Vicky Reyes is a determined woman

Vicky Reyes
TANAUAN (Batangas, Philippines).
Vicky Reyes, serving her first term as a Provincial Board member for the 3rd District of Batangas, is a determined woman.

She wants to prove that a woman in politics could be a force for unity to serve and protect the interest of the people. (In the May 2001 elections, Bokala Reyes won as representative of the Third District of Batangas to the House of Representatives of the Philippines.)

Women politicians should not be seen as competition against men, she says.

Victoria Hernandez Reyes is an intelligent, soft-spoken simple woman with visible beauty. She was born on Sep. 10 in Tanauan, Batangas. She and her husband, Rod Reyes, have two children. Her family is her top priority, and she makes it a point to find quality time with them.

She was a private person until she was persuaded by townmates to run for the seat of her brother, Nicomedes Hernandez, who ran for congressman against Macario Laurel in the May 11, 1998 elections.

In the Provincial Board, she is chairman of the committee on family and home and the committee on agriculture; vice-chairman of the  committee on transportation, communications, and franchise; and member of the committee on cooperatives and the committee on human resources.

Bokala Reyes says there is a need to increase the productivity rate of every farmer to meet the food requirements of every home.

She wants to form a women's federation, to help women of Batangas to become more productive.

Being active in different organizations has made her close to the people. Her policy is to do things with fairness and work for the good of the people.

For her, achievements cannot be measured with any material things, popularity or titles. It is peace of mind that is most important thing to achieve.  That -- and what she calls a "good and peaceful life." (1101988)
