Unholy Archangel

Iapetos of UNHOLY ARCHANGEL is a well known personality in the extreme underground scene, here in Greece. Recently with his band has released a very good MLP under the name "The Wrath Of Kosmosistis" and this was a good chance for me to make to him few questions and learn some things more about this ineteresting artist. So if you want to learn more about the ancient greek religion and how is conected with their music, then you have to read this interview without second thoughts. 

1. FIRST OF ALL TELL US THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS IN THE UNHOLY ARCHANGEL HISTORY AND INTRODUCE THE CURRENT LINE UP.
  • The most important moments is the releasing of our demos, split tape, 7" ep, split LP and the last MLP "The Wrath Of Kosmosistis". Also great moment was the one live show we did together with INVERACITY and SICKNESS here in Athens in 23/4/2000. Also is the entering in the band of the bassist XENOFON and the drummer HYPERION in the beginning of '99. The current line -up is IAPETOS 666 vocals, AGISILAOS guitars, XENOFON bass and HYPERION drums. 
2. IF I ASKED YOU TO INTRODUCE THE ALBUM YOURSELVES TO THE READERS, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT? ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FINAL RESULT? IF YOU COULD CHANGE SOMETHING NOW WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
  • Maybe you talk for the MLP "The Wrath Of Kosmosistis"! I'm very satisfied with the result. I like it very much both musically and lyrically. Also the guy from Fudgeworthy made a great work with art cover and the vinyl.
3. NAME SOME OF THE BAND'S INFLUENCES AND SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED ALBUMS. WHICH ARE THE MUSICIANS THAT HELPED YOU REALIZE THAT THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO IN YOUR LIVES? WHO GAVE YOU YOUR MUSICAL VISION?
  • I don't have some person who helps me in my musical visions. I have been influenced by bands like : BLASPHEMY, ARCHGOAT, NAKED WHIPPER, SARCOFAGO, BEHERIT, BLACK PROPHECIES, ABHORER, IMPIETY, MYSTIFIER, MORTUARY DRAPE, GOATPENIS, MAYHEM(old), BELPHEGOR etc. My most favorite album is "Fallen Angel Of Doom". Also the MLP of ARCHGOAT, "I.N.R.I." of SARCOFAGO, "Into The Drape" of MORTUARY DRAPE, "Painstreaks" of NAKED WHIPPER, "The Oath Of Black Blood" of BEHERIT, "Horrified" of REPULSION, "Obsessed By Cruelty" of SODOM etc...
4. WHERE ARE YOUR LYRICS REFERRING TO? HOW IMPORTANT ARE THEY FOR YOU? WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE LYRICS AND WHAT CAN TAKE THE INSPIRATION AWAY FROM YOU?
  • The lyrics are more important that the music of course. The music only helps me to tell my beliefs. My inspiration comes from the ancient history of HELLAS and that I want to spread in the fans, especially to Hellines(=Greeks). 
5. LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ARTWORK A BIT... WHERE WAS THIS ANCIENT DRAWING TAKEN FROM? IS IT AN ANCIENT PLATE OR SOMETHING? WITH WHAT CRITERIA HAVE YOU SELECTED IT?
  • Yes, it's a motive from an ancient plate. Shows the God Poseidon ready to hit the Giant Polivoti and Gaia to beg Poseidon for the giant. The Giants are sons of Gaia. It's a part from War Of Gods against the giants (gigantomaxia in Greek language). It's perfect for the MLP cause shows the bestiality of Poseidon. With this release we honoured the Almighty god of seas and earth. By the way it is wrong believe that Poseidon is only master of the sea. He is the god of Earth too. "Kosmosistis" mean that he shake the kosmos (= the world in Greek). Also he has another name "Sisicthon". He shakes the "Gaia","Cthona"(also another name for earth). He shakes "Cthona" and "Kosmos"!!! Different words!!! I hope you understand. 
6. THE WHOLE PACKAGE IS VERY APPEALING... I MEAN A LIMITED EDITION 10'' ORANGE MARBLE VINYL OF 666 HAND NUMBERED COPIES, IS A COLLECTOR'S ITEM AND THE PRICE IS LOW... WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO DO THAT AND WHOSE IDEA WAS IT?
  • The idea for the MLP was Charlie's Infection of FUDGEWORTH. I accepted it of course cause this is the real underground I think.
7. WHY DO YOU THINK METAL KEEPS INVOLVING SO MUCH THE OCCULT, RELIGION AND PAGANISM? IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN YOU ARE PAGAN... SO WHAT IS PAGANISM TO YOU?
  • Not only the "metal" but "Gothic" and othe styles of music have influences from occult, paganism, Satanism etc. Metalheads are not pathetic people and they seek for more things than those that tell us in television. I'm not a pagan. I'm a dodecatheistis (= the person that believes in the gods of Olypus). Pagan, means the elves, the little devils of nature. The "Pagana" ( elves, trolls etc) in Hellenic language. So it is wrong to tell that I am a paganist. I don't obey elves or something like this, but I hail my gods!!! If sometime I tell that I am a pagnist, I tell it cause no one knows about the real meaning of this world.
8.BESIDES UNHOLY ARCHANGEL YOU ALSO HAVE ALONG WITH LORD NOSFERIUS A PROJECT BAND CALLED BEHELAL. WHAT DOES BEHELAL MEAN AND HOW DID YOU SELECT IT?
  • It's not a project of mine. I know well Lord Nosferius and he helps me a lot. Great thanx brother!!! I released this demo under Unholy distro. It's a great demo and I really I am happy that Ii Released it.
9. WILL BEHELAL BE A PROJECT BAND ONLY OR DO YOU ALSO HAVE PLANS TO PERFORM LIVE? WHICH BAND IS YOUR PRIORITY AT THE MINUTE, BEHELAL OR UNHOLY ARCHANGEL AND WHY?
  • I have a project band named CHAOS BAPHOMET, along with a guy from EMPIRE OF THE MOON. We have ready the demo and we will release it soon. Ny the way I help only in CHAOS BAPHOMET. UNHOLY ARCHANGEL it's the only band of mine and I work totally for it. 
10. DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? WHAT SHOULD THE METALLERS EXPECT FROM AN UNHOLY ARCHANGEL LIVE SHOW? 
  • No I don't have any plans for a live show. But when we make it again brutalheads must be prepared for tons of nails, chains, bullets and for a war noise devastation.
11. IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
  • Wrath and Destruction!!! A picture from a battle I think it's perfect. Especially from Thermopiles or Salamis!!!
12. WHICH IS, ACCORDING TO YOU, THE BEST AND WHICH THE WORST ELEMENT IN YOUR MUSIC? WHICH IS YOUR TRADEMARK?
  • I don't see it like that. We play what we love and this is the best for us.
13. LET'S SUPPOSE THAT WE LIVE IN A WORLD WITHOUT MUSIC. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN SUCH A CASE?
  • Very hard questions!!! A world without music it's impossible. Music exist everywhere in nature. Anyway as a ritorical question, I could say that life without music would be very misery. 
14. WHICH WORDS DO YOU THINK COULD BEST DESCRIBE "THE WRATH OF KOSMOSISTIS" AND YOUR MUSIC IN GENERAL?
  • "Supreme Hellenic War Destruction"!!!
15. IF WE ARE ALL JUST A WORD IN THE GREAT BOOK OF CREATION, CAN YOU SAY WHICH WORD COULD DESCRIBE YOU BETTER? CAN YOU ALSO IMAGINE WHAT KIND OF AUTHOR WOULD BE THE CREATOR OF THIS BOOK AND WHY?
  • The history of man in the book of Creation is a total nothing. We see the history from the man's point of view and it's logical of course. But in the book of Creation we are just nothing. No words needed to describe nothing. 
16. YOU ALSO PARTICIPATE IN KAWIR. WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THEM? DO THEY HAVE PLANS TO RELEASE A NEW ALBUM OR NOT?
  • I was member of KAWIR 31/2 years ago. So I don't know what happens now in KAWIR. By the way the last work of KAWIR it's not good like the old one.
