The Truth

The Truth

Man the sinner, Christ the Savior: these are the critical subjects taken up by the Gospel. The Gospel proclaims the substitutionary death of the Lord Jesus Christ. It tells sinners who embrace Him by faith that "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures" [1Cor. 15:3]. According to the divinely inspired words the prophet Isaiah addressed to God's elect but sinful people, "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him [Jesus] the iniquity of us all" [Isa. 53:6]. Sin is any violation of the Ten Commandments in word, thought or deed. We sin in practice because we are sinners by nature. The result is physical and eternal death since God has decreed that "the wages of sin is death" [Rom. 6:23]. Thankfully, "the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" [Rom. 6:23]. The Gospel also proclaims the resurrection of Christ, "He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures" [1 Cor. 15:4]. He was the sinless Lamb of God who bore the sins of others. After He had satisfied the justice of God the Father by dying a substitutionary death in the place of hell-deserving sinners, Christ rose from the dead and continues to live eternally to give the free gift of eternal life to all who come to Him by way of faith and repentance. Come to Christ, now. He will not cast you away!
