Today That pretty much brings us up to date. It's said those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat its mistakes. Comparing the situation in the 1950's to the one we find ourselves into today, there are similarities. Back in in the '50s, Ft. Worth decided to show Texas and the world that Ft. Worth was every bit as good as Dallas when they constructed Greater Southwest International Airport.. Build it and they will come, Ft. Worth thought. They came, but not in numbers great enough to support an airport that was overbuilt. Today, DFW has a beautiful expensive international terminal that is half leased and one nearly empty domestic terminal. Until we can get those gates filled, then DFW is overbuilt. Back then, when Ft. Worth tried to get Dallas to buy a half share of their airport becasuse they needed Dallas' strong travel market to make it viable, Dallas declared that the offer amounted to an effort by Ft. Worth to bail itself out of financial problems. Today, DFW is trying to get Southwest Airlines to move to DFW because they need Dallas' strong airline and it's passenger base to help subsidize all the expensive improvemnts the've made primarily to benefit American Airlines. The Incentive Plan that they repeatedly ask Southwest to come take advantge is an effort by DFW Airport to bail itself out of its own financial problems. So how will the story end? Will The Boys get their way again, or will the people win this time? That depends on Congress and you! Let Congress know how you feel today and check current news for further updates.
