WYTCHKRAFT 

When my friend SHINGE from GORGON send me the demo of this band, somehow I knew what did they play. Old fashioned N.W.O.B.H.M with lot of attitude and guts. I couldn't leave the chance and don't make an interview with DESTRUCTATOR, the guitar player of this band. So, now it's up to you to read this interview and buy the new releases of this very good underground band.   

1.FIRST OF ALL, POINT OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF THE BAND'S HISTORY AND INTRODUCE YOURSELVES TO THE READERS.
  • DESTRUCTATOR – Greetings from the Brazilian lands NICK!!! There are many important moments for us, for example, the day we released our DT, the day we recorded the song for the split 7”EP, our first and only gig we played ... but I think the most important was the day I received our split 7”EP from the label... I almost couldn´t believe that we were releasing our first vinyl!!! It was so special for me, because I´m a vinyl maniac, so, you can imagine that it was very important!!!
  • Let´s introduce ourselves... MARRETATOR (the vocalist??? hahaha) is the new member, he joined us early this year, his is 45 years old or older (I can´t remember) and drink since 6 years old, listens from obscure 70´ies Rock´n´Roll to Black Metal, also plays in FOLKLORD, NECRONOMICON BEAST and KAUSTIC and runs KLOZED CIRCLE PRODUKTIONZ.
  • DESGRAÇATOR (the guy that try to play drums, hehe) listens from Heavy to Black Metal, 56 years old, also plays in EVIL MAYHEM.
  • CARBURATOR (the drummer that plays guitar, huh) also listens from Heavy to Black Metal, 15 years old or less, also plays drums in LAMENT, and is a sexual machine because he has 6 sons!!!
  • I´m DESTRUCTATOR (the necro guitar-hero), 25 years old, I like specially old Heavy Metal and Black Metal, I run LIVE RECORDINGS ATTACK!!! tape and vinyl label, I play guitar/vocal in LAMENT and worship SABBAT and vinyl!!!
2.SOME LINE UP CHANGES OCCURED LATELY IN WYTCHKRAFT. WHAT MADE YOUR SINGER LEAVE AND HOW DIFFICULT WAS IT FOR YOU TO REPLACE HIM? YOU ARE THE ONE DOING THE VOCALS ON THE DEMO. WHY DON'T YOU CONTINUE DOING SO? DON'T YOU LIKE SINGING?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – No, I didn´t record the vocals on the DT, but the old vocalist. After the old vocalist left the band, I started to sing on the rehearsals, but I couldn´t sing and play the guitar well at the same time in some parts of the songs, even if I liked to sing alot, but I realized that we should find someone to sing instead. So, as I´ve mentioned above, MARRETATOR joined us as vocalist early 2003, unfortunately, because now we have to suffer with his savage drinking habits... 
3.YOU HAVE A NEW SPLIT 7'' OUT WITH BLOOD THRISTY
DEMONS FROM METAL COVEN RECORDS. TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT IT. ARE THE SONGS CONTAINED IN IT NEW? GIVE US SOME INFO ABOUT THE RECORDING SESSIONS, WHERE WAS IT RECORDED AND WHO HELPED YOU PRODUCE IT? HOW DO YOU THINK SPLIT RELEASES HELP THE BANDS?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – The split 7”EP with the Italian Horror Metal band BLOOD THIRSTY DEMONS has one intro taken from a movie and one song that was not released in the DT. It was recorded in a studio near my home, and the owner of the studio helped us to produce it, even though we had total control over it.
  • Well, we just accepted to do split releases with bands we know and like their music, so, we accepted the offer from METAL COVEN to do this split, and I think that it can help us to spread our music to the Maniacs that like BLOOD THISRTY DEMONS. I also like split releases, they have a cult aura for me!!! 
4.YOU ARE HEART AND SOUL DEDICATED TO THE NDERGROUND METAL SCENE AND YOU OBVIOUSLY ADORE VINYLS. WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ACCORDING TO YOU WITH VINYLS THAT CD'S DON'T HAVE AND HOW'S THE FEELING FOR A PERSON LIKE YOU TO HOLD HIS OWN VINYL IN HANDS? SHARE YOUR FEELINGS WITH US...
  • DESTRUCTATOR – Yeah, I fucking love vinyls!!! Vinyls have a sound better than CD´s, it fits perfectly to the Metal music, the artwork in vinyl´s sleeve is simple awsome, much better than the small CD´s booklet!!! I really like to put my vinyls on my turntable, I don´t simple collect them to keep them safe without listeng to them!!! I don´t care about digitalized sound of the CD´s, CD´s are just a product of the capitalistic world, due its cheaper and easier way to be produced, cheaper postage, cheaper booklet. “They” say that it is the evolution of the vinyl, just to get more profit in the end, because if the production/pressing/postage are cheaper, of course the profit is higher, because the price of the CD is the same, or even higher, than LP´s use/used to be. DESTROY CDs!!! VINYL RULES!!!  
  • YEAH!!! As I told you before, when I received the split 7”EP I went crazy!!! A vinyl maniac that has a band and is able to hold his own vinyl in his hands is fantastic!!! WWWOOOWWW!!! This is very important for me!!! I don´t care if the release will sell or not, if people will like it or not, I just care for the feeling of getting it in my hands and put it on my tunrtable to listen to it!!! Besides, I like the 7”EP format a lot, like split releases, I think 7”EP also has a cult aura!!!   
5.WHY DO YOU USE NICKNAMES? DO YOU THINK NICKNAMES
HELP YOU CREATE AN AURA OF MYSTERY AROUND THE BAND? HOW DID YOU SELECT YOUR OWN?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – Yeah, I think it is a way to create an aura of mystery too, but as well to get everything connect, I mean music/image/lyrics... I like when a band has the music/lyrics/image connected and can create something special, it is not only about the music, nor the lyrics, nor the image... I think nicknames are something like a tradition in the Metal bands with occult/satanic topics, and we want to keep this tradition alive. Our nicknames have a kind of strange meaning that only if you know Portuguese you can understand them well, because they are words created by ourselves that is half-Portuguese and half-Engish. Mine is something like the mix of the word destruction in Portuguese and English as I mentioned above, but to give you an easier example, DESGRAÇATOR is the mix of the word DESGRAÇA in Portuguese (that means misfortune, disaster in English) with the ending English ATOR... the translate would be something near to “the one that brings misfortune/disaster”, but in DESGRAÇATOR´s case, it was chosen because he simple brings misfortune for his drum!!! I feel sorry for his drum kit!!! Well, as I told you, it is very difficult to explain, specially because I have “evil english”, hehehehe....   
6.YOUR MUSIC HAS A VARIETY OF SOUNDS MIXED. YOU HAVE
NWOBHM ELEMENTS, SOME U.S. HEAVY METAL TOUCHES AND A STRONG 80S VIBE. FURTHERMORE YOUR LYRICS PLACE YOU IN THE "SATANIC" CONTENT BANDS. SO, COULD WE NAME YOUR MUSIC AS SATANIC HEAVY METAL? WHICH BANDS HELPED AND INFLUENCED YOU TO CREATE THIS SOUND? IS THE TITLE "WE ARE SATAN'S WARRIORS" A TRIBUTE TO VENOM PERHAPS?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – Yeah, I think you can label us a Satanic Heavy Metal band, though Black Metal would not be wrong. I think our main influences are the bands from the ´80´ies, specially MERCYFUL FATE, EVIL, MANILLA ROAD, SORTILÉGE, SABBAT (Japan), POKOLGÉP as well newer bands like METALUCIFER and GORGON. Also VENOM can be named as influence, but not as strong as the ones mentioned before. No, “We Are Satan´s Warriors” isn´t a tribute to VENOM, it is just the name of our song that comes out naturally, I didn´t think in any band in special when I had written this lyric.
7.WHY DO YOU THINK METAL KEEPS INVOLVING SO MUCH THE OCCULT, HISTORY AND MYSTICISM? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF BANDS WITH WHITE AND CHRISTIAN THEMATOLOGY? DO YOU BELIEVE THEY HAVE PLACE IN THE METAL SCENE? 
  • DESTRUCTATOR – I think mainly because those topics were introduced in the very beginning of the Metal scene because they were against the “normal” moral that ruled (rule) our world. So, as the music itself was a kind of rebellion against society, so the lyrics also would have to be something that would “shock” normal people. Of course some bands only used/use those topics as image and were/are not into that, but some bands were/are into it deeply. I have respect for the bands that are deeply into their lyrics/image. 
  • Concerning white metal (???) bands... I hope they all DIIIIIEEEEE!!!! I think their lyrics have nothing to do with Metal, they should play another kind of music instead!!! Metal music is only for free warriors that fight for their dreams without following any rules!!! Christian people are only sheeps that follow their god (???) and the holy (???) bible blindly. FUCK THEM!!! 
8.YOU ARE SATAN'S WARRIORS FIGHTING FOR WHAT? FOR HIS WILL OR AGAINST THE USUAL, ORDINARY, EVERYDAY LIFE, TRYING TO "AWAKE" PEOPLE AND SHOW THEM ANOTHER DIMENSION IN LIFE?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – The lyrics have a “fictional” concept, let´s say, they are a mix of fictional stories and my own ideas, so, I want to express my antichristian feelings, and also my knowledge about the occult, where I write about some of my personal ideology, and I use Satan because he is the enemy number one of christ (as christians themselves claim), so, I can attack christianity (and even other religions) in some way. It doesn´t mean that I am a satanist (the only religion I follow is the Sabbatical Kult, haha) that worship a horned God of Evil that lives in Hell, but of course I share some views of Satanism, but not the regular Satanism created by the christians. The Satanic concept is just an interesting topic that I thought in use on my lyrics and it fits perfectly with Heavy Metal, it is also a way to pay a homage to the old Black Metal bands that used to have such lyrics, and that people of the “metallic media” used/use to call “childish”, I think because they were/are just christians/jews that are afraid of Satan. WYTCHKRAFT´s lyrics are a way to show that we, in a way or another, fight against Christianity, even though it is more of a personal fight, as we don´t want to influence anybody with the lyrics, nor show them another dimension of life, as you stated in the question. Everyone is free to think/live the way they want!!! We don´t need to follow any kind of (dis)organized religion.       
9.THE COVER FOR "WE ARE SATAN'S WARRIORS" HAS A STRONG 80S FEELING. WHERE DID YOU TAKE THIS PICTURE FROM? I DON'T THINK I HAVE TO ASK YOU WHAT IT REPRESENTS CAUSE IT'S MORE THAN OBVIOUS...
  • DESTRUCTATOR – It was taken from a book about witchcraft, as it was used without any permission, I think I don´t need to name the book and the autor of the image, even though soemone would have to make a Necromancer Ritual to awake the autor, ha!!! The picture was chosen because it fits very well with the lyrics and I also agree with you about the 80´ies feeling!!! WE ARE METAL WARRIORS!!!
10.GENERALLY THIS WHOLE RELEASE HAS A STRONG 80'S VIBE AND FEELING, THE MUSIC, THE SOUND, THE COVER
ARTWORK...EVERYTHING! BY THE WAY, WAS IT YOUR AIM TO HAVE THIS SOUND OR WAS IT A LACK OF TIME AND MONEY? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF POLISHED PRODUCTIONS? ARE YOU SATISFIED BYT HE FEEDBACK YOU GOT THIS FAR?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – Well, we didn´t planned anything about the sound, we just recorded the music live in our old rehearsal room with our own rehearsal equipament, nothing special was used for this recording. Luckly, we had a good sound quality (in my opinion, of course) to release it as our debut DT, and we received a good feedback so far from many people, that, somewhat surprised us alot!!! We didn´t expect that such DT would have great comments, but it shows that the real maniacs are interested in the music we play, not in the polished productions that the metalic media or the “normal” metalheads are interested in.
  • I am not interested in polished productions, I think the most important thing is the music, if the music is good, it doens´t matter if you recorded it in an expansive studio with a famous producer and was released by some big label. My fave LP´s were not recorded in famous studios with digital sound, on the contrary, the good old sound of analogic studios and pressed on vinyl are the best!!! 
11.WHICH ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? WILL YOU DO
ANY LIVE SHOWS OR TOUR WITH OTHER BANDS? DO YOU HAVE PLANS FOR SOME NEW RECORDINGS?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – We have played only one gig so far (that was really great, by the way!!!), but we want to play in the near future, and a tour is impossible for us, because all the members have their own jobs and other bands as well.
  • Our next releases are the live tape of our first gig to be released this year, as well the split 7”EP with the Japanese NWOBHM masters GORGON, to be released in dec/2003 or early 2004.
12.IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO DO A VIDEO CLIP THE WAY
YOU WANTED IT TO BE, WHICH SONG OF YOURS WOULD YOU
CHOOSE AND HOW DO YOU IMAGINE IT TO BE? 
  • DESTRUCTATOR – To be honest with you, I´ve never thought about that, and I even don´t like video clips that can be viewed for anyone in the regular TV, if we would do any video clip, of course it was going to be sold in a VHS tape. I would like to do our song “Satanic Witches” and it would be like a movie about a Satanic ritual with witches, candles, caldron, etc, in a deep dark forest, without the members playing any instruments, only the images of the ritual with the song in the background like a soundtrack.
13.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE THAT IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR MUSIC TO INTRIGUE HIS INTEREST? WHICH IS YOUR MOST RECOGNIZABLE ELEMENT?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – I don´t know... I think if you like old Heavy Metal riffing with Satanic lyrics, I think you should at least listen to our music once, but don´t expect super produced music!!! Our most recognizable element would be the diversity, all our songs have slow/mid tempo/speed parts, I also think that one element would be the fact that we usualy don´t have chorus in our music, we are not the kind of band that have 3 or 4 riffs in one song and repeat them all over the songs. Also our songs are usually 5 or 6 (or even more) minutes with many different riffs. 
14.IF YOU WERE A FLY, WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE AND
WHY?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – I would be in Japan every day SABBAT would play a gig!!! That would be fuckng great!!! I wouldn´t miss any SABBAT gig!!! 
15.DO YOU THINK GOD GOT SO FRIGHTENED OF WHAT HE
CREATED THAT HE MOVED TO HEAVEN TO KEEP DISTANCE FROM HIS CREATIONS? 
  • DESTRUCTATOR – God is Dead!!! Actually, he never existed!!! 
16.IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO TRAVEL BACK IN TIME, WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO AND WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – Fuck, there are many places I would like to go and many things I would like to see... but to choose only one thing, I would like to go back to the first days of SABBAT and witnessed their first gigs!!! Hahahahaha!!! I would also sign a deal with them to release their first vinyl LP!!! Other interesting things would be to go back to the glorious times of the Roman Emprie or the Incan Empire, the times where they used to be a pagan war machine!!!
17.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – I think our music would be like a triunphant feeling of the dark hordes. A painting would be something like the feasting of the witches, like the cover of our 7”EP. Hails HEADLIGHT!!!
18.WHICH IS THE WILDEST, CRAZIEST THING YOU'D LIKE TO
BE ASKED OR HAVE BEEN ASKED THIS FAR?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – I was asked days ago in an interview: “The Goats are the best friends of mine, they are real and bad, had you ever some experiences with goats, when not, when you would go on a lonely island only with a goat, what would you do with this goat ???? Don’t say eating !!!” Hahaha... very strange question, isn´t it???
19.LET'S SUPPOSE THAT ONE DAY ELECTRICITY CEASES TO
EXIST. WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN TO HEAVY METAL? WOULD IT BE FORGOTTEN OR TRANSFORMED?
  • DESTRUCTATOR – Humm... I don´t know, Heavy Metal without electric guitars would be non sense... but I think it would not be forgotten, I think it would be the same melodies, beating and riffing, but played with acoustic guitar and bass guitar, and the vocalists would have to be very good to sing without microphones!!!

  • DESTRUCTATOR – Thank you very much NICK for this good interview!!! Fortunately I´ve received good interviews lately, and this one is very good too!!! Thank you for your support and keep the good work alive!!! Remember the real Metal scene is made by Underground bands and zines, we don´t need big capitalistic labels/bands/magazines!!! Anyone interested in WYTCHKRAFT (and also to know the real age of the other members!!!) that have the Metal Heart beating loud and proud, feel free to get in touch!!!
