Family Stenotritidae Cockerell
The family comprises of two Australian genera
known with a total of 21 species only and, from the remaining world it is yet to be
discovered. Although strnotritids have often been placed in the Colletidae.
McGinley (1980) emphasized their distinctness at the family level and the
conclusion was supported in a way by Alexander & Michener (1995). Larva has been
characterized by Houston (1975) and McGinley is not distinguishable at the
family level from that of certain Colletidae. Significant publications on
nesting and floral biology are Houston (1975, 1983, 1984 & 1987) and
Houston & Thorp (1984).
