THE JEAN HARLOW TOUR - AN UPDATE

Note: Don Davidson of Kansas City, Missouri made several correction to Bob Siler's Jean Harlow Tour. Thanks for all the contribution!

1908 - 1926
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI

3344 OLIVE STREET - 1908-1915
Mont and Jean Carpenter's first home was a modest gray house, owned by Mama Jean's father, Skip Harlow. Baby Jean was born here on March 3, 1911 at 7:40 PM. The Carpenter's lived upstairs while Mont had his dentist office downstairs. This building was demolished in the late 1930s for highway alterations. (I've driven by the home on the northeast corner of 34th and Olive probably 200 times until it was torn down in 1999).

4409 GILLHAM ROAD - 1915
The Carpenter's moved to a new home that sat on park sized property. They had a nurse, nanny, two house maids, one house man, a live - in liveried chauffeur, ducks, lambs, kittens, puppies and pigs.

BONNER SPRINGS, MISSOURI (The city of Bonner Springs is in Kansas, not Missouri.)

"RED GABLES"
The Harlow Family Summer Estate, overlooked the Kaw River.
Young Jean spent her summers at the 25 room country mansion.

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
WEST POINT AVENUE (You mean Westport Rd).
MISS BARSTOW'S SCHOOL
An elite prep school for upper class daughters of the area. Young Jean attended from 1916 - 1923. The school was founded in 1884 and is still operating today. (Although it has moved several times. I was actually in one of their locations last week)

15 WEST POINT ROAD (Should be Westport Rd.)
Mama and Baby Jean moved here.

NORTE DAME DE SION
Baby Jean was enrolled into this strict convent school for one semester.

15 WEST POINT ROAD (Again, should be Westport Rd.)
MISS BIGELOW'S SCHOOL (You probably mean Miss Barstow's School)
Baby Jean was enrolled here because it was closer to her home.
