Requirements
STATE ASSESSMENTS
Each quarter, students are given a state required math assessment. The assessment contains a written, oral, and hands-on performance. The assessments are scored by NC State Rubrics and Checklists. The scores are marked as levels on the quarterly report card. Students are required to be at a level 3 or above in the area of math. The Performance Code is listed below:

Level 4- Exceeds Expectations
Level 3- Consistently Meets Expectations
Level 2- Inconsistently Meets Expectations
Level 1- Limited Performance
EVERYDAY MATH
Everyday Math is the current math curriculum adopted by the Mooreseville Graded School District. This is the second year it is being used. The series includes:

Home Links- nightly homework sheets to practice/ review math skills taught
*
Unit Tests-  tests previously taught skills
*
Explorations- math centers for students to explore new skills/ tools
*
Student Math Journals- workbooks to provide students practice with math skills
*
Math Boxes- located in student journals and used to review previously taught math skills

All the Everyday Math activities and tests are recorded on an Everyday Math Report Card and kept in your child's Math Portfolio. Portfolios are kept in class and can be looked at throughout the year at any time.
WEEK BY WEEK ESSENTIALS
This is an additional teaching strategy developed to match NC State Standards in the area of mathmematic. It includes:

Student Games- designed for pairs or small groups of students to
reinforce concepts

Powerful Potpourri-  worksheets for practice or assessment
*
Keeping Skills Sharp- worksheets for practice and assessment
*
Week By Week Essentials- ideas/ activities for weekly lessons

This is primarily used to reinforce the math skills taught. Some activities are recorded as an assessment and kept in your child's Math Portfolio.
QUICKIE QUIZZES
Quickie quizzes are given daily and are used to increase your child's knowledge of addition and subtraction facts. Students move to the next quiz level after a quiz has been mastered twice. The quizzes are not marked on the report card but are used as a source of assessment.
