No Destination

I shut my door.  I don’t bother turning on the light or changing my clothes. I take off my shirt and shoes and drop them in the middle of the floor. I climb onto my bed and hit something. Frightened, I jump off and scramble around in the dark for my lamp. Blinking in the bright light, I see Yukito.

“What are you doing here?” I ask him.

“I didn’t feel like going home yet,” was his reply.

I don’t say anything, but switch off my lamp and stare out the open window. There’s not a great view, but houses are better than nothing is. “What are you really doing here?” I ask him. I count all the houses I can see while I wait for his reply.  1, 2, 3,4,5,6,7…no, I counted that one already. 1,2,3,4-

“Because I’m sorry,” Yukito said, interrupting my counting.

“You’re sorry,” I repeat slowly and sit down next to him. His yellow eyes appear to be shining, even in the little light there is, coming in through the window. “You came over to apologize?”

“Yes...and…well, I was thinking. I decided…I decided that…that I still love you.” He stared into my deep brown eyes. Sakura once called them deep, deep as an ocean. She said you could get lost in them if you stared at them too much. “And…I want you back. I want a second chance.”

I’m tempted to say no, to hurt him as much as he hurt me. But then I’d be practically lost in my pain. “Yes…yes I’ll give you a second chance,” I say, a catch him in a hug. It feels wonderful to have his arms around my body. I start crying. “Don’t ever leave me again,” I sob. Yukito smoothes my hair. “I won’t,” he promises, and kisses me. We lay down, my head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

Yukito whispers to me, “Now boarding the Train of Life. Destination: Forever. Passengers: Touya Kinomoto and Yukito Tsukishiro. Please keep your arms and legs inside the ride at all times.

I smiled. Now I did have a destination. Forever.
