New Words in Merriam Webster Dictionary
'Google' as a verb

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Need tips on how to groom a
unibrow or soul patch? Just Google it. Or get a
mouse potato to do it for you. If you're still lost,
grab the latest edition of Merriam-Webster's
Collegiate Dictionary for a definition of those and
about 100 other words that have made their way into
its pages.
But be warned: you might
come across a drama queen (a
person given to often
excessively emotional
performances or reactions),
an empty suit (an
ineffectual executive), or a
himbo (an attractive but
vacuous man — think "male
bimbo".)
"We try to have a mix
that addresses the wide
range of people's
information needs when
adding new words," said John
Morse, president of the
Springfield-based dictionary
publisher. "It could be a
technical term or some
light-hearted slang that
sends people to a
dictionary."
To make it into the
dictionary, a word has to be
more than a flash-in-the-pan
fad. It needs staying power.

'Google' finds its way into dictionary
Friday July 7, 06:58 PM
WASHINGTON (AFP) - "I googled
you," "google me": The word "google," which has become
synonymous with searching the Internet since the advent of
the popular search engine of the same name, has just found
its way into a US dictionary.
Due out this fall, the 2006
edition of the venerable Merriam-Webster Dictionary features
the verb along with several other new words.
But associate editor Peter
Sokolowski said the high-tech addition was born out of
society setting a new language trend.
"It's not a decision; it's the
acknowledgement of its use in the newspapers, the
literature, the media. It's very commonly found in print and
is used with no explanation," Sokolowski told AFP.

After I wrote about the explanation of
the word "straight" to prevent misunderstanding, in my
previous letter
with the subject "Misunderstanding About the Word 'Straight' ",
in the evening at News Ticker of Fox and Friends on the next day there
was the news about Merriam Webster dictionary adding new words,
including "google", "mouse potato" and "unibrow".
"google": to use the Google search
engine to obtain information about (as a person) on the World Wide Web.
"mouse potato",
slang
: a person who spends a great deal of time using a computer.
"unibrow": a single continuous
brow resulting from the growing together of eyebrows.

After my pervious letter about Mr. Warren
Buffett contribution to your foundation, came the news about his giving
a chance for a lunch with the world's second-richest person that
went for $620,100 in an online charity auction on eBay Inc.,
topping last year's $351,100 record for the fundraiser. Now I think it
is an important numbers to prevent me from getting accusation of trying
to enter politics, because formerly he was known for supporting Arnold
Schwarzenegger during the gubernatorial campaign in 2004.
The number 600 in Indonesian is "enam ratus"
which could be interpreted as "end A.M. ratus", whereas "ratus" is like
Indonesian word "ratu" which could mean "queen" or also in certain area
in Indonesia has the meaning of "king". So "end A.M. ratus" has
the meaning of "end A.M. to become the king or leader in politics". It
is important to make sure that these letters has no political agenda.

It was an interesting moment
for me when read about ".....Jackie Chan is looking to
bequeath half of his fortune to charity, following in
the footsteps of Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, local
media reported on June 29, 2006."
