An Annotated

Catalogue of the

Bee Species of the

Indian Region

 Subfamily Hylaeinae Viereck

[Family Colletidae]

The subfamily is found worldwide and is most abundant and diversified in the Australian region. A single rare species of genus Calloprosopis is found on the mountains of central Africa otherwise all the genera except Hylaeus are restricted to Australia. Some of the important references should be consulted with regard to this subfamily are Michener (1965), Houston (1975), Cardale (1993), a series by Hirashima (1980s) and McGinley (1981) for larval descriptions. Our specified region is largely inhabitted by Hylaeus (Prosopis).
