You might have been religiously attending your church, following its teachings (without really checking if it is God�s teaching or just your leader�s, you might be even disallowed to search by yourself), offering sacrifices (both to the altar and even with your life), and guess what?
You might be even giving bountiful financial contribution to your church�s needs. Pause � Think� Reflect� Is my Church the True Church? You might have been taught that your church is the church that comes from the line of John the Baptist, and consequently it is the true church. How about the one founded by Mr S, or Mr V, (no, not Mr Entertainment, or maybe he's entertaining), or the other Mr V, or Bro. Pete (alien!), etc.. You might even claim that your church comes from the line of St Peter, then it makes your Church the real one.
(By the way, putting Mat 16:18 in our language will be �And I tell you that you are Peter (Petros in the original language) a small rock, and on this rock (Petra in the original language), the big rock, a bedrock, I will build my Church�'. Is the big rock mentioned here Peter? (I hope not), or is it JESUS? Read 1 Cor 10:4, Deut 32:3-4, Psa 28:1, Psa 62:1-2, 6-7, and there will be one clear conclusion -- the Rock is Christ Jesus.)
On Jesus himself Christ built His Church, by freeing them from death, from sin. The Church is going to be with Him eternally, He had come to redeem His Church. His sacrifice (not yours) is the ultimate atonement for the sins of this world. And guess what? You could be a part of His Church. How? Your membership to the true Church comes by your faith in Christ alone (please don�t even think that you can contribute to complete what Jesus did for you on the cross). It is because of you that He gave His life that your sins may be forgiven and join Him in eternity.
Why don�t you tell Jesus right now that you need Him because you admit you are a sinner, thank Him for dying on the cross for you and it is sufficient for your salvation, tell Him that you want Him in your life. If you could do this with all the sincerity of your heart, then you know you now belong to the True Church.
