WEEK 10: Crossroads of Culture: The Impact of the Mongols

We have seen that culture may travel from place to place by means of trade and commerce. And yet cultural artifacts can be transmitted in many ways. One such way is through war and conquest. This may be seen through the spread of the Mongols across Central Asia to the borders of Eastern Europe. The dominance of the Mongols over the older trade routes such as the Silk Road allowed for what is sometimes called the 'Pax Mongolica'.
