MEDICAL EQUIPMENT

Some fire departments have a long history of responding to medical emergencies, for most however this is a more recent occurrence which really gained ground in the 1970's. At the current time most fire departments in the United States respond to medical emergencies with personnel trained to the advanced first aid or basic life support level (Emergency Medical Technician) but many now also have trained Paramedics capable of providing Advanced life support, some even staff their own fire department ambulances.

Trauma bag

This is a bag containing an assortment of medical supplies.

Airway bag

This is a bag containing an oxygen tank, oxygen masks and other related equipment. 

First aid bag

This is a small medical kit used on vehicles that do not have a primary medical responsibility such as a Chief's or utility vehicle.

This is a special splint used for broken legs. It is usually carried in its case but is sometimes found without one.

This is a kit carrying immobilization supplies for spinal injuries.

Long back board

This is an example of a back board used for spinal injuries.

KED

This case contains an extrication device which resembles a vest, used to remove injured people from vehicles or other small spaces. 

Large Oxygen cylinder

This is a large oxygen tank. Many ambulances have oxygen plumbing installed. An oxygen tank like this is often mounted under the bench seat to supply the plumbing.
