    Cambodia    
Sihanouk breaks off diplomatic relations with the United States. He also allows North Vietnamese Communists, who are fighting the United States and the South Vietnamese, to set up bases on Cambodian soil.


    Laos    
The United States begins secret bombing of Laos. They target both the North Vietnamese forces along sections of the Ho Chi Minh Trail and the Communist Pathet Lao guerrillas in the northern part of the country. Pathet Lao activities decrease.

    Romania    
Nicolae Ceausescu is chosen as the first secretary of the central committee of the Romanian Communist Party.



    Vietnam    
The United States sends a full-scale movement of U.S. troops into South Vietnamese territory to prevent the South Vietnamese government from collapsing under attacks from the Viet Minh. The United States wants to retain its credibility with other nations that it will provide help to resist communist aggression or subversion.


    India/Pakistan    
With substantial military support from the United States, Pakistani troops cross the cease-fire line in Kashmir. India responds by invading Pakistan proper.


    India/Pakistan    
A UN cease-fire is agreed upon by both sides. By this time, both sides had suffered great loss in manpower and ammunition.
