OF MAGGOTS
Womb Of Maggots is a
new band from Greece that managed to create something new and not ordinary
for the Greek, at least, standards. Taking the chance of their very good
debut album "Life Odium" we had a short conversation with Lefteris and
Christos. Let's see what they have to tell us...
1.WHICH ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT
MOMENTS OF THE BAND'S HISTORY? WHICH IS THE CURRENT LINE UP?
We think the most important moments
of the band was the release of our first cd "Life Odium" and the chance
to support ROTTING CHRIST (Patra-Kalamata).
2.WHY HAVE YOU NAMED THE BAND THIS
WAY? DOESN'T IT SOUND A LITTLE BIT GORE? BEFORE LISTENING TO YOUR MUSIC
AND JUST BY YOUR MONICKER I HAD THE SENSE THAT YOU WERE A DEATH/GRIND BAND.
DO YOU THINK THAT THE BAND NAME SHOULD ALSO BE AN INDICATOR OF THE BAND'S
MUSIC OR NOT?
It's not Necessary to find a name
which represents exactly the type of music you play...Yes,it is a bit gore.But
we wanted to express that from something dead something new and live is
born.
3.NAME SOME OF THE BAND'S INFLUENCES
AND SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED ALBUMS. CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSICAL STYLE?
Bands that influence us are Opeth,
Rammstein, Dream Theater, Cannibal Corpse and many more..If we had to say
our best albums there wouldn't be space for the rest interview...!!
4.TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ALBUM.
WHERE WAS IT RECORDED, WHEN, HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU. WHO WAS THE PRODUCER?
ARE YOU STILL SATISFIED WITH IT OR IS THERE ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO CHANGE?
The album was recorded in Fragile
Sound Studios.From 14-04-02 to 03-11-02.The producer was Vagelis Gialamas.
We were unexperienced and made some mistakes that we clearly can see now...The
same mistakes won't be done next time.
5.WHAT ARE YOUR LYRICS TALKING ABOUT?
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM? WHAT INSPIRES YOU AND WHAT CAN TAKE AWAY THE
INSPIRATION FROM YOU?
Responsible for our lyrics is Christos
with some help from Lefteris. Our lyrics refer to several things.... splatter,death,
even love (from a different point of view)...most of them are pessimistic...We
are inspired from different daily good or bad things and nothing can take
our inspiration because even bad things can inspire us.
6.YOU ARE A YOUNG BAND. YOU EXIST A
YEAR NOW. HOWEVER, YOU MANAGED TO FIND A CONTRACT QUICKLY AND WITH ONLY
ONE DEMO CD. WHY?
We were lucky to find a contract
so quickly because the record company believed in us and wanted to take
the best we had...Of course the very good reviews of our demo-cd helped...
7.WHICH DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST AND
WHICH IS THE WORST PART OF YOUR MUSIC? WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU NEED FURTHER
IMPROVEMENT?
We can't find what's the best part
of our music but sure the bad is that our songs differ a lot from each
other... Improvement...hm...We didn't use the advantage of a singer like
Mineiro...In our next cd he will sound much better.
8.YOU'VE DONE SONE LIVE SHOWS WITH
ROTTING CHRIST, WHICH IS A BIG BAND NOT ONLY FOR GREECE BUT WORLDWIDE.
TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS AND WHAT YOU GAINED FROM THIS EPXERIENCE. HOW DID
YOU FEEL THE FIRST TIME YOU GOT ON STAGE?
Of course supporting a band like
ROTTING CHRIST is a big thing... We are friends with the band and they
helped us a lot before that first live,giving us courage and we did great..!Experience
was the first thing we gained from that concerts...u know.. playing in
front of a big crowd.We were anxious but after a while we were giving
the best of us...(when ROTTING CHRIST were making soundcheck we were ready
to pick up our things and escape!!!!!)LOL!
9.ARE YOU AFRAID THAT SOME PEOPLE WILL
CONCENTRATE ON THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE A FEMALE DRUMMER AND WON'T FOCUS
ON YOUR MUSIC?
No..There is respect to Katerina
in every live we have done so far but a female always gets too much attention.
The bad is that she gets easier bad critics than a male doing exactly the
same things.
10.HOW DID YOU SELECT TO COVER KREATOR'S
"PHOBIA"?
Covering Kreators' Phobia was an
idea which came from Katerina and we all found it interesting.
11.CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO ME THE COVER
ARTWORK? WHAT'S THE CONNECTION AMONG THE LYRICS, THE ROSE AND THE SKULL?
Hm....The connection between our
lyrics and the cover artwork is something like this: the black rose represents
the pessimistic lyrics and the skull the death-splatter ones.
12.YOU'VE DONE A VIDEO CLIP FOR THE
SONG "THE BULLET". HOW WAS THE EXPERIENCE? CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE VIDEO CLIP
FOR US?
We were headbanging in a five meter
studio,with hot clothes,and outdoor temperature 40c(with that lights something
like 55c(!!!!!)). The studio got a fire and we almost got burned!It was
a great experience!
13.ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK
YOU RECEIVE? HOW HAVE THE FANS AND PRESS ACCEPTED YOUR DEBUT CD?
Until now the reviews are very
good so we suppose fans have accepted our first cd the way it deserves
to...
14.IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO MEET THE
CREATURE THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ASK HIM?
We would ask that creature which
are it's favourite bands!!!!!!!

The emotion of love-death and ressurection
in one...
16.IF YOU HAD THE ABILITY TO CHANGE
SOMETHING IN THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
The narrow minded people and giving
help to cities of Africa where we see that babies born with deseases and
don't have the chance to live a happy life.
17.WHICH IS MAN'S BIGGEST TEMPTATION?
Oh!Money... most of deaths are
because of something like not having enough...
