The most frequently visited nibbling dig by our group is a place called Shell Select. It is basically a convenience store where you can find anything you want. Because we often go back and forth from Manila to Batangas, we stop by the store almost every trip to grab and eat something. Its strategic location (along the highway) makes it easy for travelers to come by. Not to mention it's perfectly situated within a gas station area (as all the other Select stores are).
Otherwise known as Rolling Wheels, Shell Select serves as a haven for wandering people who trek in and out of the City. Businessmen, students, blue-collar workers, and tourists can be found inside eating or buying something they need. Built with transparent glass windows, one can readily see the different alluring colors of the things the store is selling. A sense of appeal is cast upon a person�s fascinating curiosity to discover and try what Shell Select has in store for a starving individual.
Upon gaining entry, one can see the various foodstuffs being sold. It is very hard to miss the milk, chocolate, and fruit shakes at the front row. A few steps more, one will be able to see all the brands of chips, both local and imported. Pastries and bread are on the right side. Refreshments such as soft drinks, mineral water, fruit juices, energy drinks, and the like are kept inside a huge refrigerator. Shell Select has liquors (I hope they don't sell �em to minors) from beer (Colt 45 is my personal favorite) to tequila. Near the counter, a small freezer is well placed. It accommodates all the ice cream and other frozen delights. Well, it doesn't end there. Aside from things that will surely satisfy your stomach, it also retails magazines, greeting cards, and numerous household items.
How about our best liked stuff? We usually go there for bacon-hotdog sandwich, siopao, and nachos. Not really that much choice for really filling and heavy edibles. We also consume a lot of mineral water and energy drinks. Lipovitan and Red Bull pack up our energy and help us stay awake... driving.
However, for price-conscious people, this place may not be the one for them. Nevertheless, Shell Select adds more value on the things you're paying for with the very clean environment it constantly maintains and the comforting ambiance it effectively creates. It also has a bunch of friendly and attentive salespeople ready to assist you. (March 30, 1997)
