Paper Bag Puppet - Reindeer
 Preschool Craft

Have you ever wondered where Santa's Reindeer got their names? In 1823, Clement Clarke Moore penned the poem A Visit From Saint Nicholas more commonly known as The Night Before Christmas and included the names of the reindeer.
Now Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! On Donder and Blitzen!
In 1939, Robert L. May penned the story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and introduced us to "the most famous reindeer of all".

Have your little crafters create their own Reindeer Paper Bag Puppet!

Tools:
scissors, glue stick, printer

Stuff used:
brown paper bag
Card stock paper
Reindeer Template (see below)

Instructions:

  1. Print out Reindeer Template on card stock paper.

  2. If your crafter is able, have him cut out the eyes, nose, antlers and arms. Assists younger crafters who are unable to cut safely, by cutting out the pieces for them.

  3. Have your crafters glue on eyes, nose, antlers and arms.

  4. Optional:
    • Glue on small jingle bells around "neck".
    • To make Rudolph, cut our a red nose or use a 1/2" red pompom.

Note: The Reindeer Template image files should be printed 8" x 10" to fit properly onto a paper bag. If you do not have a graphics program that can print it the proper size, I suggest taking your printout to a copy shop and have them enlarge it. To save the file to disk, right click on the template, then select "Save Picture As..." or "Save Image As..."
