1998 Canadian Drug Free Naitonal Championships
Taber, Alberta
The 1998 Canadian Drug Free Nationals were held in Taber, Alberta on March 28. 42
lifters competed in this contest, coming from all parts of Candada. There were 50
Canadian Records and 10 World Records broken at this contest.
All national Champions will be given the opportunity to lift at the World Championships
in Atlanta, Georga on Oct. 9-11.
The following is a recap of the contest results:
Teen Women- Age 16-17: Amber Sparks set new Canadian Records (CR) in all
three lifts and equalled the World Record (WR) in the bench press.
Open Women- Patsy Noble set new CR in all three lifts. Pasty will be a force to be
reckoned with at the World Championships this year.
Teen Men- Age 18-19: Nicholas Pettigrew set new CR in the squat and deadlift and
broke the WR in the the bench. Also, Pat Montague posted a new WR in the bench
press.
Age 16-17: Elijiah Shagin, Curtis Gibson and Brett Montague set new CR's in all three
lifts.
Open Men: Rene Robert set new CR in the squat and deadlift. Randy Sparks set
new CR in the bench and deadlift while Dean Patrow set new CR records in the squat
and bench press.
Masters Men: Age 45-49 Mike Marcinkowski set new CR in the squat, bench and
deadlift.
Age 40-44: 90kg Rene Roberts set new CR in the squat and deadlift.
In the 100kg
class Brian Montague had a very strong meet. He set new CR in all three events. Also
Randy Sparks set new CR in the squat and deadlift while he also set a New WR in the
total.
In the 145+ class Dean Patrow set new CR in the squat, bench and deadlift.
Dean also set a new WR in the bench press.
Age 50-54 100 kg John Braun set new CR in all three lifts. John keeps getting stronger
and stronger with each contest.
In the 125kg class Jerry O'Conner set CR in the bench
and deadlift.
Age 70-74 125kg. John Bortnak new CR in the squat, bench and deadlift.
I hope to see you all at the World's this year. The Canadian Team should be a very
strong force with year.
The 1999 Canadian Championships will be held in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
