Family Stenotritidae Cockerell

 

 

The family comprises of two Australian genera known with a total of 21 species only and, from the remaining world it is yet to be discovered. Although strnotritids have often been placed in the Colletidae. McGinley (1980) emphasized their distinctness at the family level and the conclusion was supported in a way by Alexander & Michener (1995). Larva has been characterized by Houston (1975) and McGinley is not distinguishable at the family level from that of certain Colletidae.  Significant publications on nesting and  floral biology are Houston (1975, 1983, 1984 & 1987) and Houston & Thorp (1984).
