WEEK 4: Chapter 13: Worlds Entangled 1600-1750

Between 1600 and 1750 world trade both grew and became more integrated as a wider variety of goods were exchanged all over the globe. One of the most important items was silver, mined in the Americas which gave Europeans a commodity that they could trade for Asian products. This had diverse effects on many regions and influenced the relations of each of the trading partners. In the Americas, Europeans consolidated their hold over more and more land and yet the new colonial powers now entered the picture. As sugar and other agricultural products became more important the seeming necessity of importing African slaves also grew. This growing slave trade shaped political developments in sub-Saharan Africa. All the wealth from the Americas strengthened the Europeans.
