This
is the third time I've run Buttonwillow, but the first time
I have run the course counterclockwise. CC is a lot of fun,
although a bit harder than clockwise. A few turns end up being
decreasing radius, and it seems a bit harder on brakes CC
as well. I had a few really good sessions, during my secon
run, I had an instructor ride with me. After two laps, he
takes over and immediately is driving all out throught the
course. We are coming off the "teladega" sweeper
at well over 90mph and approach the "Bus Stop",
a right hand turn that I was braking for. he really doesn't
brake at all and just lifts, then turns the car in and barrells
through the turn. We slide out to the ouside and the rear
end goes over the rumble strip and we slide off the track
sideways with a HUGE cloud of dirt dumping into the car. We
manage to get back on the track and continue on the course,
but he spins it again going through the hairpin ("offramp").
At least I got it all on video! The car is fine, and on the
third session, I drive myself and adjust my line a bit. Had
a lot of fun keeping up with a trio of integra type Rs that
were on R tires.
Also
watched some Pro-7 racing. There were about 10-12 spec RX-7s
and a few other cars that were with NASA doing some exciting
wheel to wheel racing between our hot lapping groups.
