Charlie's Blog #98: The way things should be

The way things should be

There is no "way things should be".
Only the way they are.

This is the way the world is,
and the world is what it is.

Right now people are dying
Right now people are falling in love
Right now people are being subjected to unspeakable torture
Right now people are making love so passionate they cannot see where one begins and the other ends

This is the way the world is,
and the world is what it is.

This is not to say that we should not try to right the wrongs
Just that to rail against the reality in favor of an imagined ideal
is an exercise in futility.

This is the way the world is,
and the world is what it is.

It's just a difference in perspective.
When you work to make things better,
are you striving to return things to some imagined ideal?
The "way things should be"?

Change your perspective.
Accept that things are the way they are, and that this is what normal is.
When you work to make things better,
see the improvement you have made
do not loose sight of it in the ocean of evils that remain unchecked.

See the uncountable problems in the world
as an abundance of opportunities
to improve it from its normal state.

This is the way the world is,
and the world is what it is.

Striving for an imagined ideal, you will never get there.
Focusing on the problem at hand, real progress can be made.

Railing against realities that are beyond your influence
is as futile as railing against the wind and the rain.
Scream at the wind that it should not blow.
Shake your fist at the rain that it should not fall.

There is no "way things should be".
Only the way they are.

This is the way the world is,
and the world is what it is.
