HITLER IN BROWN-SHIRT UNIFORM
Hitler was a rousing speaker, stirring the emotions of the German people to extreme levels. His later speeches in large stadiums were famous for their strength and belligerence. While he was still gaining support for the Nazi Party in the late 1920s and early 1930s, he also met with small groups of people as numerous public functions. On these occasions he took advantage of the frustrations that many German people felt over their economic and political circumstances. Here, Hitler speaks at the memorial of Horst Wessel, a "martyr" to the early Nazi cause, January 22, 1933.
Notice the uniform Hitler wears. At all times, Hitler stressed the corporate nature of German society -- which resembled a military hierarchy. This, in fact, is one of the main principles of Fascism: the individual is subordinate to the State. This message, argued and enforced by the Nazis, eventually led to the complete militarization of the German State and to the horrors of World War II.
