Winterhorde
Winterhorde is like an
oasis in a hot and sunny desert. They come from Israel, a really hot country,
however, their sound, their image and their whole philosophy is based on
winter and cold. A nice contradiction I think and wait to listen to their
music, which is simply superb! For now make sure to read this interview
I did with Seth and Celestial and then get in touch with them and order
their demo CD!
1. HELLO AND CONGRATULATIONS FOR "IN TRADITIONS
OF WINTER" WHICH IS A VERY GOOD ALBUM. MY QUESTION IS WHY DID YOU CHOOSE
TO RELEASE A MINI-CD AND NOT A FULL - LENGTH ALBUM? DO YOU HAVE ANY MORE
SONGS READY EXCEPT FOR THE ONES THAT YOU HAVE INCLUDED HERE?
Seth: Hi Nick and thank you. Our strategy
was to release a Demo disc which contains 4 full songs to present a fact
of our existence and to make a first promotion of Winterhorde. Yes, we
have more songs, some of them you’ll be able to hear in the forthcoming
album.
2. IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN YOU ARE FROM ISRAEL, WHICH
IS A HOT PLACE, BUT YOUR LYRICS AND MUSIC HAS A "WINTER" FEELING. HOW CAN
YOU EXPLAIN THIS CONTROVERSY? :)
Seth: Well, it’s a frequently asked question
and the answer it simple: the most of the band members came from Russia,
from the place of winter and our hearts always will keep frost even in
a hot country. As you can see in the demo the atmosphere of cold is inside
of us, so there is nothing in common with the outside.
3. I THINK THAT IT'S GOOD TO GIVE US A FEW INFO
ON THE STORY OF THE BAND SO FAR AND PRESENT THE CURRENT LINE UP. WHICH
IS YOUR MOST IMPORTANT MOMENT TILL NOW?
Celestial: I think the most important
moment for us right now is what we are still rockin' and playing metal.
Today is very difficult to find your own way among the millions of metal
bands, but we don’t give up. We did a lot of successful shows with some
foreign bans like Dark Funeral, Melechesh, Ancient and many more. Now we
are going to record our debut album.
4. SINCE YOU HAVE SENT ME ONLY THE BOOKLET OF
YOUR RELEASE AND I DON'T HAVE THE SONG TITLES. SO GIVE ME THE TRACK TITLES
AND IN A FEW WORDS DESCRIBE WHICH IS THE MAIN THEME BEHIND EACH SONG...
Celestial: The track titles are:
1. Mother’s blood
2. The Earth is an Altar
3. Ravens on Lucifer's throne
4. Winterhorde
The main theme behind this demo is the opposition
to the greatest world's disease - religions and the ways to fight against
them. Each track represents some important steps in the understanding of
people's belief and the lack of its meaning.
5.AS A BAND I SEE THAT YOU USE NICKNAMES. WHY
DO YOU DO THAT? IS IT SOMETHING THAT SUITS TO BLACK METAL BANDS OR DOES
IT HAVE A DEEPER MEANING?
Seth: Because we don’t want to write whole
pieces of name and surname, we use the concrete names of everyone in the
band, to be closer to our personality.
Celestial: I can't really describe our music
as pure black metal, because we use a lot of different musical styles to
show our feelings. And the nicknames are used to make some distance between
our real life and the art we're in.
6. IN MY REVIEW I WROTE THAT YOU HAVE SOME COMMON
ELEMENTS WITH IMMORTAL AND ROTTING CHRIST. DO YOU AGREE? WHICH OTHER BANDS
HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE? NAME 5 OF YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE METAL ALBUMS.
Seth: You know I can’t criticize myself because
I write the stuff and of course I’m trying to create something unique,
avoiding looking alike other bands. So if you see something similar – maybe,
there is nothing strange if you found something common in some bands.
Celestial: Iron Maiden “Seventh Son of a Seventh
Son”, EverEve : “Stormbirds”, Messiah “Rotten Perish”, Cradle of Filth
“Dusk …and her Embrace”, Amorphis “Elegy”.
Seth: Emperor – IX Equilibrium/Prometheus,
Nokturnal Mortum – Lunar Poetry/Goat Horns, Dimmu Borgir – Enthrone Darkness
Triumphant.
7. IN THE PAST THE BLACK METAL MOVEMENT HAS BEEN
CONNECTED TO EXTREME PHENOMENONS LIKE RACISM AND VIOLENCE. WHAT DO YOU
THINK ABOUT IT? DO YOU THINK THAT THE BLACK METAL SCENE HAS A BIG PART
OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR GIVING TO THE METAL MUSIC A BAD NAME?
Seth: No, I don’t agree with that, some people
mention that aggression is bad. There are a lot of people who connect Black
Metal to racism and violence, maybe they play Black Metal and like racism
and violence or this is just a show, but to connect these two different
things… I think that’s stupid.
8. AS PERSONS HAVE YOU EVER BEEN INVOLVED WITH
BLACK MAGIC/OCCULT OR DO YOU LIKE TO WRITE LYRICS ABOUT THE NATURE? DID
YOU HAVE ANY SUPERNATURAL EXPERIENCE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH
US?
Celestial: No, we’re not, but we’d like to.
9. DID YOU HAVE ANY PROPOSALS FROM LABELS
TO SIGN? WHAT DO YOU WANT A LABEL TO OFFER YOU IN ORDER TO CONVINCE YOU
TO SIGN A DEAL WITH THEM?
Seth: Unfortunately nothing concrete yet.
We need to wait for the album; there will be a lot to talk about. Of course
we want any possible good deal with a label.
10.IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO INVITE IN A FUTURE
RELEASE A FAMOUS ARTIST WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
Celestial: I’d like to invite Mr.Ihsahn from
Peccatum, Vortex from Dimmu Borgir and Garm from Ulver.
11. HAVE YOU DONE ANY LIVE SHOWS? WHICH LIVE SHOW
OF YOURS DO YOU REMEMBER THE MOST AND WHY?
Celestial: Of course we have done live shows.
The live shows are the most important thing for the band's existence. The
show I remember the most is the last Christmas’ show with local bands.
The sound was amazing and the crowd too. I had a lot of fun to throw a
“snowball” and drink champagne on stage.
12. HOW DID THE PRESS AND FANS RECEIVE YOUR CD?
WHICH WAS THE MOST ENCOURAGING REVIEW THAT YOU HAVE READ AND WHICH ONE
MADE YOU FEEL SAD?
Seth: As I see the fans and the press make
brilliant feedbacks, you can see that even yourself in the internet, almost
all the reviews as I've seen were very impressive, but no review made me
sad ?
