The subfamily is found in the Australian region. All the genera are restricted to Australia & Tasmania. Some of the important references that should be consulted with regard to this subfamily are Michener (1965), Exley (1970s) for taxonomy;  Cardale (1993), Houston (1969), Exley (1972, 1974, 1975, 1996 etc.) for nests, and Mcginley (1981) for larval characters.
