY: When someone hurts you
and you have loved him a lot, your love turns into hate and you try to
make him suffer.
-
LONELY AND TIRED: Well, actually, it's
a heavy metal love song. It talks about a man who is in love with a woman,
but that woman doesn't want him. He tells to her...Hey! If you need me
I'll be there for you...
6.THE SOUND OF YOUR DEMO IS QUITE GOOD.
WHERE HAVE YOU RECORDED IT? HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU AND WHO PRODUCED IT?
DID YOU USE THE HELP OF ANOTHER PERSON OR DID YOU DO EVERYTHING BY YOURSELF?
-
George Vasilliou did the production
and I made the recordings. We did it by ourselves.
7.THE BAND IS CONSISTED OF 2 MEMBERS
ONLY. WHY IS THAT? IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO FIND IN YOUR AREA MUSICIANS THAT
LIKE YOUR MUSICAL STYLE OR IS THIS BAND JUST A PROJECT BETWEEN YOU 2? WHY
DID YOU USE A DRUM MACHINE AND NOT A REAL DRUMMER?
-
In Lavrio it's very difficult to find
someone good and the most improtant thing for us is to find someone good.
Not just anybody, there are many musicians, but we need the best.
8.IS "NO LOVE TILL DEATH" YOUR FIRST
DEMO AS A BAND? WHICH EXPERIENCES HAVE YOU EARNED BY CREATING THIS DEMO?
IF YUO HAVE PREVIOUS RELEASES TELL ME THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES
BETWEEN THEM.
-
Yes, the demo "No Love Till Death"
is our first demo as a band and I believe that we have earned a lot of
things by creating this demo, more experience I think.
9.HAVE YOU SENT THE DEMO TO OTHER ZINES
AND LABELS? HOW DID THEY RECEIVE YOUR RELEASE? GENERALLY, WAS THE FEEDBACK
YOU GOT GOOD OR BAD? HOW DID THE METALLERS REACT TO YOUR MUSIC?
-
Yes, I have, but it's too early for
conclusions and I don't know what will happen. Not yet.
10.IS THERE A CHANCE TO DO A LIVE SHOW
WITH SESSION MUSICIANS? DO YOU WANT TO PLAY LIVE OR AREN'T YOU ITNERESTED
IN SOMETHING LIKE THAT?
-
Yes, I would like very much to give
a live show, but as I told you before it's too early for this. We have
a big problem with the band's line up.
11.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE THAT
IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR MUSIC TO ATTRACT HIS INTEREST? WHICH ELEMENTS
IN YOUR SONGS DO YOU THINK CAN DRAW THE ATTENTION?
-
If you like heavy metal you will love
Symphony Of Destruction. We have a great music that you must hear. it's
too good to be true!
12.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT
WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
-
If it were an emotion it would be "love"
and if it were a painting it would be "death". No Love Till Death!
13.IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO MEET THE
CREATURE THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ASK HIM?
14.YOU ARE GRANTED ONE WISH. WHAT WOULD
YOU DO WITH IT?
-
I don't know...to be a rock star I
suppose...
15.IF YOU COULD TRAVEL BACK IN TIME,
WHICH HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY?
-
In the '80s because I would like to
see what England was doing with the N.W.O.B.H.M.
16.WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW
TO HAVE?
17.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK
YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
